You guys should do a part two too and show the discrimination side too. Most youtubers who live in Korea, have spoken the most about this. Refusal in clubs, only getting certain jobs, staring, people not sitting next to foreigners on trains. these make a hugge impact to foreigners in korea, probably a bigger impact than these issues which are quite minor inconviences in retrospect.

It’s because they don’t care. Smh. It’s the racism that keeps me from visiting the country. We already deal with it enough in the states. Sure don’t want to pay to travel and deal with the same mistreatment. And that sucks because I’d love to visit South Korea.

@@ry5604 I've been to Korea, you should go. I stayed in Seoul, I didn't face too much discrimination because of the area i was in. It was pretty open. I'm also not a person who goes to night clubs. So i didn't experience that. The only thing that really stood out is that when i was paying for something, it was like i couldn't read or i didn't know how to count money. So they always wanted to "help" me put the correct amount. Basically if you stay in Seoul and the surrounding areas, it shouldn't be too bad.

I'm thankful that her other manager is kind to her and treat her to dinner and take care of her. Why are foreigners not allowed in clubs 3 . Racism towards other Asians esp if you have darker skin tone & black people (anyone who isn't white) 4. Lots of foreign women have talked about men wanting to sleep with them to brag bout it 💀 5. Why would foreigners who were born n raised in korea with Korean citizenship still be considered an outsider (I can't understand this cause my family is scattered around with different citizenships n they've always been considered apart of their respective countries)

In Korean clubs, there is an entrance cut that cuts at the entrance even if it is the same nationality. Dress codes are often limited to far from clubs or age restrictions.There are cases where age restrictions and clothes that do not fit the club dress code are restricted.

The taxi driver would get pissed and start bitching. The first time that I attempted it with my girlfriend, I moved to the taxi too early, and the driver saw me, so he took off while my girlfriend had the door halfway open, but she hadn't started to get in yet. Both of them said that they were ashamed for their country because they never knew that foreigners were treated that way, and Im a white guy. If you are going to do an expose on the bad parts about living in Korea, at least hint at some of the worst things about living there, i mean i get that it is heavily censored but this is reaching Chinese censorship standards. A lot of foreigners come to channels like your's because they want a chance to experience the culture maybe even as a prelude to actually living there and so many things are being skipped over as if hidden cameras, rape issues and downright racism can compare to not feeling included due to clique culture. That video of a attempted rape and q man caught on camera trying to follow a woman inside her home, and the several incidents of hidden cameras being found in public bathrooms. (You know that's not normal, right?!) I've never had to worry about stuff like that in my life, being drugged or walking home in the middle of the night, getting into a strangers car or not locking down all your luggage when walking in public sure but having to check for hidden cameras was never something I've been told to do. Don't just glaze over things like that, people do read the news and foreigners who leaves Korea aren't going to stay quiet about it either, it really better to be upfront about it to keep everyone safe.

Things I strongly dislike about korea (personal opinion but I think a lot of people would agree): 1. obssession with appearance: plastic surgery, fatphobia, mean comments about you in your face 2. lgbtphobia: they're SO homophobic, I saw once a pride parade where there were some koreans trying to lure people in to say they shouldn't exist, and they always use such a condescending tone too 3. racism and colorism: people are not allowed to enter clubs or some places because of their skin colors, koreans with darker tones are discriminated in many ways, they use products to lighten their skin 4. the way there are SO MANY elderly people living through poverty and cleaning the streets because the government doesn't provide any kind of help for people for when they're old, there's no retirement public policy, and that goes to poor people also 5. the whole aegyo thing, people doing aegyo, as in people imitating children to appear cute, and many times is considered sexy, which I think is so fcked up, can't even begin to explain how fcked up that is 6. sex is such a taboo that they don't even discuss safe sex, teenage pregnancy, sexual diseases etc., and much less about good sex, where both parties are satisfied 7. they're hella misoginistic, korean woman are so submissive and servant, and they can't speak loud, they have to appear pure and weak and also neaty, they are paid less than men and respected less than men, but the worst is that they accept that, it's not even a discussed topic 8. bullying being such a stablished thing 9. the way koreans stare at foreigners and don't even try to hide it, nor help them when they need it, they're super xenophobic 10. korean men trying to sleep with foreigner women because they wanna tell their friends, so they use them, then treat them like shit right after 11. the pressure for being successful in life, you have to be the best at everything, if you're #2 you're already being criticised, so study till you kill yourself 12. the way the country as a whole hide its many bad sides and try to sell itself as a good, forward thinking country, with good economics, where everyone is happy when in fact it has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, because social pressure is so strong that the ones who doesn't fit cannot stand life itself, now multiply that for foreigners

Did you just equate two different things together? The Asian hate debate is predominantly an American and Canadian conversation piece because of what's going on domestically and for the most part Koreans have no idea or wouldn't be affected by it. If we're talking about racism in Korea, we need to unpack that. Are we talking about systemic racism or are we talking about ignorance? If we're talking about systemic racism, it's hard because S. Korea is not an immigrant destination. However, if we're talking about half Koreans that's a valid point of discussion because systemic racism does apply. If we're talking about ignorance, you probably haven't traveled much

That's the main issue boiled down--their fear of accepting multiculturalism. For Koreans, it's still Korea first. And I'm not saying other nationalities don't think that way (looking at a specific Western country here) but maybe they're just not really ready being thrusted into the forefront of international superstardom. Lol. It happened so quickly yet inevitably. Looking at how it was a decade or two ago, you could see it coming just not at this level.
@in00n
@in00n 5 ай бұрын
Korea has been ethnically and culturally homogenous for the thousands of years it's been around. Western countries, particularly those in the Americas that have only been around for a couple-hundred years and have always been multicultural, will find it easier to accept, because you've always had it. It's a lot to ask countries that have maintained such a balance for millennia to suddenly change in just a few decades. Korea will always be predominantly Korean, and it's not a bad thing. Westerners are more than welcome to come here, as long as they are coming here for the right reasons and put in the work to adhere to our culture and society. Too many Westerners come to Korea thinking it'll be just like what they see in kdramas, then get upset and only spend their time here complaining about how awful everything is and why we aren't like what ever Western country they come from and thinking we should change our ways to be completely like the West.

I will say this and this is my honest opinion on what I have noticed my whole life living on America. When you go aboard to other countries to visit I will take an example like most Asian countries as a foreigner you are treated like shit by most about 1 percent will be interested in you and would like to get to know you but that is a small percentage. And don't let you have darker skin whether it be because you were born black or if you tan because you are white. But when they come to America. They expect a red carpet to be rolled out for them all because they are Asian. I lie to you not. I went to school with a lot of Asians and for some reason they thought they should have been valedictorian of the school and Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc. Should have excepted them just for the mere fact that they were Asian. And most of their GPA's was barely passing. But to appease their parents they wanted it. They would even claim racism if they were rejected from these same universities. I just find it funny how this world works. People treat you like trash in their country but want the red carpet treatment when they come to yours. This whole world have lost their everlasting minds. Just think about it. A world where so much new creations new enhancements are taking place. A world where people know other ethnicities abide and we know that there are people who are different from us exist, yet we are still confused and have so much hate and anger in our hearts that we do stupid stuff instead of loving each other an appreciating the beauty God has made. No wonder mankind is on its way to destruction.

I start to feel like we are an aesthetic and a trend to them and the more i hear more horrible stories from foreigners ( particularly black) the move i want to not go. The hugest reason why people leave any country is because of job satisfaction. I am surprised nobody is talking about the absurdity of korean work culture. Always being pressured to do unpaid overtime, aka. slavery, when it's not necessary, but because of workplace pressure it's what you have to do, and only being able to leave once your boss leaves and if you leave before, you get scolded. Being unable to talk back to your boss if he's wrong because it's considered "rude". Forced company dinners even after a long day of work and overtime and you're looked down upon if you don't come. Just work, work, work 24/7 no time for fun, no work/life balance. Sometimes Koreans value work over even their own health and family. J It's extremely detrimental to anyone's mental health and because people have no personal time that's exactly why the birth rate is so low. Not to mention I heard office politics in Korea are a lot more toxic than in other countries.

This happens in every country, nobody likes to address racism in their own countries, mostly because most people aren't really racist. Here in Argentina we have this kind of racism against people from neighbour countries or asians, and sometimes it goes from just an insult to killing them for being foreigners, but if you ask most people in Argentina they will obviously not agree. There was a case of a Bolivian woman who was pregnant, she was pushed out of a train (trains here in those years didn't have closed doors) by an Argentinian man not before yelling some racist slurs to her, she died and he never faced any charges.

I have little experience - only 4 days in Seoul - but some of those observations chimed with me. It's certainly much more monocultural and conformist than London. OTOH Korea is a fantastic country whose creativity, industry and innovation have been a real phenomenon of the past 60 years. Hope to stay longer next time!

To be honest I fell like they never talked about Racism, colorism,and xenophobia which really makes me really disappointed because is the most obvious and notorious things when you talk about the experience of living in Korea as a foreigner and it gets worse if you are poc, like it is a big problem with korean society ( just as any other, but in this case is about korea) and most importantly the topic that I wanted to be recognized was how foreigner women are often targeted and have to go through very bad situations , and how they are seen as an easy target by korean men, because of this women’s situation of being in a complete different country. I have heard enough stories from foreign women living in korea how they had to go through bad situations often involving s3*ual harassment and other things. In the end they really covered pretty much things that are so simple or something more of a cultural shock that actually what has been talking about a lot recently in social media about these bad experiences in Korea and how after being again in a completely different country and society and sometimes alone plus this experiences I just talked about can be overwhelming and completely ruin your whole experience staying in this country, but yeah what I think should be talked in this video mostly was racism/ colorism, xenophobia etc. and how foreign women are seen through this stereotypical way of being “easy”( kind of with the thing that “we are open minded” idk how to explain it) and how they are often harassed. ( sorry for my bad english and also for the long comment)

Not surprised they ignored to most important things of why foreigners wouldn’t like Korea. Totally intentional bc most of those videos are about racism lol guess they did their best to edit that out and pretend it doesn’t exist.

I agree with the beauty standards thing. Being pretty/handsome seems to be valued over personality and talent in South Korea. Attractive people are definitely treated better and get more opportunities, no matter how talented or skilled they actually are/are not.

The way I see it, Korea I new to the international community. Yes they have been open for decades. But it is only recently that it's become more and more international. I do wish Koreans would be open to making new friends no matter the age. I think having friends of different age groups give you different perspective in life and generations
