It's very weird hearing heejae say that she cant wear a bikini bc she doesn't have abs. Generally people in the US just care if you're skinny or not, not how muscular you are and she's very skinny so here really no one would have an issue with it if she wore a bikini. In the korean viewpoint it's almost like being skinny isn't enough... you have to have abs and a specific bodyline. But pretty much everyone wears a bikini in the west even curvy people or plus size people. I really feel like they are coming for my muffin top here btw lol.

Same here in Hungary but i guess also in Europe in general. Based on what I've seen in these kind of videos, in Aisa they worry way too much about their appearance. It's really sad. My Japanese friends say that ruffles make their bust look bigger. I find the Asian swimsuits (from China, South Korea and Japan for example) pretty cute! I would like to wear the ones with ruffles, but even though I'm Asian like them, they would make my bust and butt look too big. That's the problem of being well endowned. You can't wear a lot of the cute clothes and swimsuits, especially in Asia where they're made for women with A or B cups. XD

I'd just like to say, that all bodies are beautiful bodies, and people should not feel the need to cover parts of themselves because that's not "pretty." All bodies are beautiful, and if clothing exists in your size it's for your body.

I've seen so many videos of koreans being so strict when it comes to what's 'good looking' / a beautiful body. I think it's pretty sad and puts so much pressure on people to become that ideal of being super slim. Last summer i decided to wear bikinis and only got compliments. For so long i thought only slim girls can wear them an hearing that a slim person says her body doesnt look good enough for wearing one makes me realise even more how stupid that thought was. I hope she'll learn that it doesnt matter what size u are! Just wear what u like :)

Concerning their culture, they have strict beauty standards which lead many young koreans to depression and anxiety. I think Koreans are less open-minded and are very strict. So they can appear to be fairly shallow.

i think the “only people with good bodies can wear this” is so upsetting cause the ideal body type in korea (and asia as a whole) is not just skinny but their goal is to be extremely underweight but with abs/muscle too.

Not really, they really like naturally very slim but curvy bodies. Many females in Asia don't like or want that much muscle but just to have a lean sexy and thin look, which is so hard to get and maintain. Espescially when you're not naturally skinny and have like bigger bones which can accentuate body parts to look even bigger like shoulder area. Which isn't very ladylike in asia. If you're very very slim then it's seen as pretty but if you aint skinny then we just look like fricking lego blocks mate and people dont think its attractive😂

All swimsuit/bikinis/swimwear can be worn by anyone no matter what body you have. You don't have to wear a certain type of swimwear just to "correct" or hide the your insecure body parts, what matters the most if you're happy and comfortable in it. Here in the U.S. everyone wears what they are comfortable in. For example, I am quite self-conscious and the first swimwear I bought was a bikini (with shorts as bottoms) even though I am petite & have a pear-shaped body. My encouraging friends contributed to it and it really does show how the people you're with influences your mindset & confidence.

Where I’m from (the Netherlands) a monokini used to mean wearing just the one bikini bottom, hence ‘’mono” instead of “bi”, so the women wearing a monokini would be topless at the beach. It’s cool to see how the design and perception of a monokini is different in other countries and other times.

There was a previous swimsuit video and I feel like what was talked about in that applies here. The girls said that Koreans don't actively try to swim when they go out to pools or beaches, they wear these swimsuits to look cute. Most people don't like getting tanned so they sit under their umbrellas and really just look nice. I don't think the functionality of it matters to them.

Sadly that’s how most east Asian men feel and think, (not just Koreans men). I think you can get fined in Japan for being overweight. But their moms are the ones that install this type of “standard” for them, because usually it’s the mom or sister that talks about women’s weight and appearance in front of their son or brother. I will say that this is more informative and interesting than looking at men's swimwear. We have a kind of monokini like what Michael Phelps apparently wears everywhere (according to the commercials), dry/wet suits, shorts, slightly longer shorts, slightly shorter shorts, speedos, and the banana hammock (because nothing says, "Hey ladies" louder than having a neon green suit creating a literal arrow head pointing to the junction.) Oh, and any other clothes if we're drunk and there happens to be a large amount of water near by.

I live in South Beach and no one cares if you have a bikini body honestly. But there are also sooooooo many different types of bathing suits that weren't mentioned, i.e. string, thong, trunk, Brazilian. I think one of the most popular styles in the US now are the high cut bottoms

...I' m a petite asian with thick and curvy body type ,I'm 4"11 with the weight of 45 kg yet by asian standard I am considered fat.When I go to outdoor water park or beaches I wear shorts and tops.Frankly speaking here in asia you dont have the right to wear bikinis if you dont have "that" beach body standard.Definitely agree that asian countries regard looks with high standard than west and europe.Here in asia... tall,skinny and paper white flawless skin are the prettiest.

I'm sorry but body shapes and societal pressure is the same everywhere. I lived in Korea for three years and I have met so many people who educated themselves and realize its toxicity. There are many body positivists from South Korea (I am happy to share some accounts if you want to). Also, the same argument: if it was culturally okay to beat your wife, would it make it okay for people who support aggression towards women? I know it sounds extreme but as a person who struggled psychologically with her body image, I now know this is emotional aggression for some people. And it is not okay. I do not think ignorance is an excuse for this case.

Because they might say they should cover up 😂 in corea being skinny (not normal, but hella skinny) is the beauty standard and it’s a big deal, at least until a couple of years ago

Hi, here in Italy all the girls (from 15 years old to 40) use to wear bikinis, we doesn't have perfect bodies and we are not so gym addicted, there are only people more/less skinny than others, but we love the curves of our bodies (men too!). Monokini or classical onepiece now is a trend but in the past it was only for old ladies and who needs to cover up.

I'm in the west and I would rather wear Asian swimsuits- (not the ones that cover like every inch of your body, i mean for example like the one in the thumbnail) western swimsuits make me insecure, and also my parents don't like me showing much skin and I don't like showing skin either so it works out

There is no such thing as a "western" style of swimsuit. You have the freedom to choose the style you prefer at any given time. Some of these videos are truly misleading.
