Thank you, Nic, for the new one!! Embellish sounds difficult to remember. However, since there is “bell” in the word I’ll remember the word trying to imagine embellishing is like to talk something exaggerating like ringing a bell loudly so that everyone can hear. 🔔

One of my friends is always one-ups me. “I lost 3 kilos in 2 months. I’m so happy!” “Oh, great! I lost 10 kilos in a year!” (Becouse you spent lots of time for that and had enough weight, I think.

Thank you Nic. I have been living in America for almost 30 years, but I’ve never used “one-up” and “embellish”. I think I’ll start using it more actively from now on.”

例えばwe bonded learning English together はby leaning English together だと間違いですか? 逆にshe embellished her story adding skills she doesn’t have(byなし)だと不自然ですか?
That's a great question! 😃 この場合はどちらでも大丈夫ですね😉 We bonded by learning English together.(by+動名詞) We bonded learning English together.(分詞構文) She embellished her story by adding skills she doesn’t have.(by+動名詞) She embellished her story adding skills she doesn’t have.(分詞構文) はどちらでも大丈夫です。

Learning a couple languages at the time can be challenging.
He always embellishes how much he drinks at the music festival, but considering how much he spent there this year, he might've overextended himself by buying anyone a beer. In that light, it might be safe to say that he incredibly cherishes the festival from the bottom of his heart.
I have a lot of paintings and handicrafts that were made by my kids but I will not be able to throw them even if these are mess in my room because I really cherish them.

Embellishing stories is sometimes more interesting than telling the truth. Embellished stories are sometimes more interesting than the truth.
