This is the best video of the D1. All others made it sound thin, they did not make justice to it. Other guys are more worried of showing their skills, not the instrument. GOOD JOB !

Pretty sure the D1 blends between the 4 sample levels. So it's not that you'll always be playing at one of 4 volumes so much as it is that you'll always be between those levels.

@gwapster13

BTW, at around 10:45 where you were figuring out the difference between Bank 1 and Bank 2 of PIANO1, it's subtle, but it's this --- Bank 1 has a longer note decay ("note release" sample) than Bank 2, akin to the difference between a 9 foot concert grand vs. a regular grand piano. Apart from that, basic tone is exactly the same sample I think. On successive notes, you might distinguish the thickness/richness due to the decays adding up, even with the same reverb setting. Lastly, Bank 1 will probably need more control on the damper pedal, if you keep it fully pressed sometimes the even-longer decays of undamped notes makes the sound too "dirty".

If Korg added pitch bend and modulation wheels and a few sliders and knobs like Roland did with their RD88, I'd be much more inclined to check it out as a compact and easy to use stage piano and keyboard controller. Hopefully the D2 will address these features when it's eventually released! Are you listening Korg?

Pitch bend and modulation wheels, a proper small display, briliance slider, and main-dual voice intensity slider would be enough. Sell it 60-80 USD greater Mr. Korg, people would be buying a lot more for sure...

I think I’m going to stick with my N1. Old as it may be, I like the hands on controls I have. I also am happy with AI2 because of the nice custom programs and combis I have. Wish there was a nicer resonance filter for the M1 on this thing. I like a fairly dynamic M1 piano but am glad Korg includes it on this keyboard. Not having the M1 piano on a Korg keyboard would be a deal killer for me. But this seems like a nice affordable stage piano. I’d really have to play it a bit for myself though to really get a feel for it.

I have an N1 and now a D1. I much prefer my N1 over the new D1- even though it is ancient and a heavy beast. But the tones don’t even compare. That being said I needed a lighter more basic and compact 88 key board and the D1 is quite nice for what it is. But for most of my gigging- I still haul out the N1.

Great demo, is it better than a Kawai es110 hmmmmm I dont think so. However this keybed is great which is the only thing you are buying. However honestly is there anything else you need other than a brill keybed and midi connections, well maybe? I think keep the bells n whistles as you can add that with VSTi's that blow every keyboard away. I'm amazed how heavy it is and it seems bulletproof, its built very well. My decision is this or ES110 and its tough one. Especially for practice, bluetooth to IPAD vs a million leads camera kit midi usb converter and death from tripping over them from too much drambuie! I think the cost of a USB and Bluetooth probably a tenner in parts is what takes stars from this great keyboard.

I was in Andertons this time last year doing a side by side comparison of these two. Coming from a pianist of 40 years the main thing to consider here is the key action. To cut a long story short, I went for the Roland because a) It had internal speakers (which I really wanted), and b) because in my opinion the key action is better and more realistic. The Roland key action is definitely firmer than average, but the Korg is even more so, almost to the extent that it is too heavy. I would imagine playing it for any considerable length of time would become very fatiguing. A year down the line and I'm still very happy with my choice of the Roland FP30 :)

Hello does anyone have experience with playing on Korgd1 and Kawai es110? i look for good keyaction keyboard.
@gwapster13
@gwapster13 5 жыл бұрын
I had a Kawai ES110, and replaced it with a Korg G1 (exact same key action as this D1). The ES110 keys had more bounce, but at the expense of more key noise, and I mean really noticeable thud sound at each press of the keys. But I guess that has more to do with the hollow cavity of the plastic casing of the Kawai not being "damped" enough, unlike the D1's much better enclosure. Also if it matters to you, on slow key press (soft notes) you would notice a bit of resistance point on the Korg like a simulated escapement but it's so slight and Korg doesn't even say it has it. Apart from being generally heavier weighted overall than ES110 keys, that is. But these nuanced things make the Korg key action a lot more realistic subjectively.

@gwapster13
@gwapster13 5 жыл бұрын
@titaniumslug You don't need to wait for "full return" of the key before you can repeat a note on the Korg RH3 keybed. It just needs to be about 1/3 of the way down. It should approximate a grand piano action in this regard. I only mean key travel; tactility is of course better on the real deal.

So far, knock on wood, the Korg does not disappoint. There is almost no piano come without a built in speaker, so this has no direct competitor in any keyboard category. If you wanna say price wise, I would say this will dominate the budget line Yamaha, Casio or Kawaii but these come with built in speaker. For Roland FP30 it is way more pricy in comparison. For synth category, D1 seems to lacks of sounds and sample option and most of the synth in this price range does not come with hammer action keybed. So it is hard to compare this thing to anything on the market. Not to say I want one so bad.

@@pianobard5478 Supposed to be the same keybed as high-end workstations (Kronos-2 / Nautilus) so one would suppose so, but you'd have to look at the MIDI stream to be sure (Pianoteq is handy for that, including the free/trial version, has a small footprint so it's easy to chuck on a laptop). Since posting my comment I went with Studiologic SL Studio, preferring the action - though that has its own flaws: slight clickety-clicky side-to-side slop in a couple of the white keys (i.e., the plastic outer shell). One day I'll pop it open and try to fix it. The Japanese keybed in the D1 might be more solidly built (?)

Insofar, the video would have been just as nice (or nicer) *without* playing nearly every single sound. PA as in "public address". once you amplify a keyboard (especially when playing in a band) the subtleties of different piano patches (one company to another) really are hard to hear. hard to call one "better" unless you're in an ideal listening environment (headphones, studio monitors)- and a PA or combo amp is so far from an ideal listening environment. Of course this fact ignores the power of the PLAYER loving his or her piano sound and what it does to their playing....

Interesting sounds- tempting, but let down by the poor quality of the electric pianos. Also the piano sounds are all a bit too percussive, and sounding pretty close miked, which does not bode well for recording them straight from the line outs. Ok for a live environment where you have the room adding ambience. If only there was more ambience on the ambient reverb patches, and adjust the level of ambience. Punchy sounds, but may be hard to live with such "in your face" sounds all the time. The gap in quality between the main sound, the acoustic piano and the others is huge. Fundamentally this is a one sound instrument. Acoustic piano, and all the other sounds are not that good. But the acoustic pianos are very good.

@@Zushikikato Hey, given what you said about the SP250.. Would you say there is any hope for the SP-170 or SP-280? Thanks in advance! : - )

@@vccranker AFAIK the SP-280 doesn't have the RH3 keybed like the SP-250. Feels like a toy/plasticky. SP-170 piano sounds thin compared to the SP-250.
