Korg i2 vintage workstation - Direct recorded demo

I had never heard of a Korg i2 unitl the day I bought one. It's an interesting history lesson, and even though it shows it's Tears-For-Fears vintage, it can still be programmed to make some good sounds.

Great demo. Replaced the dim display mine developed. Works great. Replacing disk drive with thumb drive. Works good for 80's music

I put my i2 in storage since I got my Kronos SE last year. The i2 was capable of layering only 2 voices but did have a fairly decent rhythm accompaniment for its day. Nothing compared to today's arrangers but still functional. I would have it in my rig if I had the room.

@@gearfacts I have since moved my gear into a spare room and got a triple rack which now houses my Kronos, the i2, my NS5R, my Peavey mixer and space for a new Wavestate when I get it.

Don't mourn it. In comparison to the new i3 it's utter crap. Gonna sell mine. Noone wants it 😂 For like 100$ I could sell it for, I'd rather donate it to some local school.

I still like AI squared synthesis to this day. I have had a couple of different synthesizers that used this engine. An 01/w Pro X, and an N1. I believe this model may have been from 1994, but the engine actually came out in 1991 which was basically just a reworked version of AI synthesis.

And I know I’m from the states, but I enjoy your videos on keyboards. I especially have to laugh at the junkie keyboards you review from time to time. Like that one Livingston keyboard and the zippy Matt and other ones. Some of those are just comical to me. Especially since the first keyboard that was placed in front of me as a kid was my mom’s Yamaha DX seven to learn on.

I think it actually used the X series engine due to GM sounds being the same from the X3 so it’s probably built sometime around The Fall of 1993 or maybe the winter of 1994

@@gearfacts Because most videos starting in Language Nursery (1997) used it for Sound designing and composing music and however they used the GM sounds (Especially the drum kits) so yes that’s why because of the sounds were used

I saw them in shops around 1993. Was drooling about the whole M1, 01w, T3 back then. In today's world they all have no place anymore. Utterly inferior cheap dull sounds.

@@gameon2000 mmm no, they have some particular sonic capabilities with charcter, obvious they cannot replace modern workstations like fantom, kronos or montage, but they are cool for certain sounds, infact korg and roland do vst versions of those oldies. the sound engine inside i2 is the same as X3, so an update m1 engine with better compression, more effects, more modulations etc....but still the vdf with no resonance,and lacks waveshaper of 01, so i2 is a complete programmable synthesizer in every aspect.
