Really nice keyboard with intuitive navigation, great sounds, very portable (very slim, nice!) And then there is the price, there is no competition at the moment. It would be great when the two potentiometers would have multiple assign functions, like for now it is only bass and treble, but f.i. filter cut off, Reverb and Chorus.

@@jansenwilder1335 the Krome RX is not an arranger keyboard. The Krome EX has benefits of its own and deficits of its own. The i3 is designed for a certain demographic and for that use, it works well.

Sí Ujiie es muy bueno con sus demostraciones. Pero, francamente, éste es el teclado “workstation” (no es un sintetizador estrictamente hablando) más barato en el mercado. Para el precio, ofrece mucho.

Wow ! Korg is improving a lot with the arrangers . but stil a way way behind Yamaha arrangers , atleast with styles section ! With more and more development , korg could be a very good competitor. I always prefer korg keyboards for the key action and sounds !!!

This thing may or be for some musicians, buts it’s def for me. I can have some fun with this. I just hate them cheesy piano sounds, but they’ll do. Maybe if you turn the velocity down on it, it’ll sound a bit better. I do that with the triton extreme, and it makes a difference

Hey there..I agree. The grand piano and and the other piano like acoustic piano don't sound good. Until I discovered something on this keyboard. Go and stroll on the pianos On the grand piano setting going down on.#s Until you find mono piano go to the effect settings and to default take off the reverb. ( I kept a tiny amount) same with a nice attack piano. Super nice piano now !

@@titomartinez4339 another thing too with Korg period is the cutoff filter. That’s like closing the lid. On Korg Kross, you can do that with the modulation wheel. Sounds like the lid is being closed. Any keyboard after Oasys has a pretty decent piano patch tho, except i3. If they had a cutoff knob, that problem could be dealt with in a way.

I want to buy korg i3 but i scare about one thing. It is really run on 6 x nimh 1900 mAh - It run all time without turn off ? I have one keyboard who need 12 V like this korg, and it can run on 6 x nimh but when i play and play more hard it turn off. I scare to buy unuseful keyboard. Can you tell me what keyboard is best run on nimh? i read about roland juno ds who need 9 v and run on 8 nimh. What about casio or yamaha?

Hi Jeremy, I saw your review on Korg i3, thank you for lovely videos. I've got one question - I am hesitating between Korg ek 50 and Korg i3... Which instrument is better in terms of quality and functionality? Assuming that price is not an issue, as well as the lack of internal speakers... Korg i3 costs roughly 150 USD more than EK 50... What would be your recommendation? Is the quality same, in terms of build and key actions? Thank you / Michael

Keyboards haven't had much of a sound improvement since the mid 90's. They've gotten a little more "tech" but the sounds, which are the most important part, barely change :/

Are the styles, intros and endings copyrighted by Korg? -- Are you free to use them without permission, credits or royalties? Example...Say you want to compose an original song or arrangement and use these features, can you be sued if the song gets picked up and/or played in public? Not just Korg but other arrangers as well from other manufacturers...I've always wondered about that.

I wonder why Korg continue to produce only the hardware version of a synthesizer. I think you cannot store so munch keyboards versions at the studio, or at home. Now I think Korg should work on a sort of box, an expander for exemple, upgradable (storage 2To), on which the owner will buys sound sets corresponding to a synthesizer. The main idea is to have only one keyboard without sounds (midi keyboards) and tons of sounds coming from expander. Now I work with my iPad and a midi keyboard. When I need sounds I buy it on AppStore.

I use a number of sound modules in my studio, and still love the hardware keyboards, myself. I like the idea of the immediacy of the instrument and it is the instrument, as a whole, that makes a difference. Having a host unit to play virtual engines may not sound the same. I am not into soft-synths much at all, because I love the immediacy of the hardware keyboards. I am somewhat old school, and there is something in having 4 or more boards on stage that I can turn to in an instant and start playing. I do not have to set up splits or anything. Plus, each keyboard is responsible for its own sound (and sound character of the keyboard itself) and that is more appealing than playing an iPad synth from a sterile controller. To each their own :)

@@carlosheisenn4421 hola hermano, la verdad aún no tuve chance de probarlo. Te puedo dar mi opinión en base a lo que lo he escuchado: la calidad de sonido no es muy diferente a la del Kross 2, pero en mi opinión le falta bastante fuerza y calidez sonora. En ese aspecto creo que la gama Triton es superior. Ignoro si posee memoria para Samples como en el Kross, sí en cambio es un sinte Workstation, en el cual vos puedes armar canciones sin necesidad de un secuenciador externo. Lo que también noté es que no tiene el modo Combi, eso se debe a que sólo se pueden mezclar 2 o 3 sonidos y uno a la izquierda, como es comúnmente en varios teclados de este rango de precios. Convengamos que sale unos 65 mil pesos, o sea, no es taaaan caro tampoco.

I’am waiting for the vst version of this keyboard, or the version sampled into a VST. I like Korg products but I have too munch keyboards in the studio, and no places to store all of them. Please Korg, remember, expander or VST are future, keyboards blocks evolution.

I think this is just a re-issue of the classic rompler korg engine, with some tech-up-to-date feature and nicely compressed in a tiny format. Thus, the sound within can be easily found on the triton vst

The engine on the i3 is the same as the EK-50. The EK-50 has relations with the Micro Arranger, which itself was, I believe, the same engine as the PA-50. I believe that the PA-50 had a similar engine to the Triton (HI Synthesis). The i3 is basically the EK-50L in a different case with a different interface. If you want these sounds, I would recommend either getting one of these, or spring for the Triton Rack. In fact, the Triton rack would be a better deal because it has more features. I doubt that Korg will release a VST of this keyboard. Maybe they could release a VST of the Triton or something.

ANKR the PA50 was an older arranger based on different tech than the current models. I have a PA700 as well and that one is EDS.

It can't see where the i3 should fit into the market. As a synth it misses the combis, like the Kross has. As a composing tool it misses a useful sequencer (it has no quantizing). As an arranger keyboard there are cheaper competitors which offer more features.

@@mikethompson3729 I would say a Yamaha PSR S700 or PSR SX700. Those have useful composer functions and good sounds. If you want a synth, you can get the Kross 2.

This is designed to be an entry-level unit for beginners who want to get into songwriting. I see it there, more than anything. I use it for other things and it performs well for me. This is not to replace anything or probably even break new ground. If anything, it is a more complete EK-50 in the form of a workstation :)

This is a great busking keyboard. I think the i3 platform has huge potential. I would like to see a 76 keys version with complete soundset from the Kross2. And with support of user purchased styles instead. Personally I find onboard sequencer pointless, you are better off sequencing with a Daw on laptop. However, pattern/looper based sequencing can be very useful to sketch out idea. Arranger styles function is also more fun to play than just a drum track and arpeggio.

@@advers-cg the PA500 has not been in production for quite some time... you cannot compare it to the i3. The i3 is a different instrument and is rather, a hybrid type instrument. $600 USD is not overpriced at all for what this keyboard offers...

That typical glassy and hollow Korg sound, bad samples, even worse summing, blending together horribly. This keyboard sounds like the old nineties X3, Korg always recycles their old and outdated PCM. Horrible, horrible sounding machine...

Have you actually PLAYED one in person? Have you sat in front of one in person and tried it? I bet not. I own one. While it has an older sound to it (Triton-era) sounds, it still sounds pretty good. The interface is easy to read and it does play well. I do wish they would finally get rid of the Triton-era samples though. When EDS came onto the scene, everything should have switched to that. Even the Kross and Kross 2 use an embedded (integrated) form of EDS.

Korg has worked for me very well over the years and they still work well for me now. My first keyboard was a Korg Poly-800 back in the day. Again, I ask: Have you actually played the new i3 in person? Korg may be 'broken' for you, but Korg works just fine for me...

@@shawnaebbeson7882 I do not only play for living but make professional grade sampled sounds and drum kits, I create all kinds of sounds for Korg, Roland and Yamaha, I listen every day how those keyboards do the summing, how they render the sound both factory and custom made content. When it comes to technically bad summing and sounds reproduction there is no for you or for me, it is just science. I love Korg, it was my first keyboard and it is hard for me to be objective 100%, also I use Korg for my studio work for which it gives something no other brand can offer, but in general their ROMplers sound very bad in reproducing real acoustic instruments, not to mention how hard limited are those factory multisamples and how bad it sums multiple channels together. This "new" i3 is actually so old it uses many multisamples from the old i3 from there nineties.

@@BojanBojovic The soundset for the new i3 is basically, in my estimation, the Triton soundset. It is certainly dated. While on a scientific or technical level, the samples in hardware synths are not comparable at all to the samples found in software libraries. There are MAJOR differences. I totally understand that. There are a few exceptions when you buy the super high end gear like the Kronos, Montage, Fantom, etc... I guess the point I was trying to make (and certainly not trying to be adversarial about any of it), is that for my needs, and I suspect the needs of MANY other users out there, the i3 is going to work for them. I had initially bought it to be the bottom keyboard in my live rig (of which there are 5 keyboards). Now that I have purchased ANOTHER synth for the bottom tier (an 88-key unit), the i3 will sit above that and control another synth or two in my live rig. Would I have bought the i3 as a stand alone arranger or workstation? Definitely not. I already have the PA700, as well as over 12-13 other boards in my rig/studio to do my song arranging. I wanted something quick, dirty, and maybe most of all, lightweight, to fit the bill. I also imagine that most users would not really care about the sample quality, per se, as long as it sounds good to them and sounds good on however they are using the synth. For that purpose, the i3 would likely work for the masses. I am also sure that with future upgrades and enhancements, they can make this board into something even better than it my already be :)
