Make no mistake, both are sonically great. They are separated by nuances. Technically, Roland wins, as it was more samples on disposal and 16 insert effects compared to only 5 of Krome, plus a set of pads. But it is really down to which nuances you like more, especially in live playing.

I love my Korg Trinity even though so many years is of course technology moves forward but the execution and warm sound does not always progress when it comes to the synthesis of sounds and heat mainly I'm talking about synthetic sound, however, because acoustic instruments sound better known in the new technologies of course. This is my subjective opinion. Great presentation !! Both represent a great synthesizer. Piano, Guitar and combi orchestra I like more in Korg, rest sounds Roland better from my opinion. Greetings from Poland

Krome sounds way better to my ears. yes that might mean more compressed, darker etc but there's a fullness to the sound that's lacking in the Roland. yes you can mess with the EQ but i'm going on what i hear here and what gives me a vibe and Korg wins by a landslide. there's a harshness to the tone of the FA i can pick out in every video demoing it.

To be honest: I have a Krome 61, and a Fa-06. I play both in church, through a very expensive PA. I have to say, The FA-06 overall sounds better for me and its more organic to me. I hate the Krome action! I have to say The Krome Sounds really good too. I love the Electric pianos in it, and Synths! The Organs are horrible on the Krome! But really, playing with a band, the Krome sounds horrible, believe me :) It just don't sound right in the mix live for me! But don't get me wrong, the style of music I play, the Krome does not do it for me. I say, if you like Techno, Dubstep, House, Club music, go with Krome, because the sounds are very processed, and they are not the way organic instruments supposed to sound. If you like Gospel, Reggae, Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Caribbean, and other styles of music, The FA-06 is for you. The synths sound more realistic and has more life to them in the FA-06. One thing you guys have to know, the presets used in both boards in this video are factory presets. (I hate factory presets) I edit my own sounds! There are endless possibilities you can do with both boards! There are no wrong answers when it come to professional instruments. Its about what works for you! One last thing, you know how I said I don't like the Krome? : Well, recently I attended a concert, it sounded amazing! It's not the instrument, it's the player folks. Try it before you buy it.

The Krome has the touch screen, but it doesn't have Tone Remain like the Fa and for that the Fa wins. I can't stand trying to switch between sounds during a gig and the sound abruptly stops when switching sounds. The Roland Fa has Tone Remain like the Kronos has SST. It doesn't make any sense for a keyboard of the level of the Krome not to have that basic function.
@arlonrando8 жыл бұрын
Roland of course. :-D Piano is more natural, if you need Piano. I like these Workstations as you can do comlete songs without turning on your Computer and get lost in Cubase and Logic. Good to simply do songs. On the other hand - so many crappy sounds, like also here in the Demo. Like "synthlead". A Synthlead Solo most of the time is very - boring. Sounds have to be superb and super-authentic - or let it be. Like those organs. Often boring. But a real lesli-effect on a good warm organ sound - thats another world. Or "distorted guitars" or "nylon guitar" in a workstation - bääh. So the demos of these workstations most of the time sound really boring and some kind of "cold" and "static". But yep, nice tool to work on song ideas without too much gettin lost in computer screens. But sometimes i think - ah, through this electronic toys out of the window. Take a real piano, a real guitar - and do real music. thats why i use now a guitar, an 8-track recorder (zoom R8) and tc-helicon voice live as it is all easy to use and can improve singing and playing every day without turning on hundred devices, and simply write songs. The tc helicon is great as motivator as you hear yourself with effects singing and harmonies.

there is something not right with the Krome's EQ do you agree? i came to india for my holiday, so thought to hop in a music shop, they had Korg Krome Out of Stock , so i had to try the Roland FA-09, to my disappointment the piano's were a joke, organs, guitars, i tired to set the EQ for the piano, did the release function and so on. i kid you not, my mother knows no shit about music, but she was listening to it, told me whats wrong with the sounds? Im not blaming the keyboard, maybe the PA system was not set properly... but compared to Korg, the FA06 is not comparable IMO ive played it... tones not my expectation.

Combi/Split - tie (really they're two different sounds so they can't be compared but the roland drums are impressive Piano - Krome (Rolands sounded muddier) Jazz organ - Krome (The Krome had way more bottom end, Rolands sounded cheap and fizzy, the vibrato was nice though) Steel Acoustic - Krome (Krome had more depth even though both sounds sucked) Strings and Woodwinds - Krome (Krome had more bass and clearer highs from the winds) Electric guitar - Tie (both sounds sucked) Synth Lead - Roland (The reverb gave it a nice big sound) Overall id say krome wins.

When did roland become a casio. Please Roland, fix you depth of sound. I love my JD 800 but not much of your stuff since. You should be an innovator. Anyone else think that sounded like a toy in comparison to Krome or even the PC series of kurzt, hell that VAST engine is a tough cookie to crack, However the KROME engine really gives it a run. The win ultimatly goes to KORG because, the interface. And Jordan Rudress plays BOTHm so HA! Roland low end continues to and has always been thin. However their interfaces and usability are intuitive. Correct your samples and you would do better. Your engine i guess just sounds old. Maybe it is me. Seems to me. Anything but the Roland in that price range.

In some respects, this is comparing apples to oranges. Like cars or anything, some aspects are different and better, and on these two keyboards, some patch types are 'better' than others, but there are no benchmarks in reality, because even the real instruments these sounds are based on, are not only in different venues but are treated during recording. When all is said and done, there is no 'better', only what type of organ etc, YOU like the sound of. I have an 06, but the Korg does better electric guitars FOR ME.

The Roland FA wins. It has a bolder more realistic sound, except the first song, the bass line needed a little work. @pcuimac10 жыл бұрын
The Krome sounds were spot on. The FA-06 sounds were suboptimal for the songs you played, so it's difficult to say wich ones better. The Axel F. for example was much better on the Krome but just because the sounds were like the originals. Maybe loading a SRX sound library would do the trick or tweaking the original sounds of the Roland. jm2c
@achamilton10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, this is indeed something which is always against us on sound comparison videos. Some sounds work with certain songs better than others, but we just choose from a huge list of preset sounds so we do not create stuff that is not in the product, just like to show off factory resets. Lots of tweaking can be done on both products to create the sounds you desire.
@Eisenwald6410 жыл бұрын
That and the fact that Roland has released a new soundbank for the Fa-04 expanding the piano sound: axial.roland.com/articles/exp-04-concert-piano-collection/ You are only reviewing built-in presets, but keep in mind that they may update these synths. I'd rather have them both.

With regard to Axel F, I have it set up to be almost like the original sounds that Harold used on my FA-08. The sound that was chosen on this demo is a poor choice from the existing library and doesn't do it justice. It only took me about 10 minutes to find the right sounds. BTW, use a split (and a studio set) and put in the correct bass and other sounds to do the song justice.

Korg Krome wins in everything here. More realistic sound, clearer, and I did not like the attack on the Roland. Pretty surprising because usually Korg and Roland often trade hits with different sounds. They both sound great and I would have to hear them both playing back multiple sounds (like in a midi song) to really compare how they sound as a whole. I was just checking both out at Guitar Center not 40 minutes ago and they both are tempting.
@ricsim788 жыл бұрын
+Rick Simon Well, just got the Korg Krome and I must say, with the exception of certain sounds like the Pianos, the Roland FA-06 is a more organic and better sounding keyboard to me. Especially with General Midi songs and such! I am quite disappointed with the Krome, I got the 61 key version and the keys are terrible feeling...mushy and way worse than the Roland FA-06. I am even debating if I want to keep the Krome. I will have to give it more time (have used it for an hour or so) but General Midi files and first impressions mean a lot. The outputs on the Roland are much richer and it goes a lot louder than the Korg as well.
@mikecorey83708 жыл бұрын
The FA's attack can be adjusted by the turn of a knob. I've got one and it's a great keyboard. I also have an old Korg (X-5) that's really great too, especially for gigging. Not a ton of patches but everything you'd need for a gig. Comparing the FA to a Krome is not really a good idea. They're completely different.

Hi Kevin, we always strongly suggest people see these instruments for themselves before purchasing. Videos are used as guides only and everyone has their own opinion of what is best for them but we suggest seeing them in the flesh to hear the true audio from the products. The videos here for example do not compare the features but just some sounds to help people make a judgement but this is different from comparing the capabilities and sounds of the products as we all hear them through our own sound systems. It is quite possible if you were to compare the products in the flesh you would have a completely different opinion. good luck with your purchase whichever way you decide to go.

Thanks for the question, as a store we have to be unbiased and just give people information about the product so they can decide which product is best for them. One person would prefer Roland, one Korg, One Yamaha etc etc so there is no specific 'this is the best product' but only what you deem best for your needs on the information the store can give you. If you require any specific features that may be required for your music production then we can assist with that and answer your questions.The only real way to tell is to play these things for yourself and listen to them on the same sound system.

Even if you added the Kronos, Motif and Nord stage 2 in this mix, although there might be a consensus, no one board would win. Why Midi files don't sound properly after rendering out as it sounds properly while recording software tracks on any DAW. I mean what's the use of midi files when am unable to get the proper sounds as we hear during the recoding of any midi track on a Daw like Logic pro but when I export to .midi files the sound gets muffled then what's the use of midi when am unable to store my Midi backing track using software instruments which is same as midi only on Logic pro.

Wow the Roland piano is tinny sounding. The Korg sounds amazingly studio ready but the Roland obviously would need some serious EQ, compression and other mastering. On the other hand the Roland has some DJ type of quick creation features that the Korg doesn't. And as far as which I would have, the JX3P, Jupiter 6 or Juno 60. Because these both sound non-organic and very plastic box to me.

The Krome's pianos are indeed very good, and they can get even more awesome if you layer them, detune them, and you can a super-phat sounding grand piano patch this way. The Rhodes pianos are also very good, it's very easy to adjust their timbre on the fly, and you can also layer them to create some pretty awesome 1980s-types of Dyno-My-Rhodes patches. The main patches in the Krome are very good, but it becomes even more powerful when you use its "combi" features to stack sounds on top of each other, multi-part splits which a lot of songs call for, etc. The organs aren't bad either, despite what others have written about them in this post. Again, if/when you use the COMBI mode, you can build some incredible organ sounds. The built-in Clavs are quite good, too, as are some of the 1980s/1990s types of synth sounds as well. It's basically got the Korg M3 sound engine, but with also some patches coming from the Kronos.

Roland has a much more deep synthesis under the hood....up to 4 separate linear partials everyone with up two pcm waves (same as fantom and xv5080), every oscillator has 3eg and tvf resonant multiband filter, you have ring modulation and boosting and structures.....and on top of that fa has a real virtual analogue inside same as jp80 (no joke) same parameters and waveforms....so speaking in terms of programming fa can do so much it's a powerful synthesizer. Krome has the synthesis of m3 plus something new....and different waveforms you have more and bigger piano samples and rhodes but synthesizer waveforms are less than m3/m50 (lacks completly wavestation rom). So...depends of what you wanna get out of the instrument...i would choose roland for more synthetic attitude...

i went to india for a trip with my mom. She has no interest at all in music, so i plan to get home a Roland FA--06. Plugged it in a monitor speaker, piano is crap, strings, brass synths. While playing my mum said, whats wrong with the sounds? no you not getting that thing. On my way home to a transit in HK, when i played the Krome Piano, violins. TAKE MY MONEY

I wish either of these keyboards had the brilliant Yamaha FS keybed like the O1W, DX7 etc had, so much nicer to play. I'll stick with my beloved Motif Es6 and my Nord Electro 5HP. Out of these two though I'd take the Fa-06

Well it's comparing apples and oranges, especially on Axel F, because on the 06 it sure wasn't a 'super saw' on that. I have gone through almost every demo on YT of these, and it depends on the playing styles, and sounds chosen, as to how good it sounds. I don't think doing a Vs on any keyboard is doing any favours, as every keyboard has it's own unique sound, and isn't that what we are after, 'our' own sound? It occurred to me the other day, that if I could recreate a song exactly like the original, then I might as well play the original track! Sure, we've all searched and noodled sounds to get as close as possible, but that's often the skill of the player/producer and their skills with the instruments. With good editing, I dare say these two keyboards can be made to sound alike, but who is to say what's good? After that, it's down to the playing. You can make both keyboards do a great 'Whiter shades of pale', just get editing.

Both do well. I own the Roland (about a month now) and I love it. I also have a Korg X-5 (around 20 years) that has sounds the Roland doesn't and I won't let it go. I control the Korg with the Roland and combining them has made some really great sounds. In the end, we're all gear junkies and want it all. If it just wasn't for the money. I'm going to use the Roland on my soft synths next week and see how that goes. I've got stuff I've never even heard. The Korg will control them too but I'm curious if the Roland will do it better.

Don't know what kind of speakers some of these guys are listening to, to compare. Must be cheap headphones from apple. FA grand piano sounds way more realistic to me. Yamaha for arpeggiators. Korg for synths. Roland for all around variety of good sounds. Huge library too!

Overall is KORG .. for the synth well i had to go with ROLAND .. buuutt, KORG's sounds waaaay much THICKER .. and that just fantastic for any recording or live performances

I hope Roland comes out with a serious workstation which is more comparable to the Montage, Kronos and Kurzweil forte, it would be interesting if they included features from the Roland V synth or the Jupiter 80 combined with Rolands supernatural engine. Also Roland should make a product that is of better build quality then the FA06, its a mediocrity in this respect.

I can tell you right now that this was not a fair comparison the drum in the Korg are way better than the one he chose he could chosen a better drum kit I have the M3 and the drum kits in there are great the Roland kit he played on the first song was good.

Thanks instruments2go for this video. I owe Korg Krome and I do really like the sound - tried some Roland in similar price range - couldn't find anything as good as this Korg. Maybe Integra bu this is about 400 quid more. There are some things Korg should work on - VST plugin to control Krome from your DAW not working under 64bit systems. It has also issue with storing fx sends when it's connected via USB to computer - I'll try to find some time to make an video about this issue.

The ROLAND FA 06/08 BOTH dont have a aftertouch keyboard :'( ITS A SHAME!!!!!!!
@AxelWerner8 жыл бұрын
***** you always can map any controller to aftertouch anywhere. that is not a solution. not having an aftertouch keyboard in 2015 is an absolute no-go to me. Roland should produce high class instruments. Not cheap arse pseudo DJ show-off gear. - i would LOVE to buy a FA 06 or FA 08 if it would include an aftertouch keyboard. but because of that missing, i guess ill go for a KORG Workstation now. even im a total hobbyist.
@looneyburgmusic8 жыл бұрын
+Axel Werner Why is that really an issue.. I no longer know any keys player who does not have at least 2 or 3 boards that have AT. Just MIDI-in from one of those if you really need the AT...
@jonc55887 жыл бұрын
I believe the Kong doesn't transmit after touch either. It seems to have become a 'high end' feature. In my experience it gets in the way and I have to turn it off for a lot of the Logic soft synths. In any case, per key aftertouch is what you really want to balance string chords on the sustain and I don't think many keyboards offer this at all - plus it creates tons of MIDI data!
