This Synth is without a doubt a very very underrated chimera. Especially for an analog synth as the sound is so drastically different than most analog poly-synths. It sooo much wants to rather sound un-analog and very lo-fi. You really have to listen to the instrument and how it guides you. Because you won't get the same sounds on this thing that you would get on most other synths. And despite (or maybe because) of that you get lost in it so much and end up with sounds that you did not really intend to make but how the Synth wanted to sound. This is a wonderful way of discovering an instrument and making presets for the Minilog is so much fun. You really need to completely disregard what you know about analog synths when you play with this instrument. Then it really is an absolute pleasure to fiddle with. And i am pretty sure in 10-20 years from now it will definitely be seen as an absolute cult synth. Probably even more than the Minilogue XD that is an entirely different synth rather than a successor or Revision but more like a different approach.

One of the bettter explanation videos on the Minilogue I've come across. Have a like a and a comment!

This is the best tutorial on Minilogue I have seen in every measure. Thank you for taking the time to explain what other KZbinrs are lazy to speak about (like the PItch EG int and etcs). It really helped me to deal with some functions I wasn't understanding.

This is a brilliant explanation video about the strengths of the Minilogue and how to get at them. Nearly two years after acquiring the Minilogue as my first synth, I still keep replaying this video to learn how to make certain types of sounds (e.g. Wah-wah sounds such as those from Tears For Fears "Memories Fade" or at the end of Olive's "Miracle") and to get more out of the functionality at my fingertips. As for the Minilogue, there can't be many better synths out there for newbies like me to learn the art of (subtractive) synthesis. It's so powerful and feature-packed (polyphony / 16 step sequencer / arpeggiator / motion sequencing) for the price. And that means that what I choose for my next synthesiser (probably digital this time) will have to be pretty special. I just hope that Jef Gibbons will have a similar explanatory video for it!

MAN! Just ordered the Minilogue and await it's arrival. One thing I hadn't seen in all vids I've watched is how to save/export patches. SOOOOO GLAD you showed this! Thank you

Hey man! Ive had my Korg minilogue since late summer, fooled aroung with it a tiny bit. Now during quarantine I really got into playing it, praticing my motor skills on a keyboard (I play Guitar and Bass but always been fascinated of synths and how they operate). THis and your previous video on synthesis really really helped me out to figure out what my machine can do. It is quite overwhelming to just look at the knobs and try to figure them out by myself or by reading articles. Your videos on the other hand - look very well produced - are very well articulated and you DEMONSTRATE well every aspect you talked about in this video. I had to fool around with my Korg while watching and gave me more insight. I have to tell you that how the Minilogue EG affects the filter and how the EG int affects the filter too took me while to understand. SOme parts I just had to watch like 5 times to wrap my head around them since this is unfamiliar territory me. But after these I don't feel like complete fool anymore. Keep it up! I feel these are very simple concepts when you properly understand them but for a commoner like me it took some effort to understand this seemingly complex stuff. Linked the synth basics video to couple of my friends too who are wanting to get into synthesis. Cheers from Finland. Also in the end of the video you said that some people get this kind of gear, play with it and then let it gather dust. This happened to me in 2011 when I got my first synth novation ultranova. I just couldn't make my self to understand it, just playing around a bit. It all seemed so difficult and at the time I was a teenager and had "a lot of going on anyway" and decided to sell it 6 months later, the synth fever never went away tho. EDIT: I feel I need to watch these maybe a few times more. Im not gonna remember all this shit unless I do this all the time, which of course is preferable for learning. EDIT2: Woulda been nice to have some info on how to sequence with modulations. and how to put different length notes to your sequence. How to save them (if possible) and how to add modulation to your sequence. Or can you only do sequences, assign modulations to it and save it just by recording them in Ableton (DAW of my choice) and let it be there. Sorry I had a hard time articulating what I am trying to mean.

Thanks Antti! I went through the same learning curve on this synth, it takes repetition to really get it! Thanks for the suggestions for future videos!

Good examples explained, I thought I recognise your voice from a few years back i always used to think why init pre set instead of Hoover or organ bass ect was never used in other vids as saw the main sound,I now think my minilogue more useful for me to produce psych trance for the mad sounds modulation and res ,filter.

Nice to see some 2020 vids on this. Was originally planning on getting the XD eventually but this one was -%50 so more than half the cost of the XD and I couldn't resist. So I should get it next week and am really excited to learn more about it as its my first hardware synth!

Subscriber here! Thanks for choosing this little synth for a basic tutorial. Look forward to watching you dive deeper into what it can do, I feel like you were just scratching the surface! In particular, I would like to see you cover the sidechain mode and the eg mod on the LFO. Anything to further understand conceptually the way all these knobs and switches are affecting each other, it's like a rabbit hole!
