I bought a Korg Nautilus in 2022, and i love my Korg Nautilus. The Nautilus has the Oasys piano sounds. The Korg M3 Oasys Kronos and Nautilus are from the same family. But the one thing i like about the Oasys is the quality of the sound, which most modern keyboards miss. I enjoy my Korg Nautilus.

Had a Korg Kronos for a couple of years and loved it. Something about the Nautilus sounds like it's being held back, and not the full audio spectrum is coming out(a bit thinner I guess)(different A/D convertor perhaps). Kind of like the difference between the Yamaha ModX and the Montage. Both the Nautilus and the ModX come close to their flagship cousin, but to my ears, a slight difference, and I'm listening on the same headphones I've used with these other synths. If you really want the Kronos richness, save up your money and get the real deal, it's totally worth it. If your budget simply will never allow a Kronos, I'm sure you'll be very happy with the Nautilus. Great demo Jack. Your enthusiasm and love for keyboards are worth watching every time! Anderton's GIVE THIS MAN A RAISE! lol

It's interesting that you mention the slight audio quality difference between Kronos and Nautilus. I owned a Korg T3EX for 25 years and it sounded slighter richer and crisper than my Korg X5D and a friend's N364. It was very hard to describe but the T3 just sounded a little bit better.

KRONOS 2 actually sounds as good as the OASYS. I still have my OASYS that I got new in 2007. 2 years ago it took a dive on me when the hard drive crashed and had to get it recovered. I’m waiting for a new SSD to come in so I can transfer my music and sounds from the last 12 years into the new drive. I’ve been using my Triton Extreme the last two years and as much as I LOVE my Triton Extreme I REALLY miss the expressiveness and the unbelievably beautiful sound of my OASYS. There’s nothing quite like sitting in front of one and actually be able to make music on it. I’ve used everything on it exclusively and while it’s a far cry from a DAW, it’s honestly THE BEST experience creating and sequencing tracks on it because of what a dream it is to use. Even in comparison to a KRONOS 2, there’s literally NOTHING quite like it. If you can get a good condition OASYS 76 or 88, jump on it and prepare to never look back! Alot of these boards sadly are getting riddled with hard drive failures and no one knows what to do when it happens to them, because they don’t have the discs and the know how to be able to put in a new drive and get it up and running again. It’s quite the process and it can literally happen out of NOWHERE, which is what happened to me. It took me TWO YEARS off and on to finally figure out what the hell happened to mine when my hard drive crashed and I had to have my drive recovered so I can get my sounds and music back that’s irreplaceable. So if you get one, watch out for that and keep regular backups. This is also the reason they made the KRONOS with an SSD and put an Intel Atom CPU in it. It runs a LOT cooler, it’s far more reliable as it’s less prone to failure. They made a lot of improvements to the KRONOS 2, especially because of the hardware changes. But as I said there’s nothing quite like the OASYS. So if you get one, replace that hard drive with an SSD PRONTO!

I tried a Korg Kronos 2 V3 and a Nautilus recently, the Kronos doesn't sound as thin as the last time I tried one, and the Nautilus sounds just as good, but even cleaner. Maybe that Nautilus you heard was a bad one?

@@Jason75913 My impressions were based on KZbin demos for the Nautilus, and of course YT compresses audio. But I've listened to demos of the Kronos on YT and it sounds better to me, plus based on my own experience having one and recording with it. Don't get me wrong, I think it sounds wonderful, but they do have different A/D convertors which can affect the quality of the output.

I just made my own combi sound combining 3 pianos, 2 string and a flute and it sounds amazing, so much control also the vocoder works great I was able to make some awesome sounding vocoder sounds.

Bought mine in mint condition for $ 3,000 back when they were going for 5 to 6 thousand used with some wear and tear to them. I got real lucky to come across deal like that. About 8 years ago, I think. Hard to keep track of time that passes by... It still is in mint condition, and it's the centerpiece of my gear. It sounds absolutely phenomenal, very clean, just superb even that the technology made some leaps since then. There is something they did to it that still makes it sound like the king of keyboards it was designed to be.. The keybed is second to none. No other keybed on any keyboard I've ever played felt so good as it does on the OASYS. I loved it then and I love it just the same now. I wonder how many of these are left in the world in pristine condition. KORG made only 3 000 of them. (I've read somewhere that it was so expensive to make them that KORG actually lost money on it - but they made up for it with KRONOS, the stripped down version of OASYS that sold like hotcake). It's been now 17 years since the first one hit the market. Still the best sounding keyboard in my gear even as the other pieces in my weaponry are no slouch, either.

Another great video, Jack. I'm fortunate enough to be the owner of an Oasys that I bought used in 2009. It was expensive, but it wasn't $8,000... still, it was a lot. Obviously technology has changed a lot since then, and I've gone through a lot of synths, plug-ins and even a couple of DAWs. But Jack nails it at the end -- there's something really special about the Oasys. You can't explain it until you've sat in front of one. It is extremely high class. The UI is just so well designed, and editing on a 10" touchscreen is amazing. There are many, many tools now that are more "powerful" -- any DAW with Omnisphere and Kontakt, for example. But "specs" aren't the only "features." Elegance, workflow, and build quality are features, too. (A Steinway grand has zero GB of RAM...) Your laptop has better specs, but the Oasys is way more classy, more fun, and it won't distract you with email, software updates, reminders, and iMessage. It's hard to describe how well made and elegant it is -- the Kronos faders and knobs feel rinky-dink compared to it. It can do really deep synthesis, too -- not just one-key-elevator-music compositions. I keep wishing Korg would release an Oasys v2 or a next-gen Kronos but everything seems to be moving to the consumer end. I'll never get rid of mine.

Hardware or software. 9 engines, KARMA, 16 part Combis, 16 Track audio/midi sequencer, drum track, perfect performance layout and UI, thousands of incredible sounds in every genre. My Kronos is going on 15 years old and to this day, nothing compares. And I have tried everything. I hope it lasts as long as some of the 40 year old M1’s that are still around, but if not I hope Korg makes a true successor keyboard or a VST to keep this line alive. Incredible engineering

as always, you, Jack, and Tony too, the Anderton's duo, give by far the best demo videos on you tube. That being said: a lot of those combination sounds on the OASYS are also on the Kronos, but when you played the individual programs on the OASYS, specifically, the piano, EP and strings, they were not nearly as crisp and sharp and clear as the current Nautilus model. So , Korg HAS evolved in sound quality over the years.

Thank you for this amazing demo of both the Nautilus and the OASYS ! You play so well. WOW ! I've always been a huge KORG fan, and I currently own an M3 (no relation at all to the M1 - very close to the OASYS in fact) , a Z1, a Prophecy, a MicroKORG XL, a MicroX (Triton sound engine) and a TR-Rack (had a Trinity but it blew up 😞). I also own an Access Virus TI snow, Roland XV-5080, Yamaha MX-88 and a Waldorf Micro-Q. Have owned more than 50 Boards & Modules over the year, for live and session work. You can see and hear elements of the OASYS in most of the workstations that KORG has produced since. But unlike the other major manufacturers who tend to simply recycle old sounds and features. KORG continue to remain on the cutting edge when it comes to innovation. Look at OPSYS and so many others. But if you compare the Nautilus and the OASYS, the huge improvement is obviously in the pianos and electric pianos. When the Kronos came out with NINE sound engines, it seemed so far ahead of the competitors, I honestly wondered how they could compete at all. I'll never get rid of my M3 because there's just nothing like it, especially live in terms of a huge and very OASYS-like sound. I would like to see the Nautilus 88-key with the "light scale" keyboard...

The Captain is my favorite guitar guy and if I weren’t in the states I’d be there and Andertons! Anyhoo, the Nautilus looks and sounds great, but I don’t think I’ll ever update from the Kronos because of the drawbars and I’ve already put in multi gigabyte solid state drives and Bluetoothed the thing! I can’t imagine anything outdoing that! Sure I have other synths too, but Kronos is and always will be my hardcore workstation. The Nautilus does look lighter than 100 pounds though, that’s why I have a PSR S770 though, I’m a freak and upgraded it as well, although it’s not a sampler. The oasys is a great big elevator music machine. Looks like an entire studio mixing console.
@mitsanut58692 жыл бұрын
And the mixing console machine it is. It does everything and more. However, I think that because it does so many things so well (even by today's standards), it does get bit too complex and it tends to steal valuable time from anyone who wants to create and just play. I use only a fraction of what it can do, and I use my other gear to do other things. I had mine beefed up, it's now a sound powerhouse, and always the first keyboard I play out of the 5 total. It's sound is what grabs you. The demo hear didn't do it justice. When you turn on the combo and disable the backing track software, that's where you get unbelievable sound colors with insane quality. I like to use those and work with them, which is quite interesting due to board layout. You can actually work 3 different real time modifying features with fingers on your one hand. The sound you can get of of this thing is often unreal - all without any other additional gear or pedals. It took me a long time before I could do the things I do on it now. To some nerds, the OASYS might be outdated when compared with today's machines and what have you. But most of these people never even touched this keyboard, never heard it in real life so they have no idea how great it sounds, how fantastic the keybed is, and how easily and fast you can employ many of it's features, all at the same time and all while you're playing. You know those are the people that jump from gear to gear in hope the next one will be the miracle that will make them famous or whatever. Originally, I found OASYS very complicated and it always seemed to steer me away from whatever I intended to do with it. I spent more time in parameter guide than with the instrument itself. Then it came to me that this is a keyboard that can suit well any type of keyboardist and that I simply just have to find the way for the keyboard working for me, bit vice versa Once I accomplished that, then I was able to benefit my needs. Other guy will appreciate other stuff OASYS can do, and so on. I learned how to do my things on it, and in conjunction with my other gear, it gives me genuine satisfaction. And boy, did I mention the keybed?

On a side note for, "Made In Japan," Hammond Organ (and Leslies) were bought out by Suzuki of Japan, but organs were still manufactured in Chicago. When the Kung Flu came on the scene, democrat Chicago major Lightfoot declared Hammond's factory "non-essential" and order them to shut down. The owners had to sneak into their own business during the night and haul their inventory to their house, where they finished filling outstanding orders for Organs and Leslies until nothing was left. The execs at Suzuki were outraged about Lightfoot shutting down Hammond, so they built their own factories to start making them in Japan. An entire factory and jobs forever gone from the U.S. The way I found out about all this was that some months ago I wanted to buy a Leslie but they were sold out worldwide, which was puzzling since Hammond had been building them nonstop for some 50 years. I found a contact in Los Angeles who filled me in on what caused this shortage, and said a new shipment from Japan was going to hit a few US music stores that week, that I should check with them everyday. Sure enough, Sweetwater got a few in and I snagged one of them. Then they were sold out again.

I hate that a lot, then the sound is as good as the Kronos, which then I'm torn between loving it and wanting to break it.
@stuartwilliams73712 жыл бұрын
Kronos is basically a modern revamped version of Oasys. I have Oasys 88 and Kronos 2 88, a lot of Oasys stuff is in the Kronos. Kronos will play sounds from Oasys but Oasys won’t play Kronos, again part of the revamp.

So, does the sampled piano ambience layer cut the polyphony in half to 50 then?

Is the "insides" of the Nautilus comparable to the Kronos? I got the MODX after the sales guys said it was essentially the same as the Montage....No its not. It just did not have the same sound quality even though it was the same patch. So that said does the Nautilus has the same components as the Kronos? Even though it has the same 9 engines, the other components may make it sound "cheaper". How would you compare the same patch on the Kronos and the Nautilus?

Does anyone know why Korg stopped making the Kronos? Is there a newer version coming out? I like the KARMA feature the Kronos had. Why didn't Korg include that in the Nautilus? The new Roland Fanotm 0 series looks like something to look into but I like the Korg products, after all, Keith Emerson used them, need I say more.

As far as I know, the M1 was teh very beginning of the Korg Workstations. The OASYS although amazing was too expensive so I bought a Kronos. A lot of OASYS owners were rightly very pissed at Korg when Korg stopped doing updates fo it and concentrated on the Kronos. Better for me but not good for people that shelled out $10,000 as was the price for an 88 key one in Canada. I think the Nautilus is the baby brother to the Kronos. Not enough controls on top for me but it sounds great!

I am starting to think these were short lived then production wise?
@jeremythornton4333 жыл бұрын
@@procta2343 If you mean the OASYS, then yes I think it was but it was crazy expensive. To walk out of a store with an 88 key model it would cost over $10,000 Canadian. I paid under $4,000 fro my Kronos the year it came out. They're still making those 10 years later.
@procta23433 жыл бұрын
@@jeremythornton433 That explains why they are so rare then, and why the triton was still about. I know kurzweil stuff was well known to be expensive at the time too.
@jeremythornton4333 жыл бұрын
@@procta2343 I think they were too. I bought a used Triton Pro X 88 key around the time the OASYS came out and I paid $1,000 for it. I still have it but I don't play it much. I should though. It's a great keyboard with great sounds. I just find I spend more time on my Kronos.

New to your channel, love your energy and charisma. I never got the chance to own an oasis. I’ve owned the triton rack, triton Le, triton studio, and the Kronos. If it wasn’t for the dated interface issues with modern daws, I would love to own an oasis, except it’s too big for my small studio, and where could I find one, eBay?

This Korg Nautilus is so more expensive than a Modx. It is a level above?
@Johnherlihy13 жыл бұрын
yes, way better pianos. Looks and feels professional - made mostly of metal, and better keys. I sold both the MODX8,6 - the 6 felt like playing a toy keyboard. I love my Nautilus 73
@Jason759132 жыл бұрын
Nautilus' insert fx won't scoop out the lower midrange like MODX fx, too. MODX keyboard is kind of junk for the money, even the cheaper Juno-DS keyboards beat it.

The only thing about those joysticks is they fall down when you have to slowly modulate something over long periods or leave it up at a certain value... *edit - or rotary speed!

I have the oasys 88 and will never sell it. I was at guitar center few years ago and was able to load the Oasys into the Kronos forgot how but it required a reboot. The Oasys will always be better, much faster pc board than the atom processor in the Kronos and nautilus. It’s a Pentium IV 2.8GHz vs the intel atom processor and motherboard does not even come close to it. Much more upgrading potential in the Oasys as well. I also like the pads on the Oasys and not have to worry about purchasing a separate midi pad instrument for the Kronos.
@Jason759137 күн бұрын
Oasys speed comes from the software, that woefully archaic single-core Pentium4 doesn't compete with the dual-core/quad-thread Intel Atom D2550.
