I own a Pa5X and the styles are so complex, beautiful and modern. Not the old styles on many other brands. I love this machine. Thank for the demo Woody. You make this machine more acknowledgeable in the world of the arrangers

So with one of these I could play at weddings etc and make good money without even touching the keys. Just play through the styles and everybody would be happy. Might be a good investment.

might be helpful if you added some vocals or played the melody. failing that maybe you could do a dance... ;)

that's my plan, though I plan to find a singer-songwriter-guitarist, and run her/his mic and guitar into the Pa5X, create our own styles, etc. with maybe a few standards in the set list. I have and play organs, synths, modular/semi-modular, workstation, stage keyboards, PA systems, etc. I also play guitar, bass (with a few pro rigs for both) and can sing (not great but workable), and it's difficult finding musicians or bands around here unless you have a known band with paying gigs lined up, and are much younger than I am. also, challenging to find musicians that have similar music interests, goals and understand adult responsibilities, especially drummers. A duo should have fewer issues than larger bands, I hope.

@@zoomzoom3950exactly what i was thinking. I only need 2 singers, male and female, so we can cover more styles and more songs. Ideally they should play an instrument. Weddings will always be a good income source. I know a guy that made a fortune with korg arrangers with his wife who sings anything and a guitarist

I'm a solo pianist / composer, buying my first arranger as a fancy metronome to help in timing variations throughout my music. Never having the chance to play with a band, the arranger was fun and staying with the band in timing was a learning experience that I never ended up using for solo piano. Instead using for synth orchestrations, just a hobby and experimental, solo piano is the only instrument that places me on a stage. The first arranger stuck me with no way to create, so it was boring within a short time and bought the second arranger. The second was totally creative allowing style creation from a blank program. This is where I learned that style creator pattern sequencers are the most powerful sequencers in the world. Giving up all step sequencers except for only the most basic additions, the arranger was now the center for accompaniment. I was able to stop multi-tracking synth compositions and begin recording Vangelis style all in one take to a 32 channel mixer summed down to 8 channels on my recorder. As an organ player using both hands and feet was always a part of me, so the Vangelis recording technique was an easy switch from multi-tracking. The miracle happened when I discovered how the music improved as a one take. Totally immersed in the song, playing freely an accompaniment my own left hand and two feet, and then adding the pattern sequencer (arranger) to fill in for more complex arrangements. Now the one take was unlimited and could be as simple or complex as desired. This free playing gave life to music that multi-tracking removed. I hope everyone who orchestrates with synths can experience this, simply begin by programming your own arranger style to your own composition.

❤ Exactly. Your thinking is also my conclusion. After 25 years or recording in Cubase, -started with Nuendo- i miss playing live and this Pa5x would help me get some of that energy back. I have played live many times, but studio production started to get a bit too mechanical. In September i will buy this and as you sai, will male my own styles, maybe add a good singer guitarist. I ve started as a guitarist. I have many vocal songs and instrumentals , some of them on KZbin...Nobody care for original music, but....playing live is a nice thing to feel alive , make people happy. Good luck everyone and thank you Woody. ❤

That arranger keyboard looks dope 🧡 Its price on the other hand.. I'll stay with my i3 and my fantom 6 😂
@zoomzoom3950Ай бұрын
workstation isn't the same as arranger, that's why I have both, and other keyboards. my i3 is definitely dated and limited compared to my Pa5X as indicated by their respective prices. IMO

It would be so easy to write derivatve songs with one of these. Just keep the drums and maybe the bass and a background sound or 2 from the busiest section, enough to give some tonal guidance but not enough to suggest the intended song. And then play along with that, but play whatever, instead of the intended song. Then on a new pass, turn off the bass accompaniment, and play a new bassline that fits with what you just played for the lead and chords (or whatever part you just played). Then maybe replace any other backing tracks that you originally played along to, if you want. In the past when I've done stuff like that, I like to make any drastic drum changes, to the preset pattern, before I play anything else along to it. I tend to fill in the space around the drums, so if I do that, and then try to change something the drum pattern, sometimes I can't find the right place to put them... I didn't plan for that and leave the right space. So, I tend to mess with the drums first. I've never had a too of the line arranger, though. Maybe these things funnel ypu towards the intended song too much to break free from it? It would be fun to learn some of these songs, too. Even this keyboard is a little too staid and clean sounding for my style of playing, so far. That's why I'm more curious about how easy yet deep it can be, to edit or create patterns and sounds. I think there still should be a couple of more basic videos first, but please don't forget to demonstrate this, when the time comes.
@WoodyPianoShackАй бұрын
unique to this is the dual style players, so you can quite easily mix and match styles with various muted parts to create hybrid styles, i have some demos of this coming up. it has a style creator but rather tedious to use, no fun at all.

Hey Woody! Thanks for sharing info about this keyboard. I'm really considering getting the PA5X instead of Genos 2.

really tough to choose between those! or as i have said before, a $2000 used G1 is still a value alternative!

@@WoodyPianoShackNo expert but a Yamaha DGX-670 (20 kilo's, 88 weighed keys) is also interesting as long you need not lug it around. About €800 without stand and pedals and under €1000 with factory stand and three-pedal magic.

Hey Woody, Still watching, but... You commented on a previous post of mine regarding EK-50 and i3 having something in common. Well today I bought a USB-stick to put styles etc. on and did some research by accident... The styles I was to put on the stick via laptop could also be used on i3 and XE-20. So my assumption is that it has sort of a GM standard and very well work with maybe better (or different) sounds from the same cathegory (piano, strings etc.). And for now I continue watch you play the Pa5X 😅

This keyboard is created for live performance where you get reverb from your environment where you perform. This is why they keep it dry and the styles open.

be sure to compare the features; i considered some mid-tier arrangers which aren't that much less than the flagship models. I recently purchased the Pa5X-76 and I'm having a blast, much more interesting than my old i3

I DON'T MIND THE ADDS
@Simon-ui6dbАй бұрын
These are all well and good, but when the style is a blatant ripoff of a specific tune, it does make it kinda useless. If I wanted to have the backing of a tune, I'd just use a midi file and do the melody 2 handed on piano or similar. Does sound good though.
@WoodyPianoShackАй бұрын
excellent point, i am in agreement, will actually shoot an opinion video about this later this week!
@billfries7269Ай бұрын
Yes, this is true on the surface; however, it is a “style” and the fun of the Korg is how you can edit the style (including instruments, drums, etc), the chord progressions and mute/mix them differently to use these in other tunes. For example, I have had fun lately taking jazz standards and playing them over modified versions of these classic pop styles. I look at the styles as a framework to create something new.
@ArrangerKeyboardPlayer23 күн бұрын
The Pa5X has some beautiful styles, but i just don't understand why they're THAT song specific. Yamaha has some styles built in that make you go "I can play that song with it quite well" but never "Oh i can ONLY play that song with it" and the Korg does have that. A shame really, because it otherwise sounds really good. It's a shame that so many of the styles just sound like polished up Midi To Style files.

Super cool machine. I would have a lot of fun jamming with it. There's just one big problem, that every arranger suffers from, even one as nice as this. As nice as the styles are, it still sounds canned. Everything is super quantized, and there's no dynamic variations to speak of. Just my opinion.
