Cool! I was curious enough from all your arranger videos to get a Korg EK-50L, which is obviously much simpler than either the Genos 2 or PA-5x, but it’s been fun to get to play along with your discovery of these things!

Great intro video for prospective buyers, especially those coming from the Yamaha arranger ecosystem. I actually like the Korg Keyboard Set/Songbook concept as I don't need Yamaha's 8 or 10 panel registrations buttons in a row. 4 variation buttons for the style is plenty for me. Saving sound combos on SX900 is quite awkward as you have to create a voice only registration file and name and sort them appropriately in an organized manner which creates quite a mess in the User area. For arranger players who are sound combo focused, the Keyboard Sets system is much better.
@UDPride8 ай бұрын
Great videos. The Pa5x is extremely powerful. Another functionality I like is you arent tied to any specific drum kit when you choose a style (such as the default kit they choose for you). You can change the kit itself. So you could choose the Bossanova style but use a Hard Rock drum kit. This is great if you love the sound of certain drum kits and want to use them on different styles. Of course you can also go granular within each style and if you wanted to change the kick drum or snare you can certainly do that to get the precise sound you want. You could create a Phil Collins sounding kit with relative ease with lots of toms. This ability to mix and match styles and kits makes the possibilities almost limitless because a rock kit on a soul or bossanova style is almost like a different sounding rock style especially when you fool around with the tempo and use the matrix to mute any unwanted parts that are still too "bossanova-y".

I have the Korg PA 5X and it's feels nicer to play than Genos and it sounds so much better all round in my opinion... A lot more up to date styles too .. the chord looper is amazing
@WoodyPianoShack9 ай бұрын
yes, although chord looper is on both, it just seems easier on the pa. but how are korg owners managing without genos registration buttons? i know there is the songbook, but it is not at all the same. that feature is for me, sorely missed.

@@WoodyPianoShack i still only have the original Genos... i am sat on the fence about Genos 2 because i still havent fully explored creating my own styles on the Genos 1 yet... i think once i have done that i may then think if it is worth getting Genos 2 , and yes the Genos Registrations are so handy but as youve probably seen , on the PA5X , you can really edit the styles so much so both keyboards have pro's and con's
@genosman9 ай бұрын
I own genos1 and pa5x. Both are great keyboards in their own right. Korg lacks some features essential for style creation. Hope korg will update the operating system with new features. But format of style files is more advanced. Keyboard is better on korg to my taste. But besides registrations, Yamaha has a lot of really quality content which is easily convertible between models (korg always introduces new style formats and there is no backward compatibility). When it comes to styles all-in-all Yamaha wins for me in rock dance and pop categories, korg has very nice ballads and Latin styles section though. Hope it will help people who are on a fence for their new keyboard to make a decision:)

Hy...I see everyone touching a knob on the display screen and then turning the jog wheel to change the value...But is it possible to just move the button on the screen to make it + or - changing values ? Thanks.
@kalleblomkvist766726 күн бұрын
A bit late... but if you or someone else wonder.... Short answer - Yes! Left and Down - value changes, Right and Up + value changes Moving diagonally faster value changes, Left to Right slower (more precision) So first move diagonally until you get close to wanted value, then move Left/Right (without lifting the finger) to fine adjust! Of course some times you need to lift the finger on knobs on the edge of the screen :)

Thanks, Woody; perfect timing; my new Pa5X is due for delivery tomorrow. I originally planed to get the 61 key as an organist most of my keyboards are 61 key, but opted for the 76 key. Not a pianist, so weighted keys are not my first choice. wish they made 88 key options with waterfall/synth keys...IIRC Korg did make an 88-key Kronos with synth action?

Woody, thanks for another thorough video on a great arranger keyboard! I had tunnel vision of buying the new Genos 2, until you explained some of the enticing features of the Pa5X. The Genos has about 200 more styles, but with Korg's X-Fader, the style possibilities are expanded exponentially. I also like the pad matrix, and smoother instrument sound transition this Korg offers. My keyboard purchase history has favored Yamaha for years, but from the mechanics to the aluminum and wood case construction, the Korg seems like more bang for my buck! While performing, in your opinion which keyboard has the highest ease of use in the controls/touch screen layout? My familiarity with Yamaha's PSR arrangers makes me wonder if the Pa5X might be hard to transition to, yet I yearn to choose the best instruments to help me grow as a musician.

hi and thanks for the comment, i find g2 to be much easier to use, more intuitive, bigger friendlier UI on the touchscreen. definitely found myself referring to manual more with the korg. g2 has fantastic registration buttons which are incredibly useful, lacking on the korg. the korg however is stronger in other departments. impossible for me to pick a winner.

Am I wrong in thinking that you did not recognize the "Soul Bros" Style as Sam & Dave's hit single "Soul Man" from 1967 Woody? Written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter, Rolling Stone magazine included it in their "Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. It was also covered by the Blues Brothers, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, on "Saturday Night Live."

This keyboard is a Marvel of technical genius. However the styles are very much entrenched in tired old western music. There's no Japanese Styles in there so there's no refreshing new sounds other than the stuff we've heard in the 80s and 90s in the west. I wish they would come out with some Japanese styles.
