@moskva-kassiopeya7 жыл бұрын
you mean white indicators? because blacks always been there, since minilogue
@Zinfidel17 жыл бұрын
They're not even really black lines! They're just an indention in the knob and they're awful. They've used those same type of knobs since the Electribe 2. It was especially terrible on the black version of the Sampler with black knobs.. Then they used them on the Minilogue and the Monologue. Again, black Monologue with all black knobs. Awful decision. Korg has an obsession with black and grey things.
@Zinfidel17 жыл бұрын
Also, the Volca Keys. I NEVER know what the knobs are pointing at because of the tiny, 100% clear plastic knobs. Thanks Korg. I'm glad they finally invested in some white paint. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the new Volca Mixer has tiny all black knobs on a black case. Korg is at it again. lol

The original minilogue's HPF -> delay circuit isn't here and it really changes the charachter of delay-heavy sounds (because on the minilogue their lows were trimmed out, so the delays were very thin wheras here they're missing more hi frequencies and fat in the low end). I will miss that, I thought is a was a really awesomely clever aspect of the minilogue design to specifically house the HPF in the delay circuit (and allow it to be routed before or after the delay). If Korg had given us an analog stereo chorus (like the famous one on Roland JX/Juno/Jupiter) I would have become invariably smitten with the Prologue! I'd probably prefer it to the analog LF compressor circuit they put in the Prologue. For the record I don't think I'm smarter than Korg at designing analog synths - but that doesn't mean I couldn't be right about what most ppl would prefer / buy for these aspects! Really nice demo tho yo

The Prologue like any other synth is an instrument that you should try for yourself. Many people made assumptions due to it's specs without trying it and figuring out ways around it's limitations. I have seen the Prologue in top tier touring musicians keyboard rigs and I have also noticed that musicians who have the Prologue gravitate to using it more over the Sequential synths. This is not to say that Sequential synths aren't great but even spec wise a Prologue has more voices, it's bi-timbral, has 61 keys (16 voice version), has superior quality effects, and the same number of LFO options as Sequential VCO synths and Sequential only one up with after-touch. For me it's a keeper for as long as it works.

Larry Wilson I just got the minilogue and it's incredible, so you wouldn't regret buying the mini. Not to mention you could buy 3 new or 4 second hand for the price of the prologue. I honestly think this synth is great, but it is a bit overpriced compared to the other synths in the family. You could even get a monologue and minilogue for half the price and have a duo-timbral 5 voice set-up. Or two minis for 8 voices and two different tonal qualities. Although the FM and digital section seems really cool.

@shadowseal226 жыл бұрын
Yeah and if I want to buy a Polysix at the price Korg are charging I could just buy one over this and have a more authentic vintage tone. The Prologue isn't simple, it's dumbed down. The FM stuff is cool, and the effects are to die for, but unless you are a keyboard player who only wants to do the most basic of analog poly sounds, the Prologue is woefully under featured, and kind of sounds like ass on patches that don't involve FM. If you want a simpler setup a P6 or an ob6 (or really even a Peak if you want some the FM stuff too) is just a better option. If you are looking for price to performance there is no argument to be made for the prologue. Even the workflow on the Rev2 is faster, and has fewer menu dives.
@RoomAtTheTopStudio6 жыл бұрын
shadowseal22 have you really listened to the depth of the sound on a Peak or a Rev2 compared to a Prologue? Have your felt the power of the low end in comparison? A-Mazing synth. This and OB-6 are the only 2 great modern polys in town (I've owned most of the others including Prophet 6, Rev 2, JD-XA), and the Moog One may as well not exist given its price and the sound isn't all that vs OB-6/Prologue anyway.
@RoomAtTheTopStudio4 жыл бұрын
OB-6 has the pad sounds of the OB-8/Xa that was used in original Jungle and Hardcore back in the early 90's. I would love one for that straight away without delving into what else it can do. The Moog One is a mono synth/poly synth/string synth all rolled into one IMO. It can do all 3 jobs at the same time. Nice but I prefer my own more unique choices of mono/poly/stringer. That's not to say the Moog One isn't a great synthesizer, I just don't think that it's really for me. I also agree with you 100% with having a Prologue and an OB-6 means you don't need a Moog One. Add a string synth like a Farfisa Polychrome or an ARP Solina and for me I would get more joy from combining these 3 synths than I would from the Moog One but that's my own personal choice. More power to those who have and are enjoying their Moog One.
@final_mile_music97133 жыл бұрын
It’s amazing how quickly we are willing to dismiss synths we cannot afford. The Moog One is a tour de force. It’s that simple. If you haven’t been impressed with what it can do, I would politely suggest it’s because you haven’t yet heard everything it can do. Whether it’s worth the money.....well that’s a fair point. It’s too much of a synth. A cheaper bi-timbral 8 voice would be perfect.

How is the 16 voice prologue cheaper than the DSI rev2 16? I guess the rev has more parameters? The Korg sounds so much cleaner IMO. Think im going with the Prologue.
@SpacehotelMusic4 жыл бұрын
I've had a Rev2 and really didn't like it much (I later had a Prophet 6 then OB-6 and let them all go once I got my Prologue 16 as it REALLY does sound better and has much more luxury in it - 16 voices - beautiful sold interface etc..). I don't need tons of modulation (rev 2) but I do like patch naming, 5 octaves and more than 6 voice poly (which P6/OB-6 lacked). It's cheaper simply because Korg can make it more cheaply while sequential are a small company with few staff and have a good brand name so can set prices higher (almost like Moog). That said, the new Prophet 5 rev 4 is definitely a great synth probably the first truly great sounding synth Dave Smith has made since the originals.

I"m not commenting to claim that what you suggest wouldn't sound good - but it would sound "analog" in a very different sense than a Synth like the Prologue with real VCOs & resonant VCFs sounds "analog" - the analog charachter that tubes (saturation), tapes (saturation, wow/flutter, flux), vinyl (other specific shit), BBD analog delays (Hi Freq loss, saturation) impart are each distinct and all of those very different than analog filters & osscilators sound. So perhaps you just don't care for or really recognize the sound of an analog filter, you can hear it on the Prologue & Minilogue XD very clearly, it's a sound that can't be replciated just like this digitally, especially not from the Microkorg which as the most popular selling synth for over 10 years is extremely well-known. Sure there's an extent to which ppl choose the minilogue/prologue over the MS2000/micorkorg just because they're told it's analog and analog is the trend these days. But it's not a myth, to all.

The Prologue sounds really good. I would like to try it for myself. I own the Rev 2 and so far it the Rev 2 can produce the sound of the Prologue, but the Prologue can’t do everything the Rev 2 will. I don’t think I would buy the Prologue but I wouldn’t discourage someone from making that purchase. It does sound really good.

The Rev 2 does sound great and has some features the Prologue doesn't, but the Prologue also has some features that the Rev 2 doesn't, mostly the 3rd digital oscillator that can produce some different sounds.

I have a REV2 (which I bought from perfect circuit audio, incidentally) but it looks/sounds like this prologue will do a LOT that the REV2 won't)

damon bennett the Rev 2 has a VPN oscillator? VCO’s?

Like I said, I’d like to try the Prologue out for myself. I’ve only seen videos with people playing stock sounds. From the sounds I’ve heard on these demos, the Rev2 makes similar patches. I haven’t heard a demo to this point that shows off some of the things it can do that the Rev2 to can’t. So hopefully soon I’ll be able to test one out myself. In the meantime, like I previously said, I think the Prologue sounds good and I would recommend someone to purchase it.

@@damonbennett5911 Man, the Rev 2 even without competition from a great sounding genuine VCO poly like Prologue, sounded pretty weak. Yeah I did own one, from new, and sold it (losing money on it) cos it was so annoying sonically (and a bit annoying to program with all that modulation matrix shit just to try to get it sounding decent). Horrible filter, weak DCOs (not all DCOs sound bad but Prophet 08/REV2s DO). I sold rev 2 and my prophet 6, Prologue was way nicer than either... WAY NICER. The only modern synth I kept after I got Prologue 16 was my OB-6 as it's so unique and great sounding, but they both sound great, neither is "Better" but both sound better than everything else out there (inc Moog One!)

Compare video to Deepmind 12. On the fence between the 2.

I sold my DM12 for this. No regrets.

No competition. Prologue makes mincemeat of Deepmind and it also destroyed my Rev 2... christ even my Prophet 6 sounded 'bad' next to the Prologue. I can only think of ONE other modern analog poly that matches it or sometimes betters it (but Prologue also sometimes better it back), the OB-6 which I also own. These two are great together and destroy everything else out there in terms of pure sonics (I don't care about "features")
