Small ambient improvisation using Korg Volca Bass, Volca Keys and Volca Sample. I was planning on adding a melody line but forgot it halfway through the take.
Zoom Studio 1204 rack effect is used for delay and chorus.
Recorded in Logic X with a light compression and stereo reverb on the master bus.

F$***ing finally ! It's hard to find someone NOT playing techno or dubstep nowadays. Thank you for this. Don't know why but it made me think of the "Stranger Things" soundtrack, the bass especially.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I'm not much into dubstep, but I really like the Stranger Things soundtrack. Glad this reminded you of that. :)

It's easy to record an improvisation and the Volca series sound quite good as they are, but a little preparation and additional effects will go a long way I think.

Thank you! The sequencer only has 16 steps so it suits more repetitive styles of music, but if you get a little creative you can come up with some more "ambient" arrangements. The Volca Sample has pattern chaining too, and that's handy when creating variation.

Analog Skies I don’t have the bass but I hooked my beats and keys up to my monologue, it was so much fun and so intuitive. I can do these for hours.

Thank you! Just play around and you'll come up with something, I'm sure. Oh, and don't forget to add some effects like reverb or delay, it really helps the Volca to shine.

Beautiful. I wish I knew how to work all this kit. I'm from a dj background wanting to get into my own improvised production. Are all these sounds already within the volka?

Ferhan Khan Photography they are all analogue synthesizers so you have to make the sounds through sound synthesis, no presets. Bit you just need the hardware to make all the sounds you can make with their synthesis

Nice vibe, I like it. I notice that your Sample and Bass run twice as 'fast' as your Keys. How do you make them do this? Do you simply dial half the tempo on the Keys, or..? I have a Volca Sample, and I consider buying a Bass or a Keys, but the criteria would probably be that they can sync together in double or half tempos of each other. Can you recommend a solution? Thanks.
@yophable
@yophable 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The Volca Keys has a "1/1", "1/2" and a "1/4" sequencer setting that allows you to run the sequencer at full, half or one quarter of the tempo. This is handy because it it gives you a sequence that's 1, 2 or 4 bars long. Note that the sequence only runs at half or one quarter of the tempo - you still only have 16 programmable steps available in your sequence, regardless of what tempo division is set. The Volca Keys also has a "Flux mode" where all inputed notes are recorded non-quantized i.e it doesn't "snap" to the nearest beat, but it does give you the option to have a four bar long (when set to 1/4 division), non-quantized sequence, which is pretty cool! The Volca Bass does not have tempo division nor Flux mode, so it's a little more limited in that regard, but on the other hand it has three separate sequencer channels per pattern, one for each of the oscillators! Both of them will sync with the Volca Sample using the included sync cables, but only Keys is able to do half or quarter tempo (not double though). Since you already have a Volca Sample maybe you're using the pattern chain feature. This does not exist on the Keys and Bass unfortunately, but you can still change patterns manually during playback.

By the way, I don't know about you but I got the volca keys and it's actually pretty noisy once I record it. Any advice ?? It sounds amazing on your track !!
@SleutelbosMusic
@SleutelbosMusic 8 жыл бұрын
Its a common issue, usually caused by using the wrong cable. Part of the signal will cancel the other part out, and you get less signal and more noise by accident. Check the manual to be sure, but you probably have TRS-TRS, and need either TRS-TS or TS-TS.

Thanks! Since the Keys phones output is stereo (a mono signal sent on both channels) I used a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2 RCA phono plugs, but I only plugged in one of the RCA connectors into the mixer for a mono signal.
