Chris Wilson Most guitar pedals don’t contribute significant noise if set properly. The Chemical Brother said they used a multitude of cheap guitar pedals on their multimillion selling albums and no one said the synths sounded too noisy. Honestly, I think guitar pedals are a cheap way to add some new color to synths.

First Volca that I really want to own! Why to settle just cloning TB303 authentically like so many try to do when it's possible to create bassline synth that sounds BETTER? They did it. And as it is cheap new techtoy, vintage purists will propably hate this. :D And those who have spent fortunes to their antique collectables to ain some street credibility. I have listened Acid House since it was new genre at the 80's and started to do music in mid 90's. Couple years after that became first virtual synths and propellerheads rebirth. I tweaked that piece of software until I got enough and had to take over year long break from acid.. I also got Novation Bassline which was not too good clone. I've had long list of gear, including HardSID which was quite refreshing.. unique sound but it also got that certain acid vibe. Gnarly sound. ABL soft is good clone if one wants authenticity. Or TR03. And then there is x0xb0x and Acidlab basslines... There already is bunch of options for those who search accuracy what comes to TB cloning. But who says TB303 it self is ultimate absolute? Like if it would impossible to be better acid machine that? I think this little basssynth is just *spot on.* Acidier than TB! This just does it all better, no reason to emulate something when you can supersede it. Over the years I've also found out that acid house has that vibe, it's not just authentic sounding TB clone + filter jerking. Acid House with that magic "feel" can be done with pretty much any machines, no need for even TB clone at all. FM synth can do it very well too... and absolutely no 100% accurate TB303 clone is needed. Original pioneers of house, acid house, chicago house, detroit techno.. they didn't spend fortunes to classic gear. They used flea market choises.. cheapest possible gear that existed. Ghetto trax you know. IMO oldschool techno / acid loving vintage synth collectors have attitude / ego problems. ;)

Acidier than TB? No need for TB clone? FM synth can do acid very well (wtf)? To be honest, I don't think this sounds like a 303 at all, so it's an apples to oranges comparison anyway.

i marched against that bill up in central london, '94 i think, - and then went to the free warehouse rave that evening, - was holding 2 ounces of speed, and bought a double-sided silver smiley blotter while pulled in at a petrol station. - nothing like that will ever happen again, - social media prevents the creation of such sub-cultures, which is why there's so much hate and narcissism in western culture, - the youth have forgotten how to rebel against their parents, and have instead become their parents... best days of my life, probably wouldn't have a house full of synthesizers and samplers without having had those experiences...

@Trololo Inc - hey, i was being hyperbolic, - and believe me my life was never boring, - and as a direct result of those glorious days of my misspent youth, not only do i have a house full of vintage audio gear, - but i was also able to retire 10yr ago, 2 months before my 40th birthday, - so it worked for me... oh, and now my 80yr old mum smokes a bit of weed with me, - times have changed. And being honest, it wasn't true rebellion, being the youngest of 4 boys growing up during the 70s and 80s, my mum and dad had already seen and heard it all by the time i hit 13. :) much love from London, take care and be well

i think they did, the sonicstate demo with the developer sounds close enough for me to finally buy a volca, certainly gonna help me get over the distress of having sold my 303 15yr ago... - wether the accents stack up and start screaming when used in succession i don't know, - still a great acid-box for £180, the built in overdrive sounds just right for the waveforms, really adds a nice bite straight outta the box, - can't see myself using the attack very often though...

Ahhhh. Volca Bass with "resonance knob going to 11". Why do I need this again in addition to my Bass, Kick, Modular, Keys, FM, Drum, and Sample (all of which can do Bass in some form one way or another) again?? The Volcas are "synths" with really only 5/10 actual synths (keys, bass, FM, Modular, and nuBass). How about (gasp!) wavetable, analog modeling, string, granular, physical modeling (not just a resonator like the Drum), additive, formant / vocoder, or EP? Or, you know? Another percussion or bass synth again will probably sell, too.

VOLCA NUBASS sounds great but doesn't sound all that significantly different to my ears than the original Volca Bass. VOLCA NUBASS will appeal, I think, to anyone that wished that the original Volca Bass had some motion record automation. The original Volca Bass however has the 3 analog oscillators that can independently play different notes (each has a detune knob) making it paraphonic. Some may also enjoy, as I do, that the lack of motion record also means the lack of stepped values (the filter and resonance knobs perform a smooth unquantized sweep). I think it's nice that Korg offers a choice, although from a marketing perspective this seems to be two products nudging each other in the nearly identical space.

Digital and analog tech both have their places, but to sarcastically imply digital sound generation is somehow the same as analog is just wrong. Digital sound-generation relies entirely on the programmer for its characteristics. The only place where you're letting physics take control over the sound's shape is at the DAC, and most DAC's are designed for precision rather than character. Logic levels are quantized values; the slight variances in voltages within microprocessors don't have an actual affect on what you eventually hear. Analog, meanwhile, has the influence of physics with every single component of the circuit. Is that better or worse? Not necessarily, but it's certainly different. You can model that behavior digitally to a degree, but it will never be as complex a system.
