While I agree a USB connection for patch creation woud be nice, I think Korg opted for a portable and cost effective unit. Hopefully a future model might include this. Once you learn the editing menus within the unit, patch creation is quite easy though. Hope this helps, and I hope you can try a Wavedrum for yourself to experience it's awesomeness :) Thanks for watching too. Cheers.

great demos & thanks, mate. these had much more information in them than the clips on korgs own website. Sounds like a great instrument - the presets really demonstrate how powerful the unit is. one criticism is that there is no usb nor midi connectivity - the possibilities for online patch creation & patch sharing, as well as some kind of librarian software, would be fantastic for this product - korg have really missed a trick by not providing a usb port.

@cinemats Considering that it uses the actual sound from the head and rim pickups as the input for its algorithms, I think the Wavedrum should really be thought of more as an electric instrument like an electric guitar, rather than as an electronic instrument like a keyboard or a sample trigger pad.

@flexfm Yes USB for backing-up/sharing would be nice. I like to treat ithe Wavedrum like another acoustic drum on my kit. One that sounds phenomenal. :)

@daynelawless I understand how it works... But the today possibiltys are much better than midi... lets talk about osc format.... or minimum usb for saving and sharing presets...

There are other MIDI units such as the Handsonic, but pale in terms of sound quality and expressiveness when compared to the Wavedrum.

@flexfm When you understand how the Wavedrum works, and what MIDI is, it's obvious as to why the WDX doesn't include a MIDI port. The variables used in creating the sound of the WDX are far more complex to be translated via MIDI. Because the Wavedrum uses the acoustic sound from the head and rim pickups as its basic input, there would be no way to drive it with MIDI even if it did have it......
