Okay so, a little context (i haven't watched the complete video yet) KoRn recorded this Album Live in studio. Meaning, instead of them recording their own Instruments seperately, and slicing them together, they performed songs in their Entirety (like a Live performance or Jam Session). The only parts that weren't were the Bagpipes in Shoots and Ladders. The breakdown that Jonathan Davis had was real. He wrote "Daddy" to address and open up about being a Molestation Victim. It is said that when he was an Adolescent, he was constantly getting Exploited Sexually by A relative who often came to babysit home (a Distant Aunt if i remember correctly). It isn't Actually about his Father. I know the title makes it seem like so. While Jonathan starts having a breakdown, the rest of the band isn't sure about what to do. Because they thought it's just one of those Illegible Phrases thing that he does in a lot of songs. That's why they kinda keep playing randomly, until they realised that it was his real reaction. Once everyone realised it, they stopped and hugged him. They kept it I guess, probably because that's how Honest Jonathan finally was at addressing something about himself that happened. In society, Men are looked down upon if they're a victim of anything. By other Men, as well as Women. It's been very hard for him to sing Daddy Live. He only did it once during the Tour for this Album's promotion. He sung it again in 2016 i think. Almost 22 years later!

FYI "Ball Tongue" does not have actual lyrics, in those parts after the "ball tongue!" chorus. That's just Jonathan Davis growling and making up words and noises, mostly under the effects of methamphetamines, and speaking of, Ball Tongue was a nickname given to Jeff Creath, he was a long time friend and manager during the early days of Korn, he was a real tweaker and when he was spun for doing too much meth his tongue hanged and rolled and looked like a ball, so they started calling him "ball tongue", even though he was a friend with the guys in the band he really fucked them over and their friendship ended.

@@sukiyu.g Jonathan Davis quit meth cold turkey, just like that, right after they finished recording the 1st album and started touring to promote it, he realized that playing every night was not going to work if he was on meth, those two things just didn't mix, so he quit it, even tho he quit meth he turned to alcohol and cocaine, specially alcohol, which it was a big part of writing lyrics for Life Is Peachy, he was drunk most of the time.

The song “faget” is about a childhood bully he had when he was at school. Anyways, if you liked this album you should definitely check out their next album “life is peachy” still has that super raw and heavy sound. There third album “follow the leader” is pretty good too. They went a little more radio friendly on that one but it’s still a great album.

F**et is about how Jonathan was bullied and called homophobic slurs in high school. He was a goth kid back in the 80s, so he listened to new wave bands like The Cure & Duran Duran and wore makeup. This lead bullies to treat him horribly and call him gay and accuse him of being less of a man. The yells of “HIV” are because bullies would call him that as a nickname, referring to the disease HIV, but pronouncing it as “hivve”. It’s also about how he has questioned his own sexuality and identity with lines like “all my life, who am I?” It’s pretty much him getting back at his bullies and condemning the homophobic super macho mindset they had. “I’m just a prettyboy whatever you call it. You wouldn’t know a real man if you saw it.”

A little info about the lyrics on this album (and all of Korns albums for that matter): They never officially released any lyrics to their songs. The singer, Jonathan, stated that he wanted fans to LISTEN primarily to the emotional quality of the songs, rather than follow along in lyrics. He even stated it was fine for fans to make up their own lyrics, based on what they *thought* he was singing! It was all about making a personal connection with the songs. So, any Korn lyric found online, or in Spotify, is not official.

because jon writes funny, i'll explain the meaning of each song (based on interviews & books) bc u seemed rlly curious! PS, most the singing is jonathan, the singer, but the guitarists will sometikes do vocals, jon done the gibberish while head (geetar) said BALL TONGUEE blind - not seeing how shitty a friend is (hence the line "next time i'll read through the lines") ball tongue - it was just making fun of their old meth dealer, the lyrics for whatever jon's saying isnt rlly it, its supposed to be gibberish, but it does sound close. a "ball tongue" is just because their dealer used sm it looked like he had a ball on his tongue need to - a relationship he needs out of, but he just cant get over the person clown - pretty much; preps at school being mean. him getting bullied for being different divine - im not 100% on this one so dont take my word on it! but, i think its him mocking his bullies who thought they were superior f-t - about being called one so much, even though he wasnt, and just confused on why call him one? shoots & ladders - pointing out how dark children nursery rhymes are predictable - abt a fake friend doing the same patterns as other fake friends (as he had learned from the previous ones) fake - i sure wonder. if you guessed being .. well, fake, youre correct lies - straight from jon; "Lies picks on those who are too afraid to be themselves. People who hide behind a conformed society. 'I want you to see the life you have disguised' 'Do you ever see from outside your fears' I am pointing out those who fear they too will be laughed at if they step outside the line of individuality." helmet in the bush - about them (the band) wanting to quit meth, but they just keep going back to it daddy - ...i think it's obvious. hope this cleared the sir for anybody who's curious :-)

This album basically blew the doors open for the Nu-Metal craze that was massively popular throughout the 90's and early 2000's... The state of the music industry was getting stale back then, but this album flipped the whole thing upside down.

The boss battle as you referred to it as, is not about his parents doing anything to him, it's about his parents not believing him when he told them something was going on. The emotion in this song is frightening and iconic at the same time JD went years and could never perform this song live. He has only done it a hand full of times. Also at the end when he is talking and crying, it wasn't suppose to be recorded, but the producer kept the tape running, all that you hear at the end was/is not part of the song its JD breaking down 100% raw emotion..

I bet you figured this out already and I haven't read all the comments so i hope I'm not repeating, but there is a good reason, as a rapper, your relating to this band. Korn is actually pioneering a new genre at this time called NuMetal, a sort of fusion of Hard Rock and Hip-Hop, both in the vocal performance and in the musicality of the instruments. Soon after Limp Bizkit, Incubus, Rammstein and many others followed suit and they toured together a lot, all unique in their own way. Korn is still the best but Limp Bizkit is a fun journey as well starting with Three Dolla Bill album! Great reaction and album review! glad I watched the whole thing!

Man its awesome that you chose this Korn album. To me personally its their best just like Undertow is to TOOL and like Adrenaline is to Deftones. Id say the same about the selftitled Slipknot album and LD.50 to Mudvayne.

Ball Tongue is about the band’s meth dealer and the effects of the drug. At the time, they all did meth behind each other’s back’s and he ended up stealing their money, hence the lyrics “You were my brother, where does our friendship end?”.

Watched Queen of the damned. It's a vampire rock music film and Jonathan makes the music and songs for it.

@@kw1ll1sreacts he does a lot of scatting which aren't necessarily supposed to form any meaningful words or sentences. At least afaik. Also I think he said in an interview that he doesn't like to clarify or write the lyrics down so that they could have multiple interpretations. So unless the lyrics were explicitly written down by them, you can take them with a grain of salt. That should clear some confusion if you're going to do their next album Life is Peachy :p

You know, my favorite part of shoots and ladders. When they were doing the merry had a little lamb. You could hear the baba Black Sheep Nursery rhyme

This album fucked everyone up in the scene when they heard it. Nothing like it had ever been heard before. Hard as fuck with hip-hop groove. This album was absolutely trailblazing.

You gotta listen to the “Life is Peachy” album bro. It’s a little more mature then this album, but it’s still a masterpiece. It’s their second album.
