Life is Peachy was actually my favorite of their albums. They had all the time in the world to work on the self titled album, but facing a dead line for their sophomore release made them really focus. Consequently the album does seem some what rushed, but having a deadline seemed to do much to clean up some of the slop present in the first album. It’s way more raw and Incorporates more from every member of the band as Fieldy’s bass is super present and David’s drums really set the tone for certain tracks. Head and Munky weren’t really left to do the heavy lifting. Jon’s vocals were extremely raw and at times nonsensical adding a manic quality that probably comes from being forced to create. Follow the Leader is where you are going to see the more melodic side of the band. That was the period of time they dominated TRL on MTV! It was a good time for being into Metal and wanting to meet girls. 🥳🥳🥳

Life Is Peachy is one of the obscuriest Korn albums, they almost never play songs of this albums in shows, not even the Big success A.D.I.D.A.S (that stands for A.ll D.ay I. D.ream A.bout S.ex) It's a very dark album, it brings more of the dark themes, and the instrumentation in it is so strange and fun, making it one of the most experimental Korn albums Check the songs Proud and Sean Olsen, two songs recorded at the same LIP era but not released in this album The song Lowrider is old on korn setlist, because since 94 Jon Davis play the bagpipes of this song together with Shoots And Ladders, like a extended intro The song Kill You is like Daddy, if I not mistake, it's about his Abusive stepmon And Twist is just random noises, the Scats, you gonna see it more in Follow The Leader I can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of Korn Discog.

This album introduced me to Korn and entirely change my life forever. I got into this album for first time when I was 5 y/o (kindergarten), I usually liked to play in my neighbor's house, a mechanic. He always played rock and metal music casettes with his tape radio player while he was working with his mechanic stuffs. When I first time saw this album, I was freaked out because how creepy the artwork cover album is (because the shadow person in the mirror). My neighbor laughed at me and then said "You wanna play this? Aight you got it" and so be it. I was creeped out because its tone but got moves at the same time because of the rhythm (with song Twist, track opener). Now I'm an adult when I revisited this album sometimes, I always remember about my first time ever encounter Korn through this album. Also, great content, Molly. Actually I always loved your voice is. I wonder if you have ever worked at voice acting or something like that. Anyway, here more suggestion of interesting alternative albums that might you want to listen and review through for your content : 1. CKY - Volume 1 I already commented about this album once, but I would like see you to react and speak about this one. This album's riff of melody and heaviness will blow your mind, especially "96 Quite Bitter Beings", "Disengage the Simulator" and "Sara's Mask". This album will always be one of skater's favs. 2. Filter - Short Bus I discovered this band through a The X-Files episode used "Hey Man, Nice Shot" track from this album. Industrial and alternative riff sound are top notch. Made by an ex-Nine Inch Niles member, Richard Patrick.

That's cool that you got into Korn that young and had the chance to grow up with their music! I remember my father blasting this album when I was a little kid, Twist always scared the shit out of me ahahahah but now I just love this record, it's definitely one of their best along with the debut ^^ You were right about the vocals on Lowrider, that's actually the guitarist Head singing ^^ and in case you didn't now, that's a cover! There are actually two covers on this album, the other one being Wicked: it was originally a rap song by Ice Cube, that's why it sounds a little bit different from the rest of the album. The band decided to record it while they were probably just goofing around with Chino: Korn and Deftones were super close back then, they played a lot of shows together and all of them were friends with each other ^^ the second track, Chi, is dedicated to Chi Cheng, who at the time was Deftones bassist: he really liked the song, so Korn decided to name it after him ^^ I can't wait to see your next Korn reaction, it will be reeeeeeally interesting: while Life Is Peachy is basically a darker twist (no pun intended lol) on their debut sound, Follow The Leader takes a completely different direction. It's waaaaay more radio friendly and rap/hiphop oriented, and it contains Korn's biggest hit ever: Freak On A Leash. I'm super curious to see what you'll think about that one ^^

You may see in the comments that a lot of people consider this one of their best, I mean yeah it's up there, but I think there are a few albums that surpass it. I personally like their next 3 albums more. Follow the leader, issues and untouchables. I even like The Nothing and Serenity of Suffering (recent albums) more than life is peachy. Not that I think it's a bad album, it's amazing! I just don't rank it as high as other fans. Self titled (debut) is my favorite, but a second would probably be follow the leader. Another thing I want to mention about Life is peachy. The song Kunt (yes that's what it's actually called lol) was meant to be more or less a middle finger to their label and radio/tv. The label was like "you guys need a radio hit. Write us a hit, but make sure it's clean!". So they wrote that one as a joke and sent it to radio stations as their first single, which was of course rejected. Oddly enough Adidas became the single and was a big hit lol

Aaah Wicked! Chino is just toooo coooool on that track 😎 can feel the energy in the room when they recorded it, I bet it was crazy fun! I remember this Korn album being really popular when I was in my teens, the next album is def the first 'big hit' though. Enjoy, Molly! 😊

Of all the 90's Korn albums, let say that first run of Korn, the one that aged the best was Issues. It was an album a bit frowned upon back in 1999, specially after the massive success of Follow The Leader, but listening to it today, after more than 20 years, it shows it strengths, even more so than the previous 3. Not to say that is necessarily better than those three (in many ways for me it is), it is only that from that era is the one that aged the better. Issues was a very introspect, personal and intimate work, a complete departure from the previous albums but specially from Follow The Leader to the point it alienated a lot of people, specially those that jumped to the Korn wagon after Follow the Leader. Also, it was released just 1 year after it and people thought it was rushed. In that regard is actually a more mature album and I think that's the reason it is stronger now than then. I know a lot of people are speaking highly of Follow The Leader, and not without reason, but that album started to be less and less important for me throughout the years to the point I don't think I have listened to a single song from it on purpose the last... decade. Maybe I'm exaggerating but it is not that far away from that. Follow The Leader was definitely a massive shift to mainstream in a good way: more polish, more collaborations, more appealing to things that worked but also more experimentation in some areas, massive budget for both the record itself and promotion, but I think the product is not that strong in retrospect. Issues is probably the album that I come back the most, even tho there are 10 Korn's albums since Issues was released. Korn after Untouchables in 2002 have been massively inconsistent, which is kind of natural in a long career I guess. I'm actually looking forward for you reaction to Issues to be honest. That's an album that will probably shock your expectations of what Korn has been for you so far.

Korn was a popular band here in Mexico, I didn't live in their time of maximum popularity (I was born in 2001), but I discovered them because of the cds that my older brothers had, today I don't listen to them often anymore but I remember them fondly for being one of the first bands I listened to in my childhood as well as other artists or groups like the strokes, the libertines, eminem, kings of leon, the killers... Great reaction.

Since I'm the only Korn fan I know, I was never sure how people felt about this album. I image that to a normal person, this album would just sound like a bunch of noise lol. But like some have said, the album grows on you. My favorite songs are Good God and Mr. Rogers. I can't believe you haven't heard ADIDAS before, it was a huge hit back in my day but I maybe I'm just old haha. Your Korn reviews have been fantastic so far! I never thought I'd see someone from a different generation (I assume) hear these for the first time and like them as much as we did! If you're rolling through these albums, I look forward to your Issues review. I think that album is really good but it's definitely not like the first 2.

It is interesting to listen to this so much later. Korn is a band that almost totally flew by with out even touching me. There is one album that I listened to during my musical awakening but it will be a while to get there. (Looking forward to it.) I definitely can see why people love Korn: They have a unique sound and are far way from any mainstream music. It is raw, rebellious and dark. On this album my favorites are: Good god + Kill you.

This entire album is fantastic. Their self titled debut "KORN" and life is peachy both touched on some darker issues and really paved the way for the progression into what the world today knows. I remember jamming to this album back in 1996 when it first came out. Great tunes on this album

'Life is Peachy' always felt to me was Korn's answer to all the critics labeling them as simply rap metal with the Ice Cube cover and the way the songs were mixed. Was likely their producers mindset too since Ross Robinson' major work between the debut and this album had been working with Phunk Junkeez and Manhole (Los Angeles) who were heavy on the rap side of things.

Found out about your channel through reccommended youtube video for your reaction of Korn's self titled reaction and i instantly subscribed. love your reactions and reviews. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but Follow the Leader is a companion piece to their self titled album( a continuation if you will) as they both have the little girl on the covers. And follow the leader actually starts on track 13 as the first 12 tracks on the physical cd of Follow the Leader were 5 to 10 seconds of silence to represent the 12 tracks on their self titled album which was cool. If you loved their first album, you will love Follow the Leader as it shows the growth of the band while still keeping that signature heavy Korn sound.

I think all those spots that were "industrial" were the guitarists experimenting with tones, effects, scratches, etc. Like how Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine would make his guitar sound like a record scratching.

There was a massive groundswell between self titled and Life is Peachy. I remember Korn going from a band no one I knew had heard of to everyone in my 7th grade class wanting Life is Peachy and it didn't disappoint. No Place to Hide and Wicked are my favorite tracks but Twist is legendary. I don't know what was in the air or water in 1996 but I refer to that year as the great blue year. Everything was moody and atmospheric especially in music. From Weezer's Pinkerton, Bush's Razorblade Suitcase, R.E.M.'s New Adventures in Hi-Fi and this album there was a lot of exorcising of emotional demons going on. So happy to see your journey through Korn's music. I know you don't really do soundtracks, but I'd highly recommend The Crow: City of Angels Soundtrack. The movie wasn't great but it serves as an amazing sonic time capsule for the mid 90's. As always, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! Thank you so much for being a Tuesday highlight for me, it's awesome to see you get so engaged with the music during your reactions too.

Thanks for the awesome comment! The 90's certainly delivered on the moodiness, that's for sure. So many amazing albums were released around the same time period as Life Is Peachy, you're absolutely right about something being in the air. And I totally am open to soundtracks, I love film too! Someone else mentioned The Crow soundtrack as it features Korn and Deftones. I'll definitely have to give it a listen. So glad you're enjoying these videos, I'm loving the journey! :)

I think the first KoRn song I heard was No Place to Hide when it was played on the radio on our local alternative station. I was like 14-15 and an introduction into metal was opened up to me. Lost, Swallow, and Good God are favorites. My friends and I used to try to sing Twist, it was very amusing!
@shahabuddin55132 жыл бұрын
I was curious about your reaction to Life is Peachy. So, let me continue reacting to your reactions ;) Life is Peachy 1. Twist The song is designed to make listeners think „WTF“, right from the git-go, it is telling the listener: "if you thought the first album was crazy and freaky, now we will go only wilder.". 2. Chi I understand why it reminds you of ball-tongue, the pace combined with the the structure of the song are almost the same, and yet the song as a whole sounds so different. I really like that song. Love what Silvera and Fieldy are doing on one front and how Munky and Head add weird sounds on the other front, while Davis is going back and forth with very soft, slow clean vocals and aggressive, fast paced, aggressive screams, and when you think that they cannot sound more heavy than on the first album, a very soft and slow bridge suddenly turns into this slow, but extremely heavy part where he screams even more aggressively than on any track of the legendary debut album. 3. Lost While this is not a track where I say, wow, great classic, but only an „Okay“-song, I love the atmosphere sound-wise, especially the guitrs, and it perfectly fits to the dark cover of the album. I like how you notice the moments where he sounds so much more vulnerable with his voice. 4. Swallow The bass line is great here, but all in all it is one of my least favorite songs on the album. Especially the chorus I find pretty weak. A fun ending of the song though, as you have noticed, too. 5. Porno Creep You are absolutely right, per definition Nu-Metal since its beginning has always had hip-hop influence, you even hear it in the first album of Korn when listening to the drum and bass, albeit not as clearly as on Follow the Leader. A nice little interlude to come down, and this interlude shows, while they stay faithful to their style, on this album they are also trying to do some things differently as well. 6. Good God Here we have the next classic and one of my favorites on this album. You say you love these build-up-bridges, that’s really typical for Korn and one of the things that got me so hooked when I started listening to them. And especially the bridge in this song, one of the greatest screaming moments of Korn. You used the word intensity, a very appropriate word to use for this song ;) 7. Mr Rogers Your intuition with the connection of this song might have to Daddy is right. I think this is a song too often overlooked. I really like the screams and again the dark atmosphere here, and just those nuances that are so different from anything they tried before, such as the snapping with the fingers. 8. Cunt This song is just very uncreative, and the meaning of the song is also about how he has an uncreative moment and doesn’t know or care about what to sing. It is designed to sound controversial and to make listeners laugh. I just feel it doesn’t fit to the atmosphere of the album story-wise, but okay, I understand, the guys are on drugs most of the time producing this album and have their funny, silly moments that they feel confident enough to put on an album know, whereas in the debut album they kept things serious from beginning till end. It made me laugh what you said about „washing out his mouth“-sound after this song, never thought about it, fun thought. 9. No Place to Hide Much better than the previous song, but not as great as Chi or Good God. 10. Wicked Since I was into Hip-Hop before listening to bands such as Korn and I had only started listening to Deftones, it was a cool Party-Track for me, again not fitting the atmosphere of the album, I believe, but the track for itself was fun. Decent, but not great. The Falling-Down-feel you get is actually because he is chromatically going lower and lower with the guitar tones. 11. A.D.I.D.A.S The abbreviation was intentionally chosen, because ADIDAS was the brand of Davis’ brand at that time, because he loved to wear those jogging suits. A song I liked when first listening to it, but it doesn’t age well, it seems to me. Still a decent song, but as typical for many of those more poppy singles, it just gets boring fast, if you listen to it too often. „I feel you can never get comfortable when listening to Korn, because they keep you on your toes“ - That comment made me smile. :) I think you have a feel that the vocals are more polished because ADIDAS is actually the only song on this album (not counting the interludes Lowrider and Pornocreep) where you have no screams, only clean vocals. 12. Lowrider You were not sure if it is Davis always singing in the previous album and this time you are not sure again, but this time it is actually Head, who, as a birthday gift, was granted to record vocals for a track of the album. Nothing special to me, but cool to hear bagpipes again! 13. Ass Itch Much like track 8, this song is about having a creative blockade, and while the lyrics are nothing special, I actually like the melodies and the way the song sounds as a whole. Good one, but it will get so much better with the final track, one of my favorites if not the favorite of mine on this album. 14. Kill you. The art cover, and the intro of this song, all of this for some reason reminds me of the movie Children of Korn. And the lyrics are so dark, the screaming so aggressively, the singing melodies get stuck in your head and stand in stark contrast with the screams, sometimes full of rage, sometimes sounding like possessed with sick lyrics as in the bridge. Kill you, another killer track, another classic, and much like on the first album, a fitting track for the ending of the album, a brutal and dark ending. Loved your Heath Ledger Comparison. The final screams of Davis on this track, one of my favorite Korn moments. At 16:55 : Love the look on your face, you just listened to the soft singing of Davis and now the next part starts, and you look like you are thinking: „Oh Wait, the name of the song was Kill you and this is Korn, I should have known that this beautiful clean singing will turn into something so dark and heavy“ ;D You say it goes in a darker direction, but I would even argue that compared to the first album, it does both, getting darker and brighter, if that makes any sense, darker the way you explained it, but also brighter with more positive or humorous vibes as in track 8 lyric-wise or from the sound or atmosphere as in track 5, 10, 11 and 12. But what I love about this album are the dark aspects in particular. Once again, one of your favorite tracks on this album is a song that is one of my least favorites ("Lost", "Porno Creep") :) All in all I love this album, it has similarities to the first album, but still it has its own atmosphere. As good as this album is, I find that the previous one (one of my big 3) was much better, and the upcoming album I find much better, too, and it sounds so different from the first two albums. I am so curious now about your reaction to "Follow the Leader".
