Korn - Let The Dark Do The Rest (Guitar Cover)

Definitely my early favorite off the album. Very diverse record, has a little bit of every Korn theme on it but I really like the stripped down sound of it. Reminiscent of their older recordings where there wasn't a million layers of guitars on it. For the most part, it's just a rhythm and a lead with a 3rd overdub that'll pop in every now and then for a harmony or something like the verse in this song. Munky's part in this song is almost a carbon copy of his same part in Falling Away From Me. That droning bend riff that goes on through the whole chorus and bridge of this song, same as in FAFM. With that said, I stick to Munky's parts from the beginning through the first chorus and then I switch to Head's parts but I did record both guitars throughout the whole song. I think that's how I'm going to go about doing the rest of the album as well. The way the mix is the lead guitar is buried in a lot of the chorus's. The mix in general is just way too loud and it really takes away from the sound they were going for with this album rather than enhancing it in my opinion. I pretty much feel the same about most modern mixes, way too loud and this album is definitely no exception.

The mix of most modern stuff makes me feel like I have mud in my ears. I know I'm a bit deaf after 30 years of live gigs but I miss the simpler times.

i keep hearing how they recorded to tape and stuff like you mention. I also play and like to think my ear is decent I just dont hear the stripped downness of anything. I actually LOVE the record tho! So much more substantial to me than the nothing. I LOVED sos, nothing had cold but the rest just felt uninspired and sort of boring to me. This album feels like they actually put some real time into it. BTW I think i asked you a long while ago if you might be interested in just messing around on some songs ive been working on for a LONG time? Its all for fun so far I have rich nguyen (bias, korn drummer new band) on one song singin and it turned out shockingly good I think although that one is more of a heavy rock track. I got some really filthy stuff Id love to send over! Currently Im awaiting to see if I can get Stephen richards from taproot to sing on a song! Like I said its not serious, prob wont ever even come out for real. Just having tons of fun. You obviously are an amazing player but also have some GREAT production skill! I can send a few mp3's if you wanna sample first? The one im working right now for stephen is VERY deftones esque hence the OG demo name was deftones lol. Im sure you prob already gave me your info I just suck sometimes and recently been going thru some health stuff that is a very good ending, just going to be a little time so im bored!

I like how you played multiple parts of the song that Head and Munky play. Solid work my friend... as a fellow guitarist I know Korn is more about rhythm and timing than a million different chords.. especially on this album.

Love the shit out of this song. My close second is probably Pennance to Sorrow, but I always go back to Let the Dark Do the Rest every time. Had no idea the album even dropped, but you know I went and had it in my library very soon after.

I like it a lot, I like how the songs don't always go in the typical Korn direction and there's a lot of homage to their earlier work. The chord choices and melodies are pretty unique even for Korn. Much of the same but a lot of little nuance differences that makes it stand out. The mix is atrocious though and really does take a lot of the dynamics out of the songs. That's the only thing I really don't like about the album.

Blue channel on the EVH 5150 mic'ed with a couple Shure SM57's and some post-EQ, that's it. That's my main rhythm tone I use for pretty much everything.
