@Jenny D The "are u ready" is fine, it's the main riff that comes after it that people like to headbang to. To me, that part is ruined by the production, because it sounds too weak, after such a build-up :)

@@JohnSmith-fq3rg to be honest, when I heard it in the 90's, it genuinely was. I didn't buy the album in middle school expecting that. We're on KZbin. We have an endless supply of harrowing music (Xiu Xiu's "Mary Turner Mary Turner"). But back then? Shit fucked me up.
@JohnSmith-fq3rg

@@kolbykauffman4180 Cannibal Corpse is more graphic, Nine Inch Nails is very personal and depressing, and even Mr Bungle's debut had a recording they made while wandering around town of some kid getting beaten by his dad (it was just before "Love is a fist" if I remember correctly.) It depends on what you were exposed to I guess.
@kolbykauffman4180
@kolbykauffman4180 3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-fq3rg you've listed great bands, obviously. Mr Bungle is one of my favorite Patton projects and I used to print out Cannibal Corpse album covers as a kid. Hell, Nine Inch Nails got me through my bleak period of heroin addiction; as did Alice in Chains and the like. But that was more of an interesting, fun type of dark for me. It was kind of another thing to hear a grown man break down cry for 10 minutes over being molested. That wasn't exactly what I had in mind as a kid. It's kind of like listening to A Crow Looked at Me as an adult. An album of a man grieving his late wife in an eerily direct and heartbreaking way. Meaning nothing you'd enjoy listening to, but more like a cathartic experience. Either way, I totally get what you mean, though. I feel ya.

@@spiffy269 they’re legit one of the best and most influential metal bands ever
@JohnSmith-fq3rg
@JohnSmith-fq3rg 3 жыл бұрын
@@spiffy269 Becoming boring and formulaic after the first 3 albums. They had two ok singles since then but they have long lost their energy and groove and it's all verse chorus verse chorus since then. They also lost their drummer because he didn't like playing to one tempo for their new producer so he could use protools more easily on the album. They couldn't speed up or slow down as the song went, that's part of why live shows always feel so "alive" I guess. So he left and the rythym never felt the same after that, and the new drummer just didn't write new parts quite the same, even if he could play the old ones. Alot about their sound is just way different in subtle ways, on paper the riffs seem similar but the songs aren't nearly as good, and most aren't worth listening to or buying the album for, atleast for me and my friends. Hearing the old songs live though is still pretty cool though.

KoRn is one of the greatest, most influential bands of all time. Plus their longevity is incredible. Their most current record The Nothing is insane. If you hate on KoRn you aren’t a metal fan.
@JohnSmith-fq3rg
@JohnSmith-fq3rg 3 жыл бұрын
@@srmitch9260 Don't pretend that you get the same stuff out of their new albums that you did out of their first few. Changing is fine, of you change into something as good, or better; SOAD really changed their songwriting significantly on Hypnotize/Mezmorize when Darron started taking an even bigger role in songwriting and singing, but it was really good. David Bowie sounded different every 5 years, but fans really like most if not all of it. Korn just became formulaic, Davis doesn't sing quite like he used to, not like aging I mean he just chooses to after a certain point, they fired their best drummer, the started locking their tempo instead of letting it flow with the song, they stopped smoking crack before vocal sessions, they worked with Skrillex.

Damn, dude, that's a near-perfect vocal performance! There's something about Jonathan Davis' voice that just can't be copied, but you got as close as anyone I've ever heard, and the riffs. My god, the riffs. Korn is one of those bands that, love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit that they're massively influential. And you've done justice to that! Well done!

That little cover of daddy needs to be made into a full cover, it sounds so good from you
@andymanson3836
@andymanson3836 3 жыл бұрын
If he had any respect for John, he wouldn't cover it. Daddy isn't just a song. It's an experience. Not written for the purpose of being edgy (like Korn usually is, but in a good way), but to tell a painful story through music. If there were covers of it everywhere, then it would lose it's meaning and purpose.
@bugatti_cuda5959
@bugatti_cuda5959 3 жыл бұрын
@@andymanson3836 I get that, but he doesn’t need to cover it for money or views, hell we can all sympathize with the man and the subjects! But a cover should never be for money It should be a tribute. And by your logic, he should have never included that song in this video.
@andymanson3836
@andymanson3836 3 жыл бұрын
@@bugatti_cuda5959 There's a difference between a few seconds long clip of him playing part of it and covering the whole song. If everybody and their brother covered it, even for a tribute, it'd lose its meaning. It wouldn't completely be John's song anymore.
@bugatti_cuda5959
@bugatti_cuda5959 3 жыл бұрын
@@andymanson3836 okay then nobody is allowed to cover hurt by nin, or Polly by nirvana, or snuff by slipknot, or buried Alive by ax7, and every other song with emotion because it loses its meaning, even if it’s happy. You see the problem with that? There are way too many songs that you can say the same exact thing about and then what happens is nobody is able to cover anything because let’s face it, music comes from emotions. But saying that you shouldn’t cover something because it’s a song about a horrific subject is just plain dumb. But let me be clear, if you don’t understand what the song is about then you shouldn’t cover it.

they kinda do, a lot of the singles have stems for people to make remix singles/eps of, it’s usually the big singles tho with the classic albums, but in recent years they’re a lot more generous giving out stems for pretty much full LPs (see you on the other side, korn iii, path of totality have stems available to the public).
