I did think this at first, too, but after judging the way the Japanese chat was reacting (saying things like "I want Korone's finger then", "she's trying to use logic", "she's the one breaking the deal of returning our fingers") and that Korone seemed to be treating it as being something you shouldn't do (like giving something only to get something in return) instead of something silly that could no longer be done, I decided to go that way. 返す can also imply reciprocating a kindness (such as in 恩を返す). It's also entirely possible I could have overthought it, and I'm wrong. Translating's fun that way. To be fair there was also a person or two saying "you ate them?"
