It shows he was and remains the most lethal scorer as a shooter the league has EVER known, including the 3point pretenders shooting the ball today, because MJ did it all against the best defenders in the history of the league. Curry doesn’t have that night in and night out. Jordan attempted 1,850 FG and made 916, 111 of them being 3 pointers. That means he made 805 shots from 2 point range. At first glance you probably are yawning. Ok, in 96-97 his FGA was 1,892 and he made 920, again 111 were 3 point makes. So the very next year he made 809 from 2 point range. Against very good defenders. He didn’t take days off. Hardly ever. Here’s the most astounding thing. The man closest to MJ in FG’s Made and Attempted that year was Glenn Robinson’s totals with FGA at 1,410 and 627 made, 90 of them 3 pointers….so 537 2-pointers. Think about that for a minute. Big Dog’s makes weren’t even close to MJ’s, but damn near EPIC when you think about it. We’ve never seen a shooter like Michael Jeffery Jordan.

The mid 80s to mid 90s were truly the Golden age for the NBA. Not just because my Bulls won 6 championships. But the competition of the NBA was at an all time high with unmatched agression. Thomas is a great example of how being super talented and ruthless is not enough to be considered truly great. He did not know how to take a loss, and his long term behaviour and being a ringleader of questionable tactics (Jordan rules) over a period of years resulted in him missing the dream team. Jordan was ultra competitive but still managed a lot of class. Some may not like him as an individual but as a sports man he had so much more class (and talent) than Thomas. Great credit to that Bulls team that they just got better and better after their first two losses to the Pistons and went on to dominate and create a dynasty with a team that never had that label before then.

Isiah made some mistakes, but he was not classless. He takes too much heat. People selectively forgive faults. Barkley was forgiven for spitting on a baby. Lebron, although hated for other reasons, also walked off the court early. Jordan show low class by insulting the City of Detroit, before they swept them. Wrong or right, Isiah felt that he was standing up for the city, which has taken a lot of unfair criticism. The Jordan Rules were about forcing Jordan to one side of the court, where there were more defenders. They also tried to force him to use his left, which he hated. The Knicks treated Jordan worse than the Pistons. To say Jordan had so much more class than Isiah is a bit much. Even if Isiah doesn't walk off early, I bet Jordan would have found another reason to keep him off the Dream Team.

If you watch the end of the 1984 Finals in Boston, the fans storm the court and Kareem had to throw elbows and push his way through the crowd to get off the floor. Sending the starters off was common practice thereafter. In the case of the Celtics and the Pistons, the Celtics bench at the Silverdome was all the way across the far end of the court from the tunnel to the locker rooms. So they would have potentially had to wade through the sea of fans all the way across the full length of the court to get there. Especially problematic for Bird who was loathed in Detroit and likely to take a few shots from fans.If you watch the video at the end of that game (which is on KZbin) Pistons fans were already coming on the court and hugging players, Chuck Daly was waving fans off the court, and security guards and police came over to escort the Celtics starters off the court. They weren't doing it just to be jerks.

Rodman didn't start winning rebound titles till 92, the year after and kept going till 98. Dumars was an all-star in 1997!!! The Pistons were not "too old" to compete, they were merely demoralized. That hug with Thomas and McCluskey says it all - they knew their time was up. The Pistons are the Larry Holmes of NBA. Between Ali and Tyson, only Celtics/Lakers and then Bulls.

I always thought the Bulls teams with Horace Grant and Paxton, were better than the later teams with Rodman and Kerr. Their records weren't quite as good, but they had better depth and balance.

No sir, for starters, Kerr was a better shooter than Paxson, Rodman was a better rebounder than Grant. The Bulls of the 2nd string of titles also had better bench. I saw both and the dominance of the 95-98 group was unreal.

The turning point for the Bulls. Finally to get over the hurdle that were the Pistons who just owned the Bulls. I remember the Bulls losing to the Pistons in 7 games the season before which was the first season I started watching basketball (being only in 2nd grade). I was jumping up and down on the couch in the final seconds in delight watching the Pistons get swept. What a run this was over much of this decade. 6 titles in 8 seasons. Summer break would start and the Bulls were usually in the finals. What a way to start the break!

It was the 80s. Every team back then was dirty and Jordan didn’t even think the Pistons were the dirtiest team. Both Jordan and Magic Johnson agreed that the dirtiest team in the league during that time was the Celtics, with the 76ers in a close second. Jordan also called the Pistons “undeserving champions” and that they were “bad for basketball”. To blame them for walking off the court after Jordan said that is demonic and evil. Is it any wonder they walked off the court?
