Your videos have saved me countless hours of trial and error. I remember some time back you mentioned an app that would keep background apps from closing on Android smartwatches. Wonder if you or your followers can point me in that direction?

Glad to help! Actually, it's in the Android 10 watches already. These watches, Optimus 2 included, are, by default, configured to shut off all background apps when the screen goes dark. You can individually turn off that feature for 3rd party apps you install by first switching to Android mode (not Sports/Lite mode), then navigating to "Optimization". It's not in Settings like where we usually deal with this issue, but in a separate app. Once in Optimization click on Clean Task. You can simply turn it off if you want to stop the app quit process for all apps, but it is recommended you leave it on and touch the screen anywhere. That brings up a list of your installed 3rd party apps, and you can selectively turn them off one by one. Now in addition to that, you may want to go back to your app drawer and open the Settings app. Navigate to the "Apps & notifications" setting and then hunt down the app you're trying to fix. Tap on Battery and then make sure Battery restriction is set for "App can use battery in background" and Battery optimization is set to "Not optimized" as opposed to Optimizing battery use. Changing it is a bit tricky as you are guided into a global settings area showing "not optimized' apps. Switch that to "All Apps" and find your app. That's where you can switch to "Don't optimize". These selections will adversely affect your overall battery life and it is a wise practice to implement these settings only for the apps you really need running in the background if battery life is of concern to you.

Yes, it's a watch, but first off, it's Android, and I am pretty well versed in fiddling with those settings. So far, things are running like a champ and even notifications I never expected to pop up are working just fine. The GaoFit app, however.... Ugh.. I hope they're working on that. Just bought this watch to replace my phone. I need it to preform a few functions and being able to use spotify is one of them. I launch it after downloading it from the Google Play Store and it looks like it's about to start then just hangs up on the logo. While it's trying to start I see a flash of blue at the bottom of the screen that (with the right settings) I can see a little bit of my email address and something about "smart lock". I looked that up and it's a Google feature. I don't seem to even have it though. I'm lost and a little disappointed with the purchase. Any suggestions?

The technique is different for Android 10 than on earlier Android versions. Two things: 1. Open the Optimization app, then CleanTask. Make sure it is turned on. Tap on screen to load 3rd party apps. Turn off Button Mapper. Done. 2. Open Settings, then Apps & Notifications. Tap SEE ALL XX APPS. Find Button Mapper, then Battery. Open Battery optimization. Change from NOT OPTIMIZED to ALL APPS. Find Button Mapper and change to Don't optimize. Done. Do these two steps for ANY apps you don't want to be closed by the OS. Remember, intense apps, like the ones that rely on GPS that will keep your GPS turned on, will significantly drain your battery, do use this technique sparingly.

Mr Ticks - I have installed button mapper and organized drawer per the video and have made sure that I ensured that they were 'not optimised' in settings after which they work until there is a screen timeout or a reboot at which point they no longer work as shown, such as in 'lite mode'. Please advise on what is wrong.

Definitely check that in Optimization you touch Clean Task, then touch the screen and turn Button Mapper off there. Then make sure the three settings are correct in the button mapper setup when you try and run it again. It should work even after switching to sports mode.

I discovered yesterday where I was going wrong - I had gone in to settings/apps and notifications and from there into 'battery' to turn optimisation off. Yesterday I realised there is a dedicated green coloured menu item 'optimisation' and when I turned optimisation off in this for button mapper etc., everything worked fine as in your video. Seems obvious now but the main menu item is not labelled - just a green circular symbol with concentric circles and a 'tick' in the middle - you learn from your mistakes!

Yes, Settings Search is a good one. Today I wanted to demo that voice commands through the Google Assistant can do all kinds of things with these watches. We've covered Settings Search many times before, and it can gain access to lots of systems stuff that's otherwise hidden. Great suggestion.

No other way I have found with the stock camera app, but you can install any 3rd part app and try it out. The watch itself doesn't appear to support multitouch so any zooming would need to be through tapping or on-screen + and - buttons, etc. Check out the app "Free Camera" as a potential replacement.

You must exclude button mapper from energy saving. As soon the display gets to sleep all apps that are not excluded stop function. If you want Outlook or Whatsapp to recognize messages in sleep mode, exclude it as well.

I've talked often about Floating Toucher, and it can be configured to bring up a volume control over any screen, even the time display. If you can do that with an Android phone, you should be able to do it with this watch. It's really a small Android 10 based phone with added capabilities of a home screen that shows a watch face. When you think of it that way, it all makes more sense. Nobody's tested the battery life on extended SIM usage, so you may be the first to let us all know!

I get 30 hours usage from my kospet prime 2 with SIM card, approx 1 hour of calls, Bluetooth and WiFi on always 10-15 minutes video calling per day and also about 1 hour connected Bluetooth music to my Audio sunglasses My software version is FAW unofficial Android 10 upgrade. I guess the newer kospet model will be better. I hope this may be of interest

Hi Mr Ticks! My Optimus2 when it goes to standby, it's not keeping the Button Mapper active in the background, even setting as "not optimize" battery mode. This is happening to all apps that I try to set as "not optimize". I already updated once when I received it and applied factory reset for three times but the issue remains... help! Thanks! 15th Aug: I had just flash it but the behavior is the same. When the screen goes off, it's killing the app even applying setting with "not optimize". I made the test with Button Mapper, Back Button and Watch Droid as well. Trying to have Kospet support. 16th Aug: Kospet answered my support request. There is a detail that was not clear. I didn't see comments about in the videos. Posting here to help other users: Menu -> Optimizaton -> CleanTask --> disable Battery Saver. Not perfect because it will be applied to all applications in the background, maybe can be improved in the next version. Don't forget to set the app as "not optimize" battery mode as well.

Wow, sorry but I don't get to dive into comments as frequently anymore. Thanks for your research and information. I've copy-pasted this in a bunch of places, but I guess you didn't hit on one of them. There's still more you can do. Here's my take on it in reply to someone else asking about this awhile back: OK guys, this is the typical fix for this problem. These watches, Optimus 2 included, are, by default, configured to shut off all background apps when the screen goes dark. You can individually turn off that feature for 3rd party apps you install by first switching to Android mode (not Sports/Lite mode), then navigating to "Optimization". It's not in Settings like where we usually deal with this issue, but in a separate app. Once in Optimization click on Clean Task. You can simply turn it off if you want to stop the app quit process for all apps, but it is recommended you leave it on and touch the screen anywhere. That brings up a list of your installed 3rd party apps, and you can selectively turn them off one by one. Now in addition to that, you may want to go back to your app drawer and open the Settings app. Navigate to the "Apps & notifications" setting and then hunt down the app you're trying to fix. Tap on Battery and then make sure Battery restriction is set for "App can use battery in background" and Battery optimization is set to "Not optimized" as opposed to Optimizing battery use. Changing it is a bit tricky as you are guided into a global settings area showing "not optimized' apps. Switch that to "All Apps" and find your app. That's where you can switch to "Don't optimize". These selections will adversely affect your overall battery life and it is a wise practice to implement these settings only for the apps you really need running in the background if battery life is of concern to you.

You can install a 3rd party volume widget or configure the "floating toucher" app to launch a volume control. Another option is to use the VLC app for video playback, as you can swipe up and down on the right of the screen to change volume and the left of the screen to change brightness. Best video player ever made.

Because of that big rotating camera head needing to move the attaching cable in and out of the watch body, I would say this is only splash proof and shouldn't be put in water. I wouldn't risk it myself unless proven otherwise at this point.

Alexa... are you spying on me lol ....Mr Tick I got the Button Mapper installed on the watch but when it goes to the clock screen it loses its accessory permission wont stay-on setting and have to go back and select it and allow it every time the clock face is on the screen there must be another setting I'm not doing to keep Button Mapper settings to stay on ...other than allow it while setting up the Button Mapper app
