Brandon Beaven he choked way harder than that. There were these moments where he just stood there during his round saying nothing but refusing to call time. Dizaster basically broke him down with the line about how he was advanced in his time but the modern era of battle rappers have succeeded him lyrically. You do have a point though. His notepad is no better than their phone. But you never see them break the phone out and hold it up asking who wants to hear the rhymes they have in it lol. But dizaster especially is bad about pulling his phone out and trying to be subtle about it thinking we won't notice.

I'm sorry this shit made me love Canibus more than I did before, and I'm not really a "true fan". His insults are so odd, nasty and well-worded, and of course the voice. He looks like the minimalist here. No rapid fire run-on crescendo tirades, no screaming and yelling, just seething anger, really dark humor, the same way I love Prodigy though he has no complexity but relies on very specific word choices. His punchlines are more serious, less cartoonish, funnier imo. and all in that voice that is one of the most distinctive and intense in hip-hop history. Everything sounds harder than Diz who is yelling. He came through with the 3rd verse. Yes Bis "lost" because of the ending, but in other circles if you're yelling your lyrics it's a cheap tactic. You could argue that Bis is leaning on his voice too much though, a couple of duds in the 3rd verse. Diz's is so academic though, "researched", like a damn tabloid article on Canibus. I can't agree with some of Diz's points, acting like Canibus at some point wanted to be mainstream. He was on 4,3,2,1 with legends, but had the most uncompromising style of anyone at the time. Never changed his style to suit anyone else's track. Did 100 bar freestyles, etc. - so all the outrage just feels false to me. Don't tell me he did 10+ albums and an 1000-bar rap in the same style he's always had as a ruse to cover up his "mainstream failure". Some modern patterns are more complex but he has never been about "flow" anyway, it seems like he's more about "information", but seeing hip-hop as evolution isn't that simple, or that Bis's style is "old" or subspecies of a more evolved rapper? You have to say the same thing about Nas then, that what, Kendrick is more "evolved"? Or that he's a "bad shoulder to lean on", a jealous asshole, not helpful to his colleagues in the industry? I always assumed that when I heard him rhyme, that he was an extreme-minded introvert, not sure that's an angle to use. That he didn't do anything for hip-hop? We all know that isn't true. I don't know man. He still is inspiring as he's the archetype of that style. Diz acting like he's resurrecting a legend just because he's battling him, smiling and shit, I can't call it, part of the show I guess. Props to Diz for the speech at the end. Diz had lines, the MJ one, the 2 L's was clever, "dog to sleep", and the ape line was Canibus-ish as was the Kenyan Dwarf line. Obviously the notepad is so out-of-pocket in a battle context that it is an automatic L, but it seems to be part of a breakdown he's having right in the middle of the battle, don't know why he sabotaged himself that way, or admitted defeat. Just lost heart....but we all know he's a complex figure with an odd history. You would've had people on either side of the verdict had he just spit it off top - the crowd would've been hanging on his words like the first 2 verses. Third verse off the pad had some lines but people were talking over it, worst of his three verses. This adds to Canibus's twisted legacy in my opinion. He's this shadowy corner of hip-hop, an alien mascochist, flagellating himself. Hip-hop has an amazing range of characters. Props to both, I don't want a crazy war here, just challenging some groupthink here with another perspective.

LOL he actually was and is a great freestyler I've heard him in action way way back rhyming about things around him better than anybody does on these modern tiktok video's etc. His whole stuff about "praise Jesus" too he believes in some Alien wisdom magic stuff, new age kind of thing. So that confused me too. He hasn't rhymed like he did way back for many years plus he looked high on painkillers, bad dislocated shoulder in a sling (it hurts trust me)... Tired and messed around on his own tour at the time had to cancel one of his last shows before that and yet he still turned up like an idiot, in bad condition. He just wanted the cash that's why he didn't cancel like he should have. The notepad thing seemed too planned... Wouldn't surprise me if Dizaster asked him to go out like that for extra cash because the world knew how Canibus had the old school rap battle crown in the underground... I doubt it would have been a straight body like that if Bis was simply in good physical health alone... He's too sharp and precise to just mess up like that ! LOL Weird to watch still.
