Known for his ability to mix his written verses with freestyling effortlessly, Diz's unique style has helped him stand out among the top tier. Back in Toronto to try to reclaim the chain for a second time, Diz goes up against Pat Stay to see if he can take the throne once again.
By far one of the most feared battle rappers in the world, Pat Stay has earned his reputation as a heavyweight. The Nova Scotian emcee has one of the largest fanbases in battling, pushing him to achieve his current status as KOTD Champion. I had to come back to this to pay respects for Pat. Dude opened up my eyes to the battlerap scene. This was the very first battle I've watched and I was hooked. The way Pat controlled the crowd. The way his punchlines landed. The smoothness of his flows and deliveries. The way he could flip Diz's lines on him. Pat is a fucking legend and the news of his death is beyond heartbreaking.

Diz is versatile as fuck. The shit he spits is on some other level that most emcees don't even touch. His wordplay and metaphors are nasty, and his freestyle ability makes him dangerous. His only drawback is his delivery. He crams too much shit into one round and to do it he spits his bars really fast, which is fine when you watch it at home and can let all the nice shit he's saying sink in, but I imagine he gets slept on alot live because people have a hard time keeping up with every thing coming out of his mouth.

This was a testament to how well rounded Pat was! Did the long rounds which is Diz thing and what Diz wanted and Diz stumbled and had some slips and Pat was pretty flawless. Adding to that not only was he clean three rounds Diz really only barred out aggressively and fast flowed. Pat was flawless while mixing aggression bars swag and comedy! I am a huge fan of Pat Stay. He is a quality battle rapper, with a great sense of humor, and knows how to play up his appeal to the crowd... But with that said, Nobody, and I mean NOBODY can match Dizaster's masterfully intricate word schemes, technical lyrical complexity, and genuine knowledge of the english language in rap battling. It was a close one, but Dizaster should've won.

For Dizaster fans: WHY DIZ LOST *Disclaimer; I'm a die-hard Diz fan Diz's Attributes -> Negatives 1. Hero/Villian-> Diz continually prides himself on the anti-hero, villain position in any battle which makes his opponents, who are self proclaimed 'villains' but have honest intentions, crumble in his presence: i.e. the anti-hero, Deadpool. Pat's overall persona is of righteousness and confidence which defeats the antagonist every time: i.e. Wolverine 2. Crowd reaction-> Diz gains all momentum from the belief of the crowd and their trusting and backing in his demoralizarion of his opponent. In this battle, the hero position was clearly held by Pat even from Diz who seemed to be a bit intimidated and in awe of Pat and that, in turn, weakens Diz's confidence. 3.Preconcieved Decisions-> With Pat being the title holder and the poster boy for KOTD, there is a lot of momentum and sponsorship riding on him winning this battle. With the possibility of their being ghostwritten bars for Pat(which is common among top tier battlers just as top tier music artist), he has the automatic leverage from the KOTD staff and overall fan base. His background trumps Dizasters and causes fans to subconsciously back him with him being from Nova Scotia and Diz being from L.A. but claiming Toronto. 4. Offense/Defense-> Diz was no doubt, not in attack mode in the battle. His ego was weak and his comebacks more so reinforced Pat's general dominance, making Pat's defense that much more stronger. Dizaster's attack patterns usually consist of the unravelling and deconstruction of an opponent's universe but here we see Diz in a mindstate that is threatened by the integrity of Pat's presence. Dizaster feeds off the negative emotion of his opponent. As you can see, Pat gave no reaction to Diz except through rebuttles which mostly remained on point and added heavy shock value. 5.Style in Lyricism-> It is commonly agreed that Diz has a higher vocab and infrastructure of syllables, wordplay and nuances in his delivery, not to mention an outstandingly animated performance, but in this battle he severely lacked in style and cadence. Interestingly enough, if you observe Pat's performance it almost mirrors Dizaster's motif exactly. He degrades Diz's background, culture and even his stage performance. Overall, he uses the subtle techniques of Diz's stage performance to sway the crowd and integrates them into his own style. But Diz still had more bars. So, Diz lost due to lack of confidence, lack of support, fanboy antics and lack of entertainment and style, all of which he rides on plus all of which unconditionally belong to Pat. Class clown loses to the jock. Diz even made the comparison in this battle of him and Pat being Ip Man to Bruce Lee which is fair. Diz has a raw, tougher style which is technically almost impossible to beat but Pat used that style in a more simple way to gain the people's hearts. So Ip Man vs. Bruce Lee? Legend vs. Symbol? When you subtract the skill of technicality and get right down to public opinion, crowd favorites always win.

Still a great battle watching years later! I would say 2-1 Pat Stay, but I could see others giving it to Diz too. I mean Diz did have more bars, but a lot of them didn't hit that hard. Pat brought some dope bars too, and also better stage presence, humor, and just better style IMO. Diz spits the same high energy flow the whole time, while Pat switches things up and just takes control of the room.

Peter DeWitt I'm surprised there are so many comments calling Dizaster trash. I know it's an opinion but it's still hard to believe. Especially on the battle where he notebooked Canibus by round 2 and finished off his remains in round 3 -- prior to which Canibus apparently called out Diz first and after which Diz mentioned in the interview that he himself was _holding back during the last round_ -- there are still people going on and on about how Canibus has a more lucrative career than Diz, how Canibus "in his prime" would have blah blah blah and so on, and the haters do that in every battle Diz participates in. In truth, every time someone argues that another rapper beat Diz, said rapper "beat" him because of style (Pat using the friendly joker persona to appeal to the crowd and counter Diz's angry demeanor, Cassidy staying calm and throwing an imitation of Diz's style back in his face, etc.) and not substance; in terms of sheer lyricism and speed, Dizaster is basically untouchable at this point. I can't think of any other battle rapper that can rhyme so long, so much, and so fast.

Even *WITH* the first round stumble, Dizaster had soo much in that round that was several levels more intricate than Pat Stay's first that I still gave Diz the 1st. Pretty much the same thing happened in the 2nd. The 3rd was super close. In my opinion, Diz get the battle 3-0 or 2-1.
