I hope they do what FFVIIR did, which is to reorchestrate all the music from the original game, with full orchestral arrangements replacing the now-cheesy electronic music, and making them more "epic." I think a lot of the ambience music could be expanded and improved, it's mostly white noise. But the main themes and liet motifs could really end up being bangers. Even the battle music could be rearranged to fill out the music space.

If the plot and/or characters are changed, I dont trust Disney, or the aspyr writers to not to screw it up (even without the controversial author working on the game) I'm fine if they expand on side quests, or even slightly on the main stuff, but they better not change the fundamental story I like the original gameplay, but that's not what made the game great, so they can change it as much as they like You bring up resident evil 2 as a good example of keeping everything the same. hard to say because its good but at the same time real time combat and stances to learn and change up mid fight and force powers more open to free flow would also be grand and give you more of a skill ceiling to learning how to fight either way is great but i always thought Kotor with the jedi academy combat but add some of that arkham spiderman vibe where you have block parry riposte dodge jumping crouching control of the swings and force power in the moment and the ability for lightsaber battles to have it where they can counter your attack and you have to counter and and so on until you can find an opening. some quality blaster combat would be a lot of fun and taking a note from survivor on platforming could never hurt along with blaster and saber combat.
@Delod3 жыл бұрын
The game should be remade with updated graphics and systems to support that update. It should also have the ability (mostly because it's been done in other games) to have either Turn Based or Real Time combat. Turn based mode could be like it was before in the original game, and that is known to most of us. Real time Combat mode would need adjustments however, I feel like the stats that dictate how Turn Based works wouldn't really translate as well as you'd think in Real Time mode. I think all stats through the game would need a tweak to account for the different pace and method of combat. If I had to choose one or the other however, Real Time although appealing, wouldn't be as good as Turn based here merely because that would deviate more towards unknown territory with KotoR vs. sticking with the story as we know it (that being your combat is part of the story too). I think the most important thing in regards to gameplay however is creating a more open world rather than all the loading screens we experience in the original game. I know that's just a limitation of the technical aspects of what Bioware was working with at the time, but I can also see that breaking the game in terms of its enjoyability if it's not appropriately fleshed out. The other thing alongside that is making sure the areas we explore are less linear and much larger than what we got in the original. This would open up more side story additions that they could do if they wanted to, and more importantly, open the possibility of adding in cut content which you've already explained there is definitely cut content worth having. My biggest fear if they went the open world route/added content, is it coudl dilute the feel of the original game's story pace and I certainly don't want that either. Another request would be to finally have a voice actor for Revan, and make sure there's male and female iterations of such. I get wanting to immerse yourself into the game and pretend that it's you talking (with you reading in your voice or really whatever voice you choose), but I feel like that could actualy benefit the story overall by having a well read set of lines for Revan. To top that, make sure that there are Dark and Light side readings of lines too (I know this is a pipe dream here), that would add gusto to the character as a whole and also add a bit of distinctiveness to your character than before (where all we got was either a blue or red background and a look change). Lastly, I think another major thing they need to update is character customization both of the character itself, but of armor too. I would love to see the old armor styles, no doubt there especially if they get that HD look, but I would also like a hell of a lot more options in that realm too. Part of what draws me to an RPG is not only the story but how my character looks in that story too. I want my character to look badass, sound badass, and do badass things while saving the galaxy and I honestly felt that way when I was a teen playing this game originally. I wanted this game so bad I traded in my PS2 with over 2 dozen games JUST to get enough money to buy a new Xbox and KotoR. I love this game and I'm so happy it's being updated!!

Combat is gonna be like fallen order or tfu, not gonna be turns, a remake is a remake, that means complete changes, not just graphics,also mechanics, everything in kotor is great, but outdated, people want new stuff and since this is disney and this is a remake that will canonize this story (or so it seems?), even the story will change, hopefully in a good way, as i think we all want to play more as Revan during the mandalorian wars, or as Darth revan, not just the character with amnesia that sees flashbacks all the time until he finally remembers, hopefully those flashbacks are playable and hopefully we can play as more characters, and i don't care if we don't get to create a character or if we don't have to make choices tbh, if things are done the right way, i'm cool with changes

Thanks for the explanation of all of that, awesome to hear your takes on this game's future. I think the turn based system worked well in the original, especially because you have two others that you can prepare pre and mid fight with rather than witcher's combat style that I think could only cater to a solo experience. After thinking about it especially with today's tech they could make the turn based system really good looking and fluid feeling, the combat pausing when switching, the transition of switching to the next person and what not. Maybe even add a camera shifter for a wider view or a zoom option once you've dialed in your attacks, the original did lack a lot with camera views and angles, possibly could add a first/third person view. All while still allowing pausing to setup more attacks. Also now that I also have a good reference for what a remake is, I'm just thinking about the RE2 remake and how incredible they made that same game from the ground up and it's blowing my mind imagining what they could accomplish with a kotor remake.

It honestly wouldn't make sense to be rebooted into canon. First of all I don't mind that anyway as long as it's done with care. Secondly, considering how much they'd have to change to do that almost renders the idea of remaking this game at all pointless. Obviously some changes here and there are going to happen and that's fine. Change isn't inherently bad and in fact can result in some excellent new additions. Perfect example is the Resident Evil 2 remake, I've loved the original since I was a kid but now I hardly ever touch it because the remake is just so much better. It took chances with certain ideas and characters and an amazing game was crafted as a result. Imagine for instance if we got to visit the planet Sleheyron, which was planned to be in the original game but never made it. It's the planet where Yuthura Bann is from and if we could visit that planet first before Korriban it would add new context to her characterization because we'd already be familiar with her home world. Just one example of how changes with this game could be a great thing if done properly.

I hope they will be using this remake to make the Revan story we all know and love canon. As far as changes go I am sure they will get rid of the turn based combat. It’s something we all know and love as this was still a popular game mechanic at the time but things change, the game industry and norms change. I think that they will change the gameplay to be closer to Mass Effect where there are turn based elements like stopping the action to make choices as to using biopics, giving teammates commands etc but not like it was in KOTOR. I am still in a wait and see stage, I want to be excited but honestly I don’t wanna get my hopes too high. What I do hope for is that it is at least successful enough for perhaps a remake of KOTOR 2 with all the content that Obsidian had to cut from the original.

Plus they could of had us be able to send Kaevee the Padawan found in the ruined Jedi enclave on Dantooine to Khoonda to meet Master Vrook and become his Padawan alongside Ahrnell the force sensitive mercenary found in the crystal caves

Now, interesting wording on Console Launch Exclusive... which I hope we get word on some time soon... PC is typically not considered a Console, so it COULD come to PC at the same time... I hope so... like, I have a PS5, but FUCK exclusivity, it's anti-consumer bullshit and you should NEVER defend it. You aren't that company, you stand to profit nothing from console exclusivity. If anything, with PS5 having a massively smaller market share currently (no small part due to supply shortages), it's a detriment to the channel as it reduces to number of people who could be pulled in to this great series. We're already here to watch you, the diehard fans, the new fans are what can propel you and this console exclusivity cuts an entire portion of the pie off from the fandom.

Don't worry, I'm not defending the game being exclusive. As a matter of fact, I'm making an update video on this tomorrow!
@TheWholeGrainBread_Real3 жыл бұрын
The reason why many think the "console launch exclusive" is because many are saying it's launching on PS5 then PC later. That's the reports that are going around which makes many think that is what the "console launch" part means in the exclusive. Also, the fact that it's a partnership deal between Sony, Aspyr, and Lucasfilm Games seems like it says a lot too. There were also Tweets saying that "this is not an exclusive, it's launching on PC too" makes it seem like its going to be a console exclusive. There is a lot of evidence pointing to a console exclusive but it also seems very muddy at the same time.

Honestly I'd like the choice to switch between turn-based and real-time combat. It's been done in games before, and I think it would be great to allow players to play how they want. It would also likely sell better to a wider group of people, as some people simply despise one form of combat or the other and would refuse to buy it due to that. I know quite a few people like this.

The game without a shadow of a doubt should stay the same in terms of story and characters, music and so on. For me I’d like to see added content more specifically in the area of character customisation and cosmetics like clothing and what not. Some other aspects I’d like to see implemented would be things from other Star Wars games that I personally found great, such as lightsaber customisation almost similar to the fallen order and I would also love it if our character had a voice and had the ability to speak like mass effect or the old republic sort of thing.

I agree that, If this is going to be canon, then likely Disney will want to change/adapt some things, but it's still way too early to tell. As for your question, ideally I'd like both. A more action RPG type of combat to get with the times, but also have the old style of turn based ability queueing type of combat. In the end, it'll probably depend on the engine, and how easy it is to do one or the other.

I’m kind of split on this. Part of me loves the D&D turn based style. But another part of me is interested in seeing what they could come up with. I’m also wondering if they change the combat to action rpg will that limit the amount of actions you can perform. Because as much as I like FF7R the abilities and combination of materia was scaled down in order to match a more flowing level of combat. So will they have to get rid of things like the different builds you could make with your Jedi in favor of making combat flow better.

Regarding the gameplay, I really am unsure. On the one hand, I am somewhat nostalgic for the turn based combat, and considering all the skills in the game, a strategic system like that could be beneficial. On the other hand, gameplay was not the strength of KotOR even back in 2003. People did not really play the game for the fun and engaging gameplay, they played because the characters, story and world were so engaging. I cannot really imagine turn based combat in a AA or AAA flagship-type game for a 2023+ audience. Considering how the Apeiron fan project wanted realtime combat, I would not be surprised if the combat ended up being more like Jedi Fallen Order's. Maybe you could have some sort of rotary wheel or tactical screen like in Mass Effect to choose which item / power / skill you want to use, have some hotkeys and blam, good luck?
@barkasz60663 жыл бұрын
Finally some clear talk instead of reactionary bullshit. Also a great example of a remake is Mafia: Definitive Edition. It's the same characters and the exact same story, but they expanded on the original, fleshed out characters, changed a couple of missions so it makes more narrative sense, etc. You should really pick up that game, it's wonderful.

I'm not sure about the gameplay honestly. I could see them doing something like mess effect or fallen order though I know bioware isn't on the team. The only thing I'm thinking of is are they going to keep the need to switch characters to use their latent abilities over your own, or are they going to stream line it. Character customization felt like a heavy part and I'm sure people would complain if they didn't keep that. You could argue that games like skyrim deal with that in a way or even fallen order where you more pick your combos and force powers so I could see them doing something like that. I think it would be a cool experience to have that more play your fight out rather than selecting an option. I'm excited regardless. But you know what this really means. We get an HD Ebon Hawk. 🤤 and for those of us who like model kits there's going to be some cool kitbashing.
@charlestownsend92803 жыл бұрын
I'm happy for them to change a few elements to update the game, like fixing bugs, adding cut content and even a few things that they would have liked to have done at the time but couldn't, updating gameplay (like combat, maybe have an option for classic and modern), updating customisation, updating the graphics, updating the controls (like for the racing section), making relationships available for all characters (I don't see why female revan can't have the same relationships as male revan and vice versa, it's the 21st century), etc, just general quality updates. When it comes to canon if it is to be canon it would have to be changed to fit in with the rest of canon. If you want it to be canon you have to have the story changed slightly and if you don't want the story changed slightly then it won't be canon.

Any rewrites to "make the story fit" are both oportunities to fuck up the story and windows to more rewrites that aren't exactly needed or made for the better. In other words, at best prepare to have chunks of the story rewritten by new authors (and considerng that we live in Disney era SW, it should raise all the red flags) or have the story modified to the writer's heart's content. Expect Juhani's sexual orientation to become her main character trait, expect Tatooine to be replaced with Jakku etc. 2. It would essentialy be taking another work of art, putting a new logo over it and saying "I made dis". KotOR is an integral part of Expanded Universe, bringing people to the franchise (without being a movie) for around 20 years now.
