one of the components is cotton wool? that's how it looks to me, and these pieces of paint look like colored cardboard. and it must have some binder, some kind of dehydrated glue which is then activated by water and the cotton wool and cardboard are also soaked in water and swell and then some sticky stable mass is formed. that's why you let it stand for a while so mixed up, to connect all the components? and then once applied to the wall the mass dries and sticks to the wall? tell me if I am close or do I have a vivid imagination
