This looks lovely! I'm getting ready to take this task on in my tiny house! How is your wall holding up?? Have you hung anything up on this wall???
@BrookeAnn11 ай бұрын
Do it!! 👏🏼 it’s holding up great! I have not hung anything on this wall but I would imagine it would be okay! My kiddos have gotten juice splatters on it and when I went to wipe, some of the joint compound smears. This is because I didn’t seal it. Sealing it would prevent/protect from smears and stains! Best of luck 🫶

I've done this technique on 3 huge walls now and I can 100000000% confirm that the best strategy is to take the tape off immediately after you lay the joint compound. The compound is viscous enough that it will hold its shape even completely wet. I've actually never seen anyone try to take it off dry, but good to know it's not completely ruined if that happens!
@amberslilrose39543 ай бұрын
I sort of disagree! It whipped the edges or each brick up so each brick was pointy all around the edges. Which made filling the “grout” with compound so much more difficult.

Wow! your project came out beautifully. It looks amazing! I am going to attempt to do this in my pantry. A small-ish walk-in in my new house which is an old Scottish manor house from the 1800's. The pantry is an utter shambles and I cannot wait to fix it up. There are holes in the wall, cracks, bumps, and all sorts of uneven textures. Hope I can pull it off as well as you did. When you lay out your tape I normally use a level and mark my lines. Then I buy 5 gallons of joint compound. Then I use my mud pan and my 10 inch knife and put the joint compound on. A wall like you have in the video would take me 10 minutes are so. While it's still wet I pull tape off.
@kelligium4 ай бұрын
Do you add any water to the compound?

Very nice! I especially like the texture and the way you accentuated the arch on the doorway! 🙂 Are you still loving it?

This is exactly the video I needed. I've went through 5 other videos explaining this technique. All of which had super annoying, loud music throughout the entire video without pause, Even while speaking..... but at first you had me like 🫣 "noo don't do it dry" 😅 great job 👏🏼 👍🏻
@drhuby62926 ай бұрын
I've done a wall in my dining area and 3 upper walls of a bathroom (lower walls are wainscot), and I can say for absolute certainty that you remove the tape while the joint compound is still "wet". Otherwise, I love what your wall looks like!
@kodijones5224 Жыл бұрын
hi can I ask why you use acrylic paint for the colours ? C Ould you use silk or satin paint?
@charmc41528 ай бұрын
A satin paint might give it a bit of a sheen that may make it look less like a rustic, aged brick. I'm not sure what a silk paint is.
@GilliMarieMoody11 ай бұрын
AMAzing arch detail. And… ripping the tape off when it’s dry makes the bricks look more authentic which has been my biggest hangup with the plethora of KZbin videos I’ve seen. BTW, did you get a chance to seal it all? Just one question: Why go back in with more joint compound instead of more whitewash? Thanks!
@1WKR10 ай бұрын
I've been researching for months and can genuinely say your video has given me the exact steps I need to go ahead with my project. Instead of bricks I'm going for stone. Thank you for sharing. You've done an amazing job 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 One question because I want a very textured wall do I just put more on ?
@LauraGarvey Жыл бұрын
Love this! Can you tell me if it feels like real brick?
@brittanyhuggins8411 Жыл бұрын
I did this to a large wall in my living room, as well as to a fireplace and did it for my backsplash in my kitchen. You aren’t supposed to let it dry all the way - like you said, you need to peel it off when it is halfway dry!! Otherwise, you end up with it tearing like yours did!! Looks great though!!
@amberslilrose395411 ай бұрын
How does it hold up??!

@brookeAnn I have a panel brick wall, I was to use this technique but don't want to white wash. Then the brick will come out, still the dark color with a lot of white over. Do you have any suggestions?
@charmc41528 ай бұрын
Emily Freyble Home channel did a faux brick fireplace wall (video March 2023) where she used the brick wall paneling material that comes in large sheets that have a darker red brick color. When working with that type of faux brick material, people are cutting the half bricks on the edges to fit the "bricks" together so the wall doesn't end up with an obvious vertical seam. When they've finished it with the "schmear" they mainly focus on filling in the spaces between the bricks where the mortar would go (on KZbin, people may refer to it as grout lines, but tile has grout, bricks use mortar - similar but different). The goal is to cover any obvious seams and nails to make it look as realistic as possible, but then you can go as heavy or light with whatever you use for the "schmear" to get the color you want. So with the red tone bricks, if you want it darker, you'd just use less of the whitewash or joint compound when you are finishing it or wipe more off.

Dude. Obviously protect adjacent surfaces. Apply compound with a larger say 8 to 10 inch mud knife. Pull the tape when it's setting up but never completely dry. Mix white paint with glaze or water for white wash. Many ways to make this easier on you and less time consuming. Looks pretty good in the end. I think it could use more contrast. All in all nice job.
@johngrayson8431 Жыл бұрын
I like what you did but I would like it better if you had painted the bricks a little darker. It doesn’t have quite enough contrast for me. GAYLE G. Great job though.
