Jeez. Its real simple guys. Popular music started in America and so its culture is American. So if you sing in English, you will sound American or at least mid atlantic. Thats it! Ive noticed this criticism comes from some Americans, who recognise that its part of their culture and therefore are pissed off that Brits have become equally good (and some cases better) than them. So its not a deception, its just how this music sounds.

I was 13 years old when this song was climbing the American Top 40. I was so upset when it hit #11 or 12 and didn't hit the Top 10. The chorus of this song with all their voices harmonizing together is so uplifting.

I still love this totally charming song. It brings back memories of the '50s and '60s, when I'd fall asleep with the transistor under my pillow. Those pilots of the airwaves seemed like friends to me as well, there in the dark. You too? ... In the summer 1982 I was 13 years old and I remember that being the last year for this awesome era for music. Commercial music changed around 1983 with Madonna and Michael Jackson ushering in a new era. Also new wave music started to become popular around that time.

Regardless of the charts , when a song remains so blissfully honest & true , for as long as this one has (44 years) , you know it was a great song . Well written , outstandingly well performed , & with harmonies that send it all of the way over the top , & into our souls . A few songs do that . This one still does . Manfredo I love this song so very much!!!! Charlie Dore has such a beautiful voice! This voice reminds me of the great voices from Karen Carpenter, Sade and Carly Simon. The singers nowadays have voices that are absolutely boring. They have nothing special!!! I’m always so glad when I hear songs like this on the radio!!!

While in collage(Hunboldt State University 83-84) I would call my favorite DJ Joan Marie -local radio station in Arcata, Ca...the radio station was small and I could call and talk..and even run into her in town...it was small town especially back then. She found this song and I said I was trying to make Charlie Dorn a house hold name ...I loved this song and never heard it played much. Joan would deticate it to me and play it every few days... I'll never forget that time..and Thank You Joan Marie. I told my son many years later the story and this song...he loves it now...and says he plays it at times too.

1979 second year high school. It was the international year of the child. Roller scatting was fun and so was life. cruising around the neighborhood on your bikes with friends and not being home on the weekend until the sun went down. it was the time of talk-back radio and song requests and most of all. The music was good music even bad was good compared to some of today's. Such was life.

When I listen 2 this song, it brings me back 2 my childhood, being at our camp listening to the battery powered radio, because we had no electricity there, and it was all I had. Very few kids today can relate to this song in it's true meaning. I enjoy it. I realize I am lucky to know what's it like to have almost nothing. It makes me more appreciative of what I have.

I remember hearing this song on one of those cheap fake rack systems Kmart sold under, believe it or not, the brand name of Pilot. My girlfriend in high school had one of those systems and it was a joke. It was fastened together in m the back but made to look like a rack in the front.

Is it not amazing that hearing a song can time warp you back to an earlier time in your life? For me this song takes me back 30 years to when I was in Belize for two months. It was a popular request on one of the local radio stations. Thank you for the post.

I was driving today from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This song came up on some oldies station. I had forgotten about it. But it is a really good song. Nice to hear these songs once in awhile among us old-timers.

wow I stumbled upon this song ..I forgot about it ..until now I remember listening in the year 79-80 brings back memories when I was 16 and in jr high school in florida hanging out with friends ,,I never knew who sang this song till now....cant believe its been about 40 years now !!!whered the time go ..miss the simpler times though!!!!
