Dan Harmon nails a lot of things in a raw, real way without seeming like he's trying to impress me. It's not necessarily a coherent explanation of a given thing, but it's the most understandable, if that makes sense.

aswani69 Not really. He made a joke at her expense. She should be prepared for that if she's constantly interacting with comedians. He only "continued with the thinnest veneer of faceetiousness" for like 1 more sentence and then she put on the water works and he stopped and just told his story. Besides, she suddenly seemed perfectly fine 2 seconds later and was talking about Disney again (and really, at that point of obsession how does the word "freak" upset you that much? If I loved something that much and someone said I was a freak about it, I'd say that was accurate.)

audiotecmark he wasn't being a dick. He was making a joke at no one's expense even going as far as to say it wasn't meant to hurt anyone's feelings. She is clearly over sensitive and shouldn't be doing what she's doing as she's putting herself in the line of fire.
@KidMoon23
@KidMoon23 9 жыл бұрын
audiotecmark Yeah, but he didn't say that so your example means nothing here. She works within the comedic world, things are slightly different there, brutal comments are more acceptable. How she could be that sensitive and have her job makes absolutely no sense to me. His joke was so light that I just can't believe ppl are making such a big deal about it. Like, there really is an oversensitivity to things nowadays.

At the 45 minute mark Dan is right about the influence on creative types. Because the executives have micro managed every single spec that they have the idea burned into their minds that they have the formula for success. Being in the radio business I've heard older jocks complain that they can't choose songs anymore or being told what they can talk about really bothers how they try and convey their personality. New schools teach this way because it's all about pleasing the advertisers because anyone would jump at the chance of being a disc jockey, or writer, director etc. The people are a dime a dozen the money isn't, and when he says how the execs are fearful of the art being seen as dangerous I've heard you management say things like this. It has to be controlled or no one gets payed.

She had a melancholy moment thinking of her dead father who took her to DIsneyland, yet you insecure fools won't allow her right to be sad for a few fucking seconds? She didn't disrupt the show, Jaime Fox is a producer and co-host. It wasn't a bad comedic idea, but the attempt fell flat and backfired; it's no wonder he's primarily a writer and _not_ a performer. And his groveling, servile fanboys are beneath contempt. Can't you like or dislike something without sounding like a fucking Trump brownshirt about it?

Not really unreasonable unless you're a sociopath. For whatever reason she was affected negatively by his nasty and imo completely unfunny jokes (saying this as a huge fan of Community btw), any person with any common sense will get that if you've affected someone negatively the right thing to do is to let it go and change subject, Dan just keeps going throwing salt in the wound by basically calling her a freak and making a joke that her dad probably doesn't love her, probably making a joke about his own insecurities but being too much of an immature and selfish manchild to own up to and deal with his own insecurities so he gets off on hurting others instead.
@Moltenstardeath
@Moltenstardeath 2 жыл бұрын
@@SourceChan That's not what happened. He was trying to make a joke at her expense, hoping it would get her to like him, i.e. he was joking with her, not at her (betting she would be game to laugh at herself). He tried coming up with an extreme example of why she likes Disney so much, and his preposterous example just happened to be correct. He literally did apologize and admit he didn't even think it was funny to begin with. Then he brought it up again, obviously doing a caricature of himself as a villain redoing the joke again, but spitefully (saying in a mocking voice "my dad loved me," not throwing salt on the wound, but making the joke that he'd intended to hurt her to begin with). Obviously it would have been better if he had apologized and moved on and left it there, but he was likely insecure at his first attempt leading the girl to cry and he did a bad job at poking fun at himself, which she instead took as him bullying her some more. To be fair, she was totally justified in her response of being offended, but probably not justified in bringing it up in later interviews and mischaracterizing Harmon's joke as an angered and intentional sleight against her.
@Moltenstardeath

On the Hitler bloodline thing... My family has a genetic predisposition to addiction and, after middle age, senility. Our older relatives either partied/self-medicated themselves to death, or are straight crazy (multiple personalities, delusions of grandeur, and mania). My brother and I, after lengthy discussions, each decided to do the same thing as the Hitler family- kill the bloodline. We want to spare the world and the human gene pool the horrors of our family genetics. Perhaps, someday, we may choose to be parents, but he and I both have said that we would each adopt. We may be able to be decent parents and pass on worthy things to the next generation, but our genetics are not one of those things. As it stands, I am 31 and he is 29, and we are both virgins (at least by the Clinton definition- oral doesn't count). As I see it, it is the only sure way to save the gene pool from my terrible genetics. I hope others seriously weigh whether their genes are truly worth passing on before they reproduce. Think about whether the things that you like about yourself are due to your genetics, or in spite of it. Then, even assuming you generally like yourself, do the same thing for the aspects of yourself that you dislike- because of genetics, or in spite of it? Generally, the things I like about myself have little to do with genetics, and the things I dislike (like my addictions to caffeine and nicotine) can be linked to my genetics (my family is genetically predisposed to being addicted to something- drugs, sex, gambling, food, etc.). If you are like me, then you value humanity, and feel obligated to enhance the gene pool as possible, even if that means no long being part of it. You can still improve humanity by teaching others, building something, innovating/inventing, or just generally being a contributing member of society.. You don't have to reproduce to help a better humanity continue on. My brother and I have chosen that route. I hope the gene pool is spared more crazy addicts. Please don't recklessly or selfishly reproduce. Seriously consider the future of humanity. P.S. Please don't get me wrong- I'm not advocating anything involuntary in regards to crazy addicts not reproducing. Any enforced genetic screening would be fucked up, and would be easily and quickly corrupted. Nothing involuntary. Whether or not you reproduce is up to you and nature, but I would ask you to seriously consider the decision.

i don't ascribe to the idea of eugenics, my one eyed tadpole might end up being the father of a fantastic composer with a drinking problem that's alright by me, we're all gonna suffer, some more so than others even absent of genetic predisposition. An addiction to caffeine and nicotine are drops in the bucket compared to your dramatization of the human condition.
@quantumperception

Those are just the two addictions I picked up before realizing I should stay away from addictive substances/behaviors. I was mid-teens when I started tobacco and caffeine, and still haven''t broken the addictions, but I'm fine with that. I just want any new ones.

Reference the episode with Larry Miller where he's doing a high school show and accidentally names a beloved teacher and the way that he died during a standup act and finding out why his joke died and couldn't stop laughing all the way to the car because it just hit so hard the wrong way. That pretty much happened in this piece and he's confused why she's so pissed because it was just a bit that wasn't supposed to hurt her feelings because he assumed she had a better upbringing than that. I feel bad for Jaime... She's a huge Disney fan and I don't think Dan understood he was taking a giant dump on something that was/is very special to her. I believe he intended the tone of a playful jab but it came off as a personal attack. She recovered fast though and Samm tried to cover.
