I'm just a Protestant white guy from the South, but there's a vibe about Jewish/NYC humor that really strikes me as being the heart of all American stand-up. I guess it goes back to Vaudville and the early days of radio. Then 3 Stooges through Mel Brooks' and Woody Alens' heydays. I mean, you have the Irish/Catholic influence of Carlin, too, as well as the whole "When Stand-Up Stood Out" crew out of Boston, also Irish/Catholic, but you really appreciate what being sort of the underdogs in the past fostered in both stand-up comedy and Marvel and DC Comics. What gives? And look how a pre-Internet movie like "Mr.Saturday Night" gave rise to a common catchphrase on FaceBook and KZbin...."You see what I did there?"/"I see what you did there".
