Wow, thank you very much, that is probably the first comment that I receive about my video quality. It is very helpful as I invested a lot in a new camera, lens and microphone lately

I set this up a couple of weeks ago using exactly the same PC as you have. I put the wake up command as part of my morning wake up schedule so the PC automatically turns on when it is a work day. Perfect 😁

That’s awesome! 😁 Sounds like a perfect setup to streamline your morning routine.. Glad it’s working perfectly for you!

I tested this Wake On Lan a few days ago on 2 desktop PCs. It works for both BUT it doesn't work anymore for one of the 2 (the older one) if the power has been cut and then restored. In fact, I use a Zigbee-connected plug to cut the power to these two PCs to avoid power consumption at night. The WoL only continues to work only for the most recent PC.

A weak CMOS battery could reset BIOS settings after power loss, so replacing it may help.

@@KPeyanski Thanks for the tip but the battery is good, recently changed. The problem probably lies elsewhere, in the motherboard's management of Wake On LAN.

Liked video. I used your video showing rpc shutdown and have three computers setup in home assistant with wake on lan and rpc. I have daily computer. Then other 2 turn on at specific days according to work I need to perform. Plus I can let them run to perform updates and not have to go back downstairs to shut them down.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad the video helped you get Wake on LAN and RPC shutdown set up for your computers. Sounds like you've got an awesome workflow going-no more running up and down the stairs just to shut them down! Any other automations you're thinking of adding?

Is there any benefit to this over the RPC Shutdown add-on? That one uses IP instead of MAC address and allows you to set a custom message and delay. I used to have fun with friends on that one. "Windows will.shut down in 30.seconds due to excessive problems between the keyboard and chair" Messages of that nature. This does seem way more straightforward to setup. For Windows and at least Ubuntu you may have to turn this in in the NIC settings. I believe it's on by default on Windows but I could be wrong. Obviously all the BIOS stuff still needs to be done regardless of OS For Windows, open CMD prompt and type below to get MAC address. GETMAC

RPC Shutdown is for shutting down windows PCs only and Wake on Lan is used to wake all kind of devices from sleep or shutdown state. So they are completely different things
@JoshFisher5672 ай бұрын
@@KPeyanski Thanks for the clarification. Looking at the RPC add on most of it hasn't been updated in 2 to 4 years so going to look into this as a replacement. I doubt I will use it on anything but Windows but you never know. My Linux machines just seem to run with zero issues. I wish IP KVM's were either cheaper and secure or less expensive and secure. The cheap ones like NanoKVM can't run PiKVM which is a must for me. Trusted open source only for a device like that.

Any ways to it without lan?
@KPeyanski2 ай бұрын
What do you mean wirelessly or outside your home network?
@denmaakujin91612 ай бұрын
@@KPeyanski wireless. My desktop is using WiFi and long lan cable would be problematic Maybe something that kick start the the pins? Or wifi to lan 😂
