When this show aired, I was a 8 yrs old, and it truly blew my mind and opened up the world of cooking and asian food to me. I'm so happy I can find episodes on youtube that are still helpful and entertaining. After decades, I finally bought a bamboo steamer and was excited to return to this episode especially.

My KZbin viewing session had become very joyful thanks to KQED - Martin and Jacques. If you can bring back Julia!

I miss his show. Glad it's on KZbin. Used to watch Chef Yan as a kid in the late 80's. I also remember Jacques and Julia. Public Broadcasting is awesome. They have a lot of great cooking shows today.

Dim Sum is a relaxed lunch. In most of our US restaurants they try to fill you up and move you out, but it the authentic places in San Francisco's Chinatown, for instance, businessmen sit for hours drinking tea, discussing business and snacking. It's a break from the office and you still get things done. Chicken feet are very tasty.

Fact; the Egg Tarts are originally from Portugal ~ . Portuguese Macau covers Macau's history from the establishment of a Portuguese settlement in 1557 to the end of colonial rule in 1999. Macau, Hong Kong & Guangzhou are in the same region and they all speak Cantonese, and Egg tarts are very popular since the colonial period. Egg tarts are commonly sold in Chinese bakery in addition to Dim Sum restaurants. The traffic signs in Macau are in English, Mandarin & Portuguese. When I had a 10 hours stop over in Lisbon between Rome & Marrakesh in 2017, TAP , the flag carrier offered it's national pastry with a sandwich! I also make sure I tried it first thing I find a bakery. I also bought freshly baked 1/2 dozen at Lisbon airport to go :) there was a long line but it total worth it, so good!!!

My family love dim sum, sadly there aren't enough dim sum restaurants around here in the UK, so I have to make my own. Which isn't such a bad thing. But I do love to eat dim sum at a restaurant, then you get a lot more variety. Thanks for the video, I remember watching yan can cook many years ago, it made me feel old lol

I took a teaching job in Guangzhou in 2009=2013 so that I can enjoy Dim Sum all the time :) When I knew it's time for me to return to the States, I had Dim Sum every weekend to enjoy the last of it. Dim Sum is serve between 7am -11am and 3am to 6am for the night owls as snacks. Luckily here in Southern Cali, we have 2 good Dim Sum restaurants and I can also buy frozen Dim Sum anytime now at Chinese markets.

Dim sum, probably the hardest thing to make in Chinese cuisine. I'd prefer to order in chinese joints.
