Kramer moving Bette Middler for her safety in her hospital bed is similar to the scene in The Godfather, when Michael moves Vito when he realizes that Sollozzo had the security guards that were protecting his father removed from the hospital so he could kill him. I wouldn't be surprised if they were spoofing that scene.

At the time Michael Richards (Kramer) couldn't remember how to sing the song's melody correctly. Midler knew one of the writers and agreed to do a guest spot. The other possible celebrities for this episode were Julie Andrews, Cher, Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett.

I was just thinking about this the other day. 😄 How Bette Midler is one of the few special guest stars they ever had on Seinfeld. Other TV shows in the 90s would do it all the time just because the show was a hit. They made it work here but it’s still kinda weird having Bette Midler in scenes with George Costanza.
