Well I'm terribly sorry to hear you were most likely a victim of abuse and didn't know it. I'm not saying a child doesn't need to be disciplined or told no sometimes, but a little psychology as opposed to the fear, fear, and more fear approach comes a long way, you know. Especially later in life. I'd love to see a sequel with the kid in his teenage years; I wonder what Mr. Kramer's strategy for raising an adolescent son would be. Given his exemplary parenting in this scene, the communication between him and his son would most likely be non-existent at that point as the boy would have developed a fear response to his father which could lead to him just keeping personal problems away from him... not healthy!

@@laracroftvideos no offense, but that is not necessarily abuse. I have a five-year-old nephew and he definitely pushes his parents buttons all the time. He literally has to have his name called more than five times before he realizes that his parents are talking with him. That’s not me saying he’s a bad kid, on the contrary. Children at that age typically are incapable of listening until there are consequences. It seems that we always learn lessons the hard way. Act like a brat and you’ll suffer the consequences. Actions have consequences. You don’t discipline your offspring the chances of them getting away with it increase and they won’t learn anything. Once that discipline is inherent in the child, they will usually think twice about doing it. I grew up with that look and immediately knew when I go to far. Because of that discipline when I was a teenager I would think twice before doing something. My group of teenage friends would do stupid stunts like push grocery carts into the middle of the road. I refused to do it because I knew that that was a stupid idea and would get in serious trouble for it. The other boys did not care, so what does that mean?

Billy: "Did you remember to bring the chocolate chip ice cream home?" Dad (mimicking Billy): "Yes, I did remember to bring the chocolate chip ice cream home, and you're not getting any of it until you finish your supper!" Me (watching this): "Should've kept quiet about the ice cream, or at least lied to the kid that you didn't get it. Billy probably wouldn't have bothered going to the freezer."
@kgunitkeese173 жыл бұрын
Agreed. If I was in that situation I would’ve said it differently. I would’ve said something like “yes, I did remember to bring the chocolate chip ice cream home, but that does not mean that I actually brought it home. It all depends on whether you finish your dinner or not.”

Billy didn’t feel like eating his dinner because he was struggling with Joanna’s absence, it’s quite common with kids when something is upsetting them they don’t feel like eating their dinner at all. Ted should’ve really had a proper chat with Billy asking him what was wrong instead of just forcing him to eat his dinner and having a go at him for getting the ice cream out. But then he too was struggling because of having to balance with looking after Billy as a single parent and working at the same time.

Wrong. Billy was testing the boundaries. Children are looking for boundaries as security when their world turns upside down. He knew what the expectation was and he tested it.
