And he still proved himself great as a child actor when he was 12 as Molly Ringwald’s smartass younger brother!

When I first watched this film I was single, no family no child. I thought that she was awful for abounding her child how could she do that?! Now when I watched, I have a family and a child, I so empathise with her and completely understand! How she has struggled with unhappiness and mental health crisis! She went away so she comes back better for her child! It gives impression that the other outcome for her would be giving up on her own life... how traumatic would that be for a child 😱😱😱

Please… a mother never leaves her child behind. Nobody asks to be born so when you decide to bring a child into this world you come second. Otherwise, don’t have children.

LA PRIMA VOLTA CHE HO VISTO QUESTO FILM NON AVEVO VERAMENTE CAPITO QUANTO POTESSE ESSERE DIFFICILE ESSERE MAMMA, ESSERE PAPÀ E NON ESSERE MAI PERFETTI!! ORA SONO MAMMA DA 18 ANNI, IL MIO COMPAGNO MI HA LASCIATO 3 ANNI E MEZZO FA, ED ORA CAPISCO

When i first saw this movie, I was in high school and thought she was so horrible to leave her son (at the beginning of the movie). Who could do that? Now I see how desperate she was to escape her profound unhappiness, to the point she actually states if she goes back in the apartment, she just might eventually jump out a window. How would that benefit her son? I don't have children, but I have felt that emotion where you're stuck somewhere with someone that you can't get away from fast enough (her husband). It's a desparation that didn't take into consideration her child, but I still understand it.

My generation and I think she’s a coward. Imagine when that kid is a teenager. That wimpy lady will break 🤣 Def in this rare case, the kid should def stay with the Dad

She felt plenty. Including feeling ready to return after abandoning her son and using him as leverage against his father.

I did, too, but at the end when the mother visits him and changes her mind, he’s probably relieved. He and dad can go back to making French toast in the morning , bedtime stories, and trips to the park. And dad no longer works a job owning him, took a $5000 a year pay cut (a lot in 1979) to just work a job his assigned hours and go home.
