I agree 100%. Well the thing is that this is Kramnik and Polgar here, chess legends so it's amazing hearing them talk about Magnus. For others, like on chess24, they cannot hope to overcome Magnus ever, so they end up just saying "Wow hes so good" and then get stuck on that.

Its so funny because what Kramnik tells at 6:30 is exactly the thing which happened afterwards in the game of Magnus which they were covering. Fabiano was just better all the time, it was extremly difficult to play for Magnus, he was down in time and he played one perfect move after the next in seconds and managed to have a very safe draw, even with a slight edge in his favor. Thats so incredible, his endgame is so strong

Both Nakamura and Kramnik have said it and I am sure many players also think this, but Magnus has a good feel and intuition for "the best move" where it's more of an instinct than actual calculations for Magnus. He makes these moves in seconds lol This is why he is the Mozart of chess because even Mozart was coming up with things that were beyond his own comprehension! This is what truly happens when you study this game to such a great extend, that you don't even know what you are creating, but you know it's beautiful!

I was visiting Wijk aan Zee with a friend back in 2004 and somebody from his chessclub was playing Henrik Carlsen in the Amateur part of the tournament. Magnus was playing in group C and that day he won against Sipke Ernst in a Caro Kann. It was such an amazing game, it created a buzz in the crowd which apparently reached Henrik as well. Henrik then offered a draw to my friend's friend in a slightly better position so he could be with Magnus. The game ended up winning the briliancy price that day. It is still my favorite game by Magnus.

@@lolololololololol11 Yes that's the game. Magnus afterwards showed his game to the audience and if I remember correctly he said Sipke shouldn't have accepted the knight sacrifice, although he thought even without accepting the game was already probably lost for black. I think the critical mistake was 17: ... c5 without bringing the queen back first. It caused the black queen to be cut off for the defense against the kingside attack. At the time this game was played I believe the position after the knight sacrifice was reached only once before, but back then the white player did not find the right continuation like Magnus did and that game ended in a draw.
@Rimpelmans
@Rimpelmans 3 жыл бұрын
Magnus also said he knew Sipke had messed up the move order, so he knew 17: ... c5 was wrong, but he didn't know the refutation, so he had to find out over the board what was wrong with it. I think it is amazing he was able to find such a stunning attack with a knight sacrifice over the board. Especially at that age, he was still a kid back then.

If only the people who try to flag Kramnik in Banter Blitz so they can brag about how they beat a legend, would have an iota of the grace and class that is demonstrated here, the world would truly be a much better place. It's very sad that chess is infiltrated by people of such low character. But on the flip side, it is comforting that at the top there is beauty, and mutual appreciation, and respect. Hopefully that filters down to some extent.

Sometimes it's not the numbers, but how you play. Federer has some magic in his touch, in his mind, that allows him to create beautiful, stunning, unexpected shots. Every one is worth the price of the ticket alone. Another example: if you know F1, Villeneuve vs. Arnoux 1979 is a duel that is more remembered than the whole of most F1 championships since 2013 (worth remembering: 2016, 17, 18 and 2021). Villeneuve himself won 6 races and died Young before having a real chance to demonstrate his talents and "farm statistics", but he is universally regarded as a legend and well above a lot of multiple world champions...

The existence of VASTLY STRONGER chess engines is the BIGGEST and most DECISIVE reason why younger players, and players in general , are getting stronger at colossal speed , if we compare to anything in the past. Who is the best teacher? The stronger player is. Who is the strongest player? The modern chess engines of today, which by the time Magnus came to the scene, chess engines were already very very powerful and beat any GM. What we have today are GODS in the form of artificial intelligence at playing chess. A chess engine chan show you more than many of us stop to think about

@@Gush27 Even when Magnus was 16 and younger, engines were available AND they were always excellent for training and practice, and for studying positions and patterns/tactics. NOTE that NO ONE SAID that ONLY ENGINES are the reason. You are putting words in my mouth. You are arguing vs something that no one claimed. Yes, talent is always a needed element to get to the top But to be the best you must learn from the best and train with the best and challenge yourself vs the best. Engines help in that sense.
