I think Krampus could become one of those movies that's more popular in time the same way as The Nightmare Before Christmas or Beetlejuice did. Now those ones have gained huge fanbases and collectors of memorabillia. I love Krampus and would love a sequel. He's one of those characters you enjoy going down the rabbithole of and finding more out about. Plus, he's fun for younger audiences to grow up with the same way our generation did with Gremlins. Great video and happy holidays

Was not expecting this special deep dive video today but I am so here for it! I also love your dance intro. I actually forgot about this movie existed but I appreciate this deep dive to remind me of it. Of the things that you mentioned that I really love is how much practical elements this movie used. It's pretty rare to find shows and movies that use mostly practical effects over CGI. But anytime we get projects like this, I always appreciate the use of it. This was such a great and unexpected deep dive. I hope you and your family are having an amazing holiday! Congrats once again to 30k subs Kylie! Also when you spoke german reminds me that I really want to learn the language

I watched Krampus for the first time last year and loved it! It kinda has a cozy feel and I just loved Toni Collette, of course. I had watched some behind the scenes on the DVD but I didn't remember all these practical effects, it's so fascinating! Also, congrats on 30k 🥳

I’m sorry, but that little dance in the intro is adorable, haha. Also, Satan told me that you’re his favorite child! I haven’t seen Krampus since I was 17, but I loved it. Michael Dougherty has a real talent when it comes to making holiday horror movies. Even better, he touches on the legendary figures and rituals behind these holidays. Krampus obviously touches on the lore of the shadow of Santa, and Trick or Treat’s character of Sam is a brilliant nod to the festival of Samhain.

Ask your German friend if they heard of "The Belsnickel" (a.k.a. Kriskinkle, Beltznickle, Pelsnichol). This is a similar dark companion to Santa not unlike Krampus. The Belsnickel still exists in Pennsylvania German Culture.

I first watched "Krampus" when I was 13 or 14, and it became one of my favorite holiday horror movies of the 2010's, alongside "Better Watch Out" and "Rare Exports". Yes, it is pretty scary and intense, but it's also heartwarming at times. Also, there is some Joe Dante vibes going on in the movie, which I find that interesting as a "Gremlins" fan. And I haven't watched the "Naughty Cut" of the film, only the PG-13 cut. Not only it is one of my favorite holiday horror movies of the 2010's, but it is my favorite horror movie of 2015. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones as well!🙂✨️🎄🎁❄️

Merry Christmas to our Blair Cult! What an unexpected Dance you got?! 😭 Really appreciate with Michael as artist who draw his sketches to tell his story for the script. I’m for one as an artist who love to draw stories like that, and it’s better communicating as visual standpoint than putting out words to say. Wearing Krampus mask is really shock to me! Hmph… “working on the sequel” where’s the sequel Michael?😤 Yea, he also directed Godzilla sequel. Fun fact: Michael has three dogs, so he borrowed the idea from their personality to king ghidorah (Three headed dragon).

I was expecting the intro music to cut to death metal or something for some reason lmao “so krampus is… my brother I guess?” hahahaha the balance of practical and vfx in this is rad. yeah there’s some seriously athletic filmmakers out there- I was watching something with bts footage from scott pilgrim and the cam op was on wires flying around for the action scenes. unreal lmao. it was all a dream was such an untouchable cliche that I feel like it’s come back around to being usable if you’re creative about it. krampus is fun. it’s not the greatest christmas horror but it has its moments.

I watched this film for the first time a few weeks ago.. while I didn't personally love it I respected it.. the winter storm vibes were elite and I do love the cast.. Toni is the best.. and I'm a big fan of David Koechner but I can never take him seriously doing any semi-serious role lol, he'll always be Champ from Anchorman and Dan from Waiting to me, it is what it is.. and Allison Tolman is a great actor although I've only seen her in Fargo Season 1 which was her breakout role.. didn't know it was inspired by Amblin Entertainment films but that makes sense.. Casper is lowkey my favorite Amblin film but there's some heavy hitters from Amblin so it's close.. I also always thought this film was from like 2005-2007 and it has vibes from that era.. it felt like a 2006 film to me.. Hope you're enjoying your Christmas.. I turn 40 next month and this is hands down the warmest Christmas I've experienced in my lifetime.. the high was 63 degrees which was the warmest Christmas in Cleveland since 1982 and one of the warmest here on record.. the high last year was 14 degrees lol.. it's so jarring..

Festive deep dive! Krampus is usually told as a story to kids in order to get them to behave is what I was always told, like how Santa has a naughty or nice list I think Dougherty has said that the main kid in the movie is kinda a self insert with his being close to his grandmother. Also I’m with you on the ending being that the family is forever trapped in blissful ignorance. Also, I think Christmas happens around this time of year to coincide with the winter solstice and co-opt the holiday the pagan’s already celebrated and it’s just become what we know it as now. Cool story: last year, my horror cult friends and I took a Christmas vacation to New Orleans and got to participate in a Krampus Parade! We even had our own horns too! They go all out for it too! Creepy carriages and all the Krampus costumes looked so real and spooky! Love that there are still esoteric Christmas traditions being kept alive! Thank you for the Christmas deep dive! You’re looking festive af either that elf onesie! especially with that dance intro hahaha hope you have a haunted holiday!

I’m from Finland. We have Joulupukki (literal translation ”Yule Goat” or ”Christmas Goat”) which was before more like Krampus with horns, punishing kids who behaved badly. But it transformed in time to the same Santa Claus/Joulupukki that’s known everywhere in the world. If there’s other finnish people in the comments niin tulkaa korjaamaan jos olen jotain tietoa kirjoittanut väärin 😂 There’s a finnish Christmas-thriller movie called ”Rare Exports” and it has similar vibe as the movie ”Krampus”. I recommend watching it!

Ok Sants’s little, I mean tall helper. Here is my take on the ending of Krampus The little Krampus ornament and the relationship between Max and Omi. I believe Omi was the little girl in the animated story and that she experienced the same thing with Krampus the Max goes through in the movie. Max gets the ornamental at the end and Omi understands that Max learned and experienced what she went through in hating Christmas. Lesson learned families are not perfect but make the best of it and don’t be the one that is the problem. I may be totally wrong. But that’s my take. 🤔🙂

I think I had the same experience most people had when this came out. It's okay, but also kinda disappointing. When you hype your project up as a homage to other great and much-loved classics in the genre(s), be ready for some disgruntlement when it doesn't quite hit the mark. It's a difficult task to get the blend of horror and comedy right, and by throwing Christmas in the mix it adds yet another level of complexity, which they failed to convey successfully in the Krampus story. Gremlins is by no means a perfect film, but I'd rewatch that over this, in fact, I did the other day, as it manages to nail all three, IMO, whilst also having buckets of charm and charisma that most 80's movies have. Krampus isn't very funny, or scary, and it's a mean-spirited Christmas movie that has no redemption arc. I think I did give it another chance, and apart from appreciating the impressive VFX, I just don't think it's worth revisiting again.
