A few tips for the viewers: No need to buy those expensive net pots. Instead you can use discarded (used) and clean k-cup pods. Just cut some slits in the bottom and sides. Instead of the expensive clay pebbles, get a bag of calcined clay. This is the stuff that they put on ballfields, put in kitty litter, and use in auto shops to soak up oil spills. If using kitty litter be sure to use the type without any addictives or chemicals. Instead of construction paper to block out light and to prevent algae, use empty chip bags or empty brown paper bags. If you wish, you can have shiny side out when using chip bags. I have heard that some people like to use aluminum foil. You can use thin masking tape to cover a vertical area of your grow jar. Then to check the roots, just peal it to peek and reapply.

That helped me a lot. I love seeing the roots. I've grown basil in the window and my green onions, I have no problem with alge, but it wasn't for long-term growth, just rooting and planting outside. I was scared of eating the plant with a risk of alge poisoning. This video helped .

The first thing I always check is the pH. then ensure the water temperature is below 85 degrees or there won't be enough o2 for your roots and they could develop root rot.

I grew for 14 yra and I learned some things new from you. Hydro is the best way to grew anything atip for you and air bubbler from fish tank shop does wonders I really like the airponics setup that produces a mist in the space between the plant cup and the surface of the water. I also love the ebb and flow system because I can automate the system with a simple timer and a pump. Love and kisses Bob

You have to look at the fertiliser packaging. Honestly most lettuce will take 3 to 6 litres each. You're best with a larger jar. And make sure that they're painted black or covered with fabric or something to block the light to the water. Or it will grow algae.

thanks, just starting. i wonder can there be something more for this system to stimulate nature (like some minimal structure for roots since growing in soil vs water is so polar opposite) to make it even better, or might be just too minimal min maxing because it seems too good to be true in itself :p

Hello friend. I grow houseplants in hydropony and I do it as much naturaly as possible. To avoid green water, the perfect algae eater is Daphnia magna. Iam not sure if it can survive in such a concetration of nutrients, as I dose it weekly. Another possibilities to oxygenate the water if we want to avoid electric oxygenating or using H2O2 is to add moss ball, or just part of it . This plant is super slow growing but the best oxygenator I know. It will not consume nutrients but it will produce tons of oxygen. To lower PH is possilbe to use peat moss as bottom of jar. I know this wont be Kratky anymore, but its more natural way. Enjoy guys.
