That´s about how knife attacks in real life look. If you are the guy with the knife you want to inflict as much damage as possible, and short quicks stabs and slashes are the best way to do so. Every additional stab can potentionally end the fight or at least makes your enemy weaker. I mean sure you can look for an opening to go for the vitals. But you can do so while continuing stabing, so might as well do it.

And that's why 99.999999% of all self defence training is bullshit. I'm guessing that's why he always goes nuts. If someone is genuinely wanting to kill you, they are going to be pretty nuts. And virtually every self defence depends on people acting in ways that one trains, which they absolutely NEVER do.

Now there's a discussion that interests me. I love Catch as Catch Can. I have trained in both Catch and BJJ for many years. As a younger man, I trained for some time in a nihon Jujitsu style called Budoshin, and later at another Japanese jujutsu dojo that taught a bastardization of several nihon styles. Worlds of difference between the jjj styles and BJJ & Catch wrestling. I'll probably throw German Jiu-Jitsu into the discussion as well since several of my students hold black belts in that style.
@ali09gaming58

im no way an expert in any arts just a beginner, but i tend to think catch wrestling is abit more diverse in their submissions than bjj or jjj as a submission can be taken from any opportunity ascending your way, it doesnt require a perfect position like bjj but on the other hand jjj seems more effective than bjj in terms of spontaneity of submissions without a perfect position. I watched numerous vids of sakuraba analyze and destroy gracie bjj fighters, but i guess it can also come down to the practitioner himself and not just the art, wouldnt mind to see you make a vid of these three or more disciplines and how each favors some situations where as others favor another.

Run if you can, defend if you can't, and if you have to defend, stay sharp and hope for the best"

I love your videos, but I'm not sure this one is as on point as the others. I can't vouch for others, but I had a pretty decent Krav Maga instructor, he didn't teach moves like this, (fancy poses and shit) his top advice was if you can run, run. What he did teach me however, did actually save my life a couple of times. Woo for usability over style! I realise you do this for lots of martial arts, but it's usually bad instructors as apposed to bad moves. (I'm probably slightly biased though) Anywhoo, as always your professional stabbing techniques are always on point. Pun intended. ;D

Run if it's the safest thing to do. Keep running if it works and you're gaining distance from your attacker. Run if you're able to. Run if it's only you that you have to worry about and not a loved one who can't run with you. Run if you've trained how to disengage from someone who's grabbed you, holds onto you and is mincing you with the blade. For everything else, I hope there's a plan B, C, D, etc. Great video showing the dangers and inherent risks in anything combat related, it's just that everything is case by case.

Unfortunately there are many schools of “Krav Maga” (I use the quotes here to indicate that these schools teach useless techniques and supply misinformation) who pretty much make up their own techniques which wouldn’t ever work such as what you demonstrated. These techniques don’t actually represent the system of Krav Maga so much as individual schools. As a practitioner and instructor of Krav Maga I find it unfortunate that this is such a common thing. Additionally, there are examples of techniques that actually were part of the mainstream Krav Maga system but were not all too effective. These are also techniques that people will point and laugh at (I myself even find them to be hilariously bad at times) but these techniques have all been “renovated” in a way to be more effective and practical. Keep in mind that Krav Maga is a relatively young system and like anything else it was not perfect in the moment of its creation (it’s still a work in progress).

Where I train Krav, we do sparring at least twice a week. We practise the techniques and then add resistance and aggression to the scenario to see if the technique works, if it fails we look as to why the. Either work on the correct way or change it. Some techniques I’ve seen on KZbin that claim to be Krav Maga, are a horrendous joke!! Common sense plays a lot when practising martial arts or self defence systems, and if a technique looks shit and weak, then test it out. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I am fully in agreement for realistic training, (o don’t mean actually stab each other, more use a white t shit and have an opponent attack you with a marker pen type thing) or even with the hard foam battens actually swinging it at the bloke, if they don’t move they get a klup! It’s a trialed and tested system. As shadow broker said, club dependant.

This isnt the krav that ive learned and am learning. Ive never seen any of these 3 techniques. Even if they were actual krav techniques which they are not, the practicioner isnt following the basic principles of krav which are extremely important, they are the foundation. Krav is a system that emphasises principle over technique, not that technique isnt important but that it is secondary 2 the principle. I am not saying that krav is the end all be all, best of them all, nothing is, i believe that you should practice as many systems as possible and be as well rounded as possible but i do believe that it is the best, most well rounded single system that ive seen anywhere. For example, bjj is an amazingly effective system but it focuses mostly on the ground which is where you dont want to be in a real world violent situation so although it is an excellent system, it does lack the tools to handle a situation where grappling or ground work isnt a good option and that is ok, it is the best at what it does but you should also learn some good striking to build on that outstanding foundation of bjj. I am not saying that krav is better than bjj at grappling because it isnt, the 2 have completely different goals. No 1 system is the best in everyway at everything, but i think that krav is the most holistic, and its principles set it apart as well. I am no expert but i have a fair amount of experience, i am a green belt in krav, i boxed for a while, some mma, ive been in a fair amount of actual street fights, ive been in a knife fight, and ive witnessed tons of fights. And in my opinion krav is an effective system, and the most holistic effective system that ive seen. Normally i dont like to just put myself out their on the net like this but i believe that this video misrepresents krav. I am not familiar with the poster or his videos or background, i will go watch a few, i just think that this video could influence viewers and turn them away from an effective system that they could learn and protect themselves and loved ones with. Now that ive written a book in the comments section, i will say this, i do not agree with the representation of krav but i do agree with the premise of the video. In every gym, dojo, or system there are practicioners who may have alot of training but no real world experience and are a bit delusional about the effectiveness of themselves or a certain technique, i cannot tell you how many people ive met that say"well ill just do this or do that and that will be the end of it" for example, ill just give them a good hit or kick to this spot or that spot and theyll drop like a bag of bricks, and that is a dangerous way of thinking, they are usually very wrong, the human body can take a serious beating, i suggest that everyone spar as much as possible and try as many systems as possible. This is just my 2 cents, i am not an expert, i am just a guy with some experience who wanted to comment on this video because it mis represented something that i care about. Thank you for reading my book and have a great day.

MrEnric98 sorry eric, Ive been meaning to reply, just been busy, trying to get my small knife business off the ground. Your questions have no easy answers, there are countless variables and the variables of each situation are important. I will give you some very general responses but it depends greatly on the specific situation. #1 train in 1 or several self defense, mma, martial arts systems. Krav, boxing, bjj, mma are all great for self defense, and the ultimate being a couple that compliment the others weaknesses like bjj and boxing and or krav, so you are efficient on the ground and on your feet, i suggest adding krav to whatever you do, it doesnt take long to learn compared to other systems and it brings a unique and effective skill set. Spar as much as possible and test what you learn against a resisting opponent. I cant stress to you how important it is to get involved in martial arts, not only will it prepare you to protect yourself and or family (1 of the most important things we could ever do), it will also make you better in every aspect of your life, and it will help you make important decisions in situations like we are talking about, it is a life long journey that is so amazingly rewarding, the way of the warrior. Also, train in other aspects of defense such as pistol and rifle training. Ok, on to your questions. #1 STREET FIGHTS- i am assuming that by street fight you mean a fight in which you are concerned about being beaten up but their is no serious threat of you being killed (sometimes that line can be super thin and you need to be able to read the situation and adjust accordingly, as i said, i am making generalizations). Obviously, avoiding the situation is best, you never know whats going on in someones head, they may be willing and able to kill you. Assuming it cant be avoided. #1, you have 2 commit fully. Remove all doubt from your mind, swallow your fear, it really isnt that bad, you feal almost no pain in a street fight because your adrenaline is pumping. #2 Attack first, as soon as your brain tells you that a fight is going to happen, attack, and do not stop fighting until the opponent is out of the fight, wether it be knocked out or they said theyve had enough and are no longer a threat. Do not hesitate to hit first or to hit back, we often allow fear to take over and try to talk ourselves out of it, if the fight is going to happen either way, then win or lose why not give it your all and make your opponent remember you. Do not just hit them once and stand their waiting for them to drop, i cant tell you how many times ive seen people do this and then get pummeled, a knock out is great but dont count on it, that first punch needs to be followed with a 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th, maybe an elbow, whatevee the situation calls for. Do not stand their infront of your opponent trading punches, move, use head movement, get on your opponents dead side (google dead side to see) as soon as you can, this can often be done when they make a mistake like a bad punch, once you are on their deadside you have access to all of your tools and attacks and they cannot attack or defend, they are wide open. Be controlled but very agressive, let out a war cry, be 100% confident even if you doubt yourself, spit in their eyes, be controlled but appear like an insane savage, once you syke them out and put some fear in them, the fight is usually yours. Do not try to win through pain, as i said, pain isnt really felt in a fight for the most part. Think of a person like a robot, they need 3 things to function, computer (brain), air, and blood to the brain. To remove your oponent from the fight, turn 1 of these 3 things off. The brain can be temorarily shut off through concusion, this can be done by the opponents head being moved, snapped, or jarred very quickly, when this happens the head moves faster than the brain and when the brain catches up it hits the skull causing a concusion/knock out, speed is the key here, speed is power for the most part, watch how easy connor mcgregor knocks guys out, it isnt done with a haymaker, its done with a quick jab or cross and proper mechanics, study great fighters and knock out artists. Blood and air can be turned off by a choke. A good stiff jab to the nose can really ruin their day as well, i dont know if youve ever been hit in the nose but your eyes instantly water badly to the point that you cannot see and this is usually acompanied with diziness. Do not stop fighting no matter what, even if they are winning, you can easily turn it around, and if you dont they may just realize that your tough as nails and wont stop at which point they may give up. KNIFE FIGHTING- Run if you can, even the best trained and toughest guys will run from a knife fight if they can, a knife is a nasty tool and your life is much more important than your pride. It isnt like the movies, you will be cut, and winning is making it out alive. Assuming you have a knife, defanging the snake is a good technique (you can find stuff about it online), essentially you wait for the attacker to swing the knife at which point you cut his hand or wrist, and you do this until you get or create an opening to attack or they drop the knife. You essentially want to avoid their attacks and respond as soon as possible (obviously), 1 technique is defanging the snake while simultaniosuly stepping offline to their deadside and then attacking, easier said than done. I dont want to say to much technical stuff because knife fighting is a very serious and deadly thing, i dont want you to take what i say and think your ready for a knife fight, go train and learn everything you can. You never know how a situation like this will go, it may be some dancing around and swinging knives at eachother or they may just pop out and sewing machine your chest with a knife. 1 important piece of advice is if you get cut or stabbed which you likely will, do not stop, you are not dead yet and may not die but if you stop fighting you will be dead because they will keep stabbing. It terms of hand position, it is different than a fist fight, instead of your inner wrist facing them, the inner arm should be facing you to protect veins, arteries, and sinew. Hands always up of course, do not stand toe to toe, squared off, the outer tip of your shoulder (outside bycep should be towards them so your are standing side ways and not straight towards them, that way the knife in your dominant hand can reach them without them reaching your important bits. If you do not have a knife, you want to take a fighting stance with your inner wrists facing you, when they swing and miss you would want to shoot in and trap their knife hand against their body and unleash insanity on them until they are softened up and you can take the knife, do not try to take the knife beforw softening them up. This is just some very general stuff, i am not trying to teach you how to win or survive a knife fight via the youtube comments section, if you are interested in these things, go learn and train and test what you learn against a resisting opponent. I assume that you just read my comment and seen that i had experienced some of these things and wanted to talk a bit about it and maybe get some insight, as we all do and thats why i responded, just sharing some things that ive picked up through my experiences, not trying to teach you anything. Yes, it is possible to defend against a knife, as i said. You will almost certainly be cut but it is very possible. Although, If a knife is involved i would not engage unless your life or someone elses life is at risk because in a fight with a knife, your life is 100% on the line and you can easily lose it before you even realize it. In my knife fight, i was seriously injured as was my opponent. If you listen to anything that i just wrote, please go get involved in martial arts and self defense, it is immensley rewarding and may very well save your life one day. I often hear people say, why do you need to know how to do this or that, why do you need to know how to defend against a knife attack, do you think you will actually be attacked with a knife? Well you never know, chances are that you may not be, but it can and does happen and when it happens and your in the most important and dangerous 1 minute moment of your life, you want to be able to live on and be happy that you prepared for it instead of bleeding out wishing that you would have. A good example is an awful event that took place in boston i believe, a crazy guy on a train was harrassing 2 girls, 3 guys stepped in and defended them, the crazy guy just exploded out of nowhere with a knife and stabbed all 3 guys, i think he cut all 3 of their throats, only 1 guy lived, 1 who didnt was an army veteran, they were just on their way to work that day living their life, they had no idea that they were going to fight for and lose their lives that day, we never know if or when it will come which is why it is so important to prepare for it. If your state allows, i would certainly suggest responsible and legal conceal carry of a firearm, everyone should carry in my opinion, better to have it and not need it than need it an not have it. I hope that ive answered your questions well, sorry for the second book lol. And please understand that my reply is just some generalizations, your situation may vary greatly, you have to learn and judge for yourself was is useful and what you should do in any given situation and for all you know, im just some wierd guy who has never fought in his life and is telking you complete BS, thats not the case but you never know and thats why you have to learn for yourself. Have a good night, sorry it took me so long to respond.

This video was a great way of demonstrating a basic truth about Krav Maga, or really any other "self defence" martial art. I train in Krav Maga in a school that does not tolerate nonsense. The techniques shown above for knife-fighting are ones that we train against - straight stabs to the throat and body, and heavy stick defences moving to the live side. The defences that are parodied here are ones that, unfortunately, are taught in real KM schools - and they are very, very sloppy. If these defences are taught as shown in those posters, they do not respect the reality of knife-fighting. A knife is a short, sharp-edged weapon; the absolute *LAST* thing that anyone should want to do in defending against such a weapon is to try to get in close to that weapon and leave the wrist and elbow free to move to slash or stab or extract the weapon. The same goes for the stick defence moving to the live side. This is a real technique involving a burst forward followed by a spin that delivers a hard elbow to the face. When done correctly, it can work even against a resisting opponent. When taught badly and sloppily, it is downright DANGEROUS. The core lesson to be learned here is that, if a trainer is sloppy in teaching material, and a student learns it and believes that he then knows how to fight, it is not really his fault. It is his *trainer's* fault - for teaching bad techniques that lead to people going out there with a false sense of confidence, and then getting hurt or even killed in the process.

Thanks for that comment! I’ve heard from so many people telling me essentially “no Krav Maga school would ever teach anything like that! Every instructor operating under the name of Krav Maga is 100% legitimate and everything they teach always works 100% of the time. How dare you try to sully our fine reputation!” Except that this poster came from an actual Krav Maga school that really does teach those things to real life humans. I can’t decide what’s more dangerous: teaching/learning bad technique, or being so dogmatic that one cannot recognize room for improvement. A musician left a great comment on this video. He said something like: good musicians would never get mad because other people aren’t any good at playing their instruments- and be like “how dare you say he’s no good at the saxophone! Every saxophone player ever is a virtuoso!” No- They realize some people suck at it and some people don’t.

I am sorry to say that there are indeed Krav Maga schools which teach silly nonsense. There are plenty of gyms and schools that hold what they call "Krav Maga" classes, which actually amount to little more than cardio-kickboxing. The problem is particularly bad on the West Coast, where there are schools that have combined CrossFit with Krav Maga, and there is at least one school somewhere in L.A. that holds classes in Krav Maga - which literally means "contact combat" - with no contact allowed. I'll let that one sink in for a bit. In terms of what is worse - teaching bad technique, or being dogmatic - it's a good point, hard to tell which is worse. Ultimately, it is the trainer who is at fault either way, and if his students get hurt or killed trying to do what he teaches, then he shares a large portion of the blame for what happened. That is why it is so important for real KM practitioners - or students of any real martial art - to be humble and to try to tear their own techniques apart to see if they really work. Martial arts is indeed the ultimate in self-expression, and any true student of it should try to learn as much about fighting as he possibly can.

Usually I love your videos, not this time. Taking some random poster of KM and assuming what the techiniques are going to be and "debunking" it is not an honest thing to do. Really different than what you did with the "woman self defence" type of videos. What do you think of someone like Nick Drossos? He'll do active plastic knife drills with resistance and the stuff he does looks more realistic than the majority of knife defense I see online. Although it's still against plastic knives or markers. So I don't know how realistic or useful it would be. Is it at least a step in the right direction?

Well I practise Krav Maga, it's handy for combination training. It forces people to fight aggressive and in the octagon that's good, it also believes than any technique deficiencies you might have can be covered up with super aggressive behavior. So in general, it's super handy for training and outs you in the right mind set. However you've got to find yourself a good gym, and don't fuck around with a bad gym. Same with mma, some mma gyms are justtt garbage. Some are great. This isn't what they teach, but any weapon defence is ineffective. I went to a few weapon seminars and they almost always tell you to run. This is because the proper techniques aren't 100% reliable at all, and if they work; luck will be more of a factor than practise.

Angelos well your chances of running to a safe place are higher than using s weapons technique. Funnily enough I just trained a knife one on Wednesday, again they stressed running. The issue with the technique is that it can't be 100% effective and if the person is well bigger than you, it probably won't work.

Actually if you're attacking with a knife the most effective way to hold it is the handle in the palm of your hand and the blade either pointing sideways depending if you're left or right handed. This way you can use it in multiple ways to slash, reverse stabbing, upward slash or downward reverse stabbing. Holding it that way also allows you to throw a left or right cross punch with the blade following the path of the punch.

the posters do not show the techniques, only a one shot image without any data on what it represents. So, it's a false argument they are refuting - hence a strawman. You simply cannot extrapolate enough data from an image and there are entirely too many examples on KZbin of KM techniques properly done that you can critique. None of these examples are actual KM techniques. It's an attempt to understand a one frame image and a bad attempt at that.

I analyze still photos of fights all the time, and I recommend anyone serious about the art of film study and combat sports coaching do the same. You can learn a great deal from this process. However, you are correct in suggesting that doing an analysis of posed photographs like these is not in the same ballpark. HOWEVER, it doesn't take a genius to look at these pictures and come up with a simple answer to the question: "How did they arrive in this position?" Also, the last time I did an analysis of a Krav Maga video from youtube, I got a warning from youtube, because the charlatan teaching the garbage I critiqued valued his sensitive feelings of pride more than the personal safety of the public he pretended to teach, so he demanded they take down the video.

+richcapo I find this hilarious and peculiar. You KM and TMAtards have the audacity to challenge anonymous people online to a real fight, but for some reason you can't provide any evidence to prove your claims? I find it suspicious when someone in KM does challenge matches when KM has no form of live fighting competition. I personally have no issues in challenge matches if it involves strong skepticism that needs to be resolved. However, this is the internet. If you have a problem with my belief that KM is bullshido, then why not just show me empirical evidence? Why initiate a challenge match when there could be plenty of footages out there? Do you have some sort of insecurity complex? I care more about debating here, not fighting.

I've seen and have practiced Krav Maga in more than 5 different schools and their comments about analyses like this are always the same: "We never attack/defend like this" ..."we use principle not technique"... "the techniques we use have been tested in battle"...etc. I think that we've heard all of this type of talk before. It seems like this same old tune is being played time and time again. From what I've seen, it all of the 'deadly arts du jour' or martial fads of the decade are reading from the same playbook. In the 50's it was deadly Judo skills, then killer Karateka in the sixties (especially lethal against inanimate watermelons) , Kung-fu supermen of the seventies, Ninja assassins of the 80's and so on. Krav is such a big deal these days and God only knows what's next. As a certifiable (and I do mean certifiable) master of the secret Mongolian no-touch empty force, empty-wallet energy attack, I feel secure in my deadly battle-tested skills and can knock out any KZbin viewer from 10,000 miles away, even WITH resistance.

well yeah krav is often full of bullshit, but so is this video; the techniques aren't even found in krav (if they are, they must be very obscure), and during the stick scene, the blue guy is the only person resisting and the orange guy is just trying to look as clueless as possible to prove his point. Real science/sparring with full resistance on both sides is what weeds out the bullshit from the truth, and that's not what happened in this video. I'd trust dog brothers compilations for realistic stick confrontations over videos that are trying to prove something.

I practice Krav Maga, they teach us to run away and never engage a weapon, or if someone wants something from you during a stick up like your wallet for example, then give it to them! The techniques arent meant to turn you into superman. You are most likely to get hurt, it just in the case where you have no other choice but to engage an attacker, then they teach moves that they believe are the most likely to mitigate the amount of harm to you in comparison to other styles. Also, I've never seen any of those specific moves before. Are you sure it is Krav Maga?

I have trained with three Krav Maga instructors. Every one of them said that if someone threatens you with a knife and all he wants is your wallet, you should just give him the wallet. Every one of them said that you should only fight a knife wielding attacker if you absolutely have to. People who think Krav Maga teaches you to fight a knife wielding attacker as a first resort have never taken a Krav Maga class in their lives and are ignorant to what Krav Maga actually teaches. Concerning live testing, I have personally tested my knife defenses against training partners stabbing me at full speed. I have also had the chance to test my knife defenses against a person with no training (a person with no preconceived idea of how I was going to defend), sort of like what Nick Drossos did in his social experiments. I can testify that Krav Maga knife defenses do work (i.e. they improve my probability of survival).

i learned krav maga and cmbat against knife essentially consists in "get away from the trajectory and if you can run away as fast as you can" no idea who teaches this elaborate moves against a freaking knife. the only moves you learn abou direct combat with a knife, and that's for when you can't put distance or get away is 1) frontal assault: use your legs and try to make distance with a front kick..it's a subpar solution and you will most likely get cut, but even considering that there are some important parts in your leg you don't wanna get sliced, there are still fewer than in your torso.the idea is to put distance and run away anyway. 2) attacks from the side: try to keep an arm as ashield by trying to block the opponent arm before he completes the swing and reaches your torso...again, subpar solution, you are most likely gonna block one or two attacks before the opponent change stances and it's a lottery to put your defence up again in a fruitful way..try to use those few attacks you are not getting stab on to attack the opponnent enough to give you some leeway and get away.prepare to be sliced a lot anyway. essentially there's no magic trick against a knife..it's what's called an equalizer, something that makes you dangerous no matter how prepared you are or how prepared is your opponent..the first idea must always be to run..all the other tecniques are last hope attempts at getting away with your life. and even running away isn't adefinitive solution since if the aggressor is faster than you, you are essentially done since you can't defend from an attack to the back while you run away and even considering how absurd this "version" of krav maga is..the title is a little clickbaity..if you are in that position, you are at risk of dying anyway..in that case anything you might try isn't gonna make you more dead than doing nothing..but sure,if it's implied "stand brave in front of a knife instead of running away because now you know krav maga", then yes, it's at least contributing to make you dead meat.

Ramsey Dewey - I must have missed the reality part. When did the realistic attacks begin? Or the honest effort to actually defend against them? How much time and effort was put into training and understanding the principles of the technique that are meant to fluidly link together like chainmail instead of treating (or at least presenting) the progression of movement as if it were ever meant to be a single, ridged piece of stiff armour of exact measurements with little to no room in the design for natural variables that could allow multiple variations to naturally present themselves through and individuals personal expression of principles? You know, like a jab or roundhouse, or RNC. Or as part of a system of lager and smaller overlapping principles capable of being presented in different forms with the same desired outcome, rather than an exact copy of a predictable style pattern with strictly limited uses.

I love the Asian stabby dude! But as a Krav instructor with KMG, I have to say that those are not techniques from Krav Maga. We teach creating distance when faced with a knife - run and run like a maniac if you can - comply, your money is not worth your life - if you can’t run and he doesn’t care if you comply, create distance with kicks, using objects as shields, to hinder him while you run away, or as a weapon - if you have no choice, deflect the knife with a good counterattack and run away (you will likely get cut or stabbed in this scenario) - In the very worst case scenario (eg. You’re in an elevator with nowhere to run) deflecting and controlling the weapon (there’s a VERY good chance you will get cut or stabbed, but better stabbed 2-3 times than 80 times by stabby Asian dude) There are a lot of mc dojos out there claiming to teach Krav Maga, (like the guys at commando Krav Maga) but it’s important to decide for yourself whether what they’re teaching works, and makes sense I recommend KMG, and even though there is rivalry between our organisations, IKMF (at least I know they know their shit)

So you take one technique out of context (well, more like a pose from a poster) and that somehow proves a point? Imagine if I told one guy he can only use a rear naked choke, and his opponent can do anything. If the choke guy gets knocked out after taking dozens of punches and kicks while trying to close the distance to use his one allowed technique, does that prove that a rear naked choke doesn't work under pressure?

I hate how so many "self defense techniques" there are out there for things like knives and guns, especially by what people call "Krav Maga" which more often times than not is NOT actually Krav Maga and is mostly testosterone fueled, aggressive nonsense that looks mean and has no actual practicality in-use whatsoever. Fighting is fighting, fists and feet are dangerous but a fight is still a fight, but the second someone adds a deadly weapon into the mix like a KNIFE, that is no longer a fight, that is COMBAT, and fighting and combat are veeerryyy different things. In fighting someone breaks a bone, maybe loses an eye or receives a serious head injury... in combat someone lives and someone dies, and that is an entirely different scenario and mentality to be in and, god willing, you should hopefully NEVER find yourself in. Krav Maga did START as a combat form, it was taught (and still is taught) in the Israeli military, originally developed to help targeted Jews fight Nazi oppressors, but since then there have been 40 million "schools" of Krav Maga that teach you the art of "self defense". There is no such thing in Krav Maga. Krav Maga is not self defense, Krav Maga is murder, that's what it was designed for, and that is NOT something the average person of today should be worried about let alone train for. If a guy has a knife, give him what he wants... and if he wants your life, run... if you can't run, you're going to get stabbed... a lot, but hopefully you can manage to stab him more before you bleed out.

Here's the thing about weapon defenses for me: yeah you should run away or bring a gun or whatever BUT what if you are put in a corner or kidnapped and locked in a room or your family is being threatened or something, then parkour is not really an option. So what are the best techniques and the best way to train them for a worst-case scenario where you have no choice and you're probably gonna die anyways? Idk dewey probably doesn't care that much overall cause he is training fighters and not assassins or anything, but if he does care then it would be cool to see the "dewey system" of weapons defenses, counters, etc. Or at least some realistic attention to that area

Yeah. Getting close to try to disarm with the long club wasn't horrible, but you'd better grab the arm or do some damage to a vulnerable spot, or else more swings and you're dead. But he might still be able to swing at you before you close the distance, and then you've got at least a bruise if not major damage. Small knives are nearly impossible to disarm someone before you get hurt. Get away as well as you can; if they get close to you they can kill or severely injure you. If you can't get away, play for time, until you can take the other guy by surprise...or give him what he wants. Only way that move works is if you have surprise and then you do a lot of damage first...but you've also got a good chance of dying because you probably can't make him drop the knife and if you can't drop him instantly, he'll use it. I once disarmed a guy who had a knife to my throat, but I got away with it for two reasons: he wasn't trying to kill me, and I took him by complete surprise. I'm also missing a mole on my face I used to have before that.

I love your vids, Ramsey. Good stuff. There are many comments to the effect of "bring a gun". That's good advice, sort of. A gun is a very effective defensive tool, but a person is seriously short changing themselves if that is their only tool. Just like a carpenter has more in his tool box than just a hammer, we need more in our defensive tool boxes than just a firearm. And also more than just empty handed fighting skills. On top of having our tools, like firearms, fighting skills, a knife, pepper spray, or run-fu, we need to work on our ability, under pressure, to select the correct tool for the task at hand.

Well, running from a knife attack is actually a very safe option. First, it's very difficult to stab a running person in the back, and stabbing causes most deaths in knife attacks. Second, the broad of your back has one vulnerable spot, the spinal cord, which would take some precision to damage severely. On the other hand, if an attacker attacks you from the front, there're only a few spots not lethal. Hollywood and some game still continues the 'Back- Attack' troupe but if you are determined to run away it is very difficult to kill you by stabbing at your back. I don't have the sources, but that's the official position of many police forces at places where knife crime is high.

The first day of Krav Maga I learned this. Against a gun, you stand a very very slim chance if you fight back Against a knife, you run like the wind !

Well, they stole your money then, because a gun is going to put you down quicker than a knife will. Very few mass stabbings in this country, despite knives of all sorts being legal for anyone to purchase.

I gotta' ask, are those really techniques from a recognised Krav Maga syllabus/ instructor? My understanding of KV (I have no direct experience) is that it is short, sharp, aggressive but above all, PRACTICAL? Is it just the case of idiots who have no right to teach 'cashing in' or is it truly that bad? I would to hear from a recognised KV instructor.

Love the "non-rehearsed" videos where some dude gets shown knife defense by some supposed Navy S.E.A.L. and the attacker is simply never interested in really killing the "defense expert" and they constantly freeze to show the individual movements. What the hell isn't "rehearsed" about that? The only really sensible knife defense I ever learnt in K.E.A.T. was try to find a long or bulky item to get and keep between yourself and the knife attacker, a bag, an umbrella, anything, try to get away from the attacker or call for help, if you have no weapons and want to attack, try to gang up on the attacker and attack from behind.

I get what you are saying and this is totally right, I've been doing traditional jujitsu for 6+ years and we have moves similar to this...but we're taught these are only to be used in situations where you are..'backed into a corner' so to speak..and have no other option to get away. great video though, loved the knife man haha.

Not that they would actually work but when you do "live" technique the person being stabbed automatically stops fighting, I'm sure an actual hard elbow to the face may stun the knife stabber obviously you cant do a completely live scenario but I'm sure with adrenaline in a real situation you have a slight chance with the technique

The first ones are legit but the last one isn't really convincing because you wouldn't use a heavy baseballbat like a light club, you would swing it with big momentum otherwise it wouldn't only not hurt it just would accelerate properly. You have to this one with somerhing soft but heavy to move it realistically.

There is no sure defence against a knife apart from running away. There are a couple of crappy defences which you can try if you're really stuck, and you probably will be, multiple times.
