This Armor Tool Mini Pocket Hole Jig was sent to me by the good folks over at Timbecon (‪@timbeconaus‬) with the full knowledge I am a Kreg Australia brand ambassador. I repaid them by making a very silly video... ( • Kreg Guy is Sent the A... ) So now it is time to actually review the jig properly 😊 I put the portable Armor Tool pocket hole jig through its paces by building a table saw cart last week, now here are my thoughts on how it performed and a comparison to the Kreg jigs I usually use.

I also purchased one and am a bit disappointed in it. The case arrived broken and the collar set screw was AWOL. Luckily I had spares from another project. I will continue to use my large unit and hopefully figure out how to make this one work better.

I think I've picked it up only once or twice since this video. With a dedicated larger unit on hand, this only comes in handy in a few situations. However, it can certainly get you out of a pickle!

Hi James ... Wow! Love your fair dinkum honest review - especially how you are sponsored by Kreg - product brand ambassador. I have watched both of your videos! loved it - because of that I am subscribing to your channel! I am new to wood working - find this really helpful - personally I am leading towards to Armor tool being based in Perth, WA - local timbercon store really close to my place and the Armor tool pocket hole jig mini is more idiot / newbie proof. Side note material of Kreg and Armor Tool - Kreg both claim to use glass filled nylon plastic, in my opinion Kreg products the nylon used seem thin. However - once again love your video!

The full sized Armor jig is a good bit of kit and was the first to offer auto-adjust. If you've got a Timbecon nearby you wont regret it. I've used Kreg gear since early on, and always loved it. I've got videos on most of their stuff that I own. A couple of years ago Carbatec who import Kreg to Oz (under Kreg Australia) asked me to be a brand ambassador as my shop was half filled with blue tools anyway :P In 5 years I've never had a piece of blue Kreg plastic crack or break, so whatever they put in it seems to work ;) Cheers mate! Hope to see you around the comment sections 😄

Great review James, a pocket hole jig would have made so many of my previous jobs easier, I should design a job that specifically needs pocket holes and just bite the bullet and buy one. :)

You can probably find old K4 and K5 jigs going cheap second hand, otherwise this is a cheap starting off point!

These portable jigs really can come in handy in a pinch. I won't need it often, but when you do you'll be thankful it is there ;)

Worth it just for the auto measuring bit. Can you use the same drill bit in the 10mm Kreg and use the Armor to set the collar when fixing different timber sizes on one job?
@FixitFingers
@FixitFingers Жыл бұрын
Yep it's the same drill bit as far as I am aware. That's actaully not a bad idea! Though the new Kreg drill bit has markings on it so as long as you know the timber thickness already setting the collar only takes a second. Another thing I just thought of is the screw length indicator assumes you are attaching two equal thickness boards... you could run into trouble if the piece you are screwing into is thinner or thicker than the piece with the holes in it.

Great review James & for $79 it’s a quick set up tool for the drill bits you’ll use on the 720 mate. I reviewed the Armor Tool large jig & it’s pretty good but has some features I didn’t like either 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🍺🍺🍺👍👍👍

The auto-setup is cute but honestly with the new bits having the material thickness on the side of them, it's already very easy to set up the collar. The position can be out a mm or two without worry. This is a cheap and great way for folks to start their Pocket-holey journies though!

Oh thank the wood gods you won't have to go through a laser removal procedure of the Kreg tattoo from your tookus. Your bikini line is safe, until your next Brazilian waxing. 😂😂😂 Fair and honest review. Cheers. 👋🇨🇦

Same here, but if I was to get a tattoo it would be on the bottom of my foot, and it would read, "If found, please drop in mailbox, postage guaranteed".

G'day Glenn, The jig can accomodate stock up to 38mm (1.5") thick, same as the 720.
