Has anyone thought about how Dantooine and Korriban are the only planets we get to go to in both Kotor games and that the two are kinda mirror images of each other? In Kotor, we see both worlds sprawling with people. Jedi, Sith, and civilians. Then Malak destroyed Dantooine and Revan ended up purging Korriban. Skip to Kotor 2, 5 years later and both worlds are in ruins. People have become scavengers. Jedi and Sith have become so much less than what they were. I think its one of the many awesome parallels in the games that you don’t notice right away.

@parkerdixon-word62952 жыл бұрын
The two always felt like parallels in KotOR 1- half the sith you redeem flee to dantoine, and I think if you kill Juhani, her girlfriend turns to the dark side and goes to Korriban. That, combined with them each providing you with their own order's code, and through it their philosophy, and they make compelling mirror images of eachother. But I don't think that mirror hold up in KotOR 2- the two worlds have followed different trajectories and not really ones that have much relation. Korriban is all but abandoned, and Dantooine has a whole, actual plotline going on about its settlers and place in the galaxy.

As a Sith you must be ready to kill those you care for when they cease to be any kind of asset to you on your quest for power and self-actualization. Furthermore, the "New Sith" based their entire identity as "Sith" on being the opposing force to the Jedi. Their identity was entirely about being anti-Jedi rather than being pro-Sith. For another thing, their laws about preventing internal strife were wholly uncharacteristic of both the Sith and the Dark Side. The Sith are a Darwinian order, if your rival can kill you, you deserve to perish, according to true Sith philosophy. Refusing to embrace this made the New Sith individually weak, which meant in order to succeed in their war against the Jedi, they had to rely more and more on strength in numbers and unity, both of which are Jedi traits, antithetical to the Sith.

Each game, comic and novel was once infused with the history of the old Legends, containing powerful characters with meaningful stories. However, it wasn’t long before it’s success attracted the greedy eyes of the curious, the fools and the weak. And so it’s intellectual property fell, spilling it’s secrets into the hands of those unable to comprehend or preserve them. Here, in the New Canon, you can just barely see the Disney story writers crude efforts to recreate the magic of the ancients. The new owners of the franchise sought to profit quickly by copying elements of the Old Canon. I can only imagine what was ruined forever, due to the carelessness of these amateurs. Now, the New Canon’s success has almost been completely undone by five years of negative feedback, so does SW’s fan community protects it’s secrets.

I do like that Kreia criticizes the redemption of Ajunta Pall. I've had the same issue with the redemption of Anakin/Vader for a long time. I doubt it's a popular opinion, but I agree with her. To fall so far and to do such horrendous things for so long and then be forgiven for them is ridiculous. Vader slaughtered the Jedi, children and all before going on to enforce the Emperor's will across the galaxy for 20 years. Who knows how many innocents died under his command, how many lost their homes and their families and lives because of how far he'd fallen? He did watch as Alderaan was destroyed. Billions of lives were snuffed out instantly. It was clear in that moment that any trace of Anakin was gone. Vader threw his lot in with Palpatine and the Sith and was forever damned. That's how I'd prefer it to be at least. I know there are plenty of religions connotations with Vader's redemption, and that it's a pleasant message that even one as evil as Darth Vader could be redeemed in the end. But I don't like it. Ajunta Pall and Vader both made their choices and became who they were. You can't damn a man for every mistake in his past. Otherwise none of us would be left. But there is a point of no return, and both men reached that point when they took on the title of Sith Lord, like many that became Sith before. To be redeemed after committing so much evil is weak and foolish in my opinion. Some people don't deserve that. It's weak of the ones that are forgiving the man and weak of the man for turning his back on the person he'd become. I prefer the immense tragedy of knowing your soul is damned but continuing on rather than living a life of evil and then apologizing to save yourself at the very end.
@PapitoQinn4 жыл бұрын
There is a difference between redemption and absolution. What you're saying is that you wouldn't absolve Vader due to his actions. But he was redeemed. People can change and he changed back into someone who wouldn't do all those things he did as Vader. But he wasn't absolved, which requires 3rd party acceptance of his transition. We came up with the idea of prison as a means for absolution. Then many countries decided to use it as a means to both redeem and absolve. While other countries maintain a absolution approach, it can lead to both, but many times also only leading to one or the other.

In the end, sure, despite his severe flaws he wasn't completely heartless, but there's no atoning for what he'd done and Luke had nothing to go on besides Obi-Wan's hyperbole and Vader's clear unapologetic shows of villainy-there are no grounds for sympathy, not to mention no previous build-up to what ended up happening. I always take Mical and Mandalore for Korriban. 2 Jedi, 1 Mandalorian, we should be safe. Visas stays to guard the ship. I don't get why the cave is to be explored after you explore the academy. Shouldn't you be running all the way back to the ship for immediate takeoff after fleeing from a Sith lord?
@asheer91146 жыл бұрын
@A Thought Crime: Because Tomb of Freedon Naad (if recall it correctly) is a necessary point in the game which shapes Exile's further journey by confronting him/her with his/her war past... so you could enter the cave as Light Side Jedi but exit as Dark Side one - and reverse if you play Dark Side character.

I wonder about the redemption of Ajunta Pall. Of course there were discussions between redemption and absolution but I am not sure how Ajunta was redeemed. All he did was accepting to be part of the Force. There is nothing much he did to redeem himself except laying him to peace. Although her description of Ajunta’s “redemption” is fitting because he could not handle suffering much longer.

If a movie is ever made for this, i had the idea for helen miren. This is the heart of star wars itself. Here you can truly see the deepness of the fandom of star wars. When the jedi and the sith were tested not just in terms of power and strength but also in resolve and will. Star trek has done the same but people do not see it here because they blind themselves to the failures of greedy agendas in the new movies.

You can read about most of what Kreia talks about in the Tales of the Jedi comics, mainly the parts concerning Naga Sadow. They are a bit dated being from the 90s and written before the prequels so they made some interesting conclusions about what the rules of the Star Wars universe were.

@@khymaaren Tolkien invented many tropes, it is true. But to call him the inventor of fantasy and to extoll his writing as the foundation of the entire genre is simply wrong. Tolkien stole much of what he wrote and changed it only very slightly, or not at all. I love his works, I do, but if you have read any of the old Norse poems and epics, you quickly come to realize that Tolkien plundered them for ideas, relentlessly. What Tolkien wrote was essentially just a modernized take on the several centuries old fantasy stories of the Norsemen.
@khymaaren4 жыл бұрын
@@DraculaCronqvist You confuse myths and folklore (stories that very often have no author) with modern fantasy. If you have said George MacDonald, Lewis Carrol, Edgar Rice Burroughs whose works predate Tolkien, I would have said fair enough. With Tolkien came high fantasy, though, and it propelled the whole genre into the mainstream as the man became an influence for many others to come.

This is a bad take, and reveals that you didn't actually listen to the dialogue (or fully explore the dialogue options) at the end of the game. Kreia plotted her own demise on Malachor. She admits it, if you ask - moreover, if you have sufficient skill in persuasion, Atris will inform you of it earlier than that. The threat of killing the force was necessary to draw the Exile to Malachor, as a final "test." Kreia's trule goal was to end what currently remained of the Jedi and the Sith, so that the Exile might remain and the Exile's teachings not be forgotten. "You are not a Jedi, not truly, and it is for that that I love you."

I think a lot manhua got the idea of a secret master teaching the MC to boost their stats,.. I think a lot was borrowed from this series, book and game. Ultimately, I think all knowledge is borrowed from Truth. Truth fixes and makes everything back to it's original self. I think the truth behind this story, and others, I.e a Master helping the MC, is borrowed from the reality of the Holy Spirit. GodHood guiding man to return to everything he can become.. I had thought God was a dark horse, but I recently learned He is good and won't let us fail, if we'll walk with Him and listen to Him..
