@Mack Donalds That is not the liberal way... that is the communist way, the socialist way, the marxist way. I should know, I am a liberal, but walked away from the DEM party back in 2010 for I feared the party has swayed too far into socialism. It turned out to be worse, as they have gone full blown communistic now. This is not longer about political parties.... this is about preserving our AMERICAN FREEDOM.

@@eckankar7756 uhh. I never used the government. Other people in the apartment complex did. Tell me you're a predator landlord without telling me you are. Lol. His payment hasn't changed. So why should my rent? Ohhhh that's right, his WIFE has a huge spending problem. Not my problem and I will not definitely be the solution. I think it's pretty childish for a landlord to raise it's rent cause they are greedy cows. So I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Wants to raise my rent, I'll show him rise in costs. Ohhhh and considering he's refused to fix his tenants repairs. like air conditioning or when he evicted a man cause he was too crazy. The guy literally was skitso. So he's in court eating that cost cause the state and the man are suing the landlord for going against the American disability act. But I'm the childish one. @@andrewshepherd5249 I'm a woman so I don't have a prostate. You sound unnaturally stimulated and focused on your own, though. You are severely acting out from being powerless in your life. An adult man paying rent throwing a tantrum by turning the water on. How pathetic. that's what a child would do. A man would take control of the situation, keep talking to the landlord for repairs or move on. A real man would buy a house. You are weak and powerless in your living situation so you turn the water and lights on for revenge like a 5 year old. "I'll show them." Simply childish. I own my home and my mother lives in the guest house for free, that's my 'tenant.' As an adult I got an education, a good job, bought a house and can provide for my family. I never got to this place in life by running water to teach someone a lesson. Turn your rent hike frustration into motivation to become more, earn more and do more for yourself.

@@geno1825 if you cap rent increases it's likely to negatively impact supply and continue to drive up prices. One of the points in the video is that landlords are dumping properties so supply is low. Seems like a lot of the time when they try to legislate a market it has the opposite effect.

The landlords own Washington state. A few years back they passed a law that says landlords don’t have to return your deposits for 3 weeks. I took a job in another state and asked to be released from my lease 30 days early. It was denied and I paid rent through the end of the lease but physically moved out 2 weeks early and surrendered my keys. What I didn’t know was the clock for the 3 weeks starts when you surrender your keys. Not in my case at the end of the lease. I got all my deposits back 3 weeks after the end of the lease. Washington state favors landlords! Not a big surprise considering how corrupt Washington state is.

In short, rents go up when expenses go up. Taxes increases as well as insurance premiums. As the voters ask for more from their government governments turn to property owners. These costs are passed on to the tenant. Insurance premiums have about doubled in the past few years in my area. These costs are also passed on to the tenant. Most landlords own only a couple houses in order to supplement their income. I do not know any landlord who wants to raise the rent on a good tenant. Pure greed. They want to punish the paying renters to make up for the non-paying renters. That makes perfect sense. If they get crazy with the rent then leave. The property will sit for a while and they loose cash each day. Now that the eviction moratorium is over there should be more places to rent soon.

I work for a hospital, with all the Medicaid patients we care for we are hurting financially. State Medicaid pays about 10% of the bill so every hospital loses money on every Medicaid patient. Our hospital, and we need help so much, is now hiring part time nurses so they don't have to pay benefits. We have the work to do, we have sick patients, but the patients aren't paying the bills.

Greed to want to recover 18 mos of no income from people living in YOUR HOUSE for free? While the landlords pay mortgages and taxes? While you’re at it, let a few families move in with you and pay for NOTHING and see how you like it. You have so much disdain for the person providing a roof over your head. You must be one of the takers who get ‘benefits’. Who do you think pays for those benefits? Hardworking people which include landlords who probably worked extra hard to be able to buy a rental property. You wouldn’t know anything about that though would you?

Taxes, maintenance, property manager fees and utilities keep on going, they don't stop with the rent. The "loss of rent argument" is disingenuous. Landlords can get federal assistance funds. In most states the tenant still has to repay lost rent. Many tenants received additional money on top of unemployment to pay rent so if these landlords weren't on top of that it's their fault. Also, anyone paying $10,000 to evict a tenant needs to get their head examined. It's a couple pieces of paper and $100 to have a Sheriff change the lock. I'm a landlord so I know. Either this guy hasn't been paying attention or trying to BS for an increase in rent. Either way, the market always determines the going rate. I'll wait to see how the double rent goes - it's not working where I live.
