I have this guy's recording of some fine Scottish songs in my car and I never get tired of it. That's saying something I can tell you. He has a way of accessing the pure emotion lying hidden in the depths of words melody and texture. Full-time fan, signed up an' all.

your voice just KILLS me❗️ i don't know where it comes from (what part of your soul, place on the timeline in our {this} reality) but it has such longing, such pathos i crumble everytime i listen to you (which i do regularly & often), transported to other places & times. all of the above for the way you (so {seemingly} effortlessly) play 🙌 🙌 🙌 to sing and play so i would seriously consider selling... (fill in the blanks that work for you LOL 😉 😉 😉) sorry to not be kool and not just say what i think i.e. sorry if i've spoken ('out of turn'/ "sir i was born here") too honestly &/ or sincerely looking forward to dundee may 2016, for me (getting tickets to see you all) that's a major win 😬 😬 😬 best regards to you & lau

Sounds great! Is this the 2012 d-18? And what strings are you using on it?

Are you using a DADGAD tuning capo'd two with open 5-6 strings?
@KrisDreverGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Almost. It's a standard tuned guitar with an esus capo on fret 2.
@jacoustic46079 жыл бұрын
Lovely... What tuning are you in? Is there some kind of partial capo business going on? Which strings is it covering (seems like E and B strings are open?)
@sigbjrnolsensnnesyn34159 жыл бұрын
jacoustic It looks like partial capo on the A, D, and G strings - if you haven't got a partial capo, DADGAD with capo on 2nd fret creates the same tuning (but then you need somewhat different fingering, of course).
@jacoustic46079 жыл бұрын
Sigbjørn Olsen Sønnesyn Thanks, yeah thought so. Don't have partial capo (yet!) but have found I can play a pretty close version by just putting my regular capo across 5 strings and leaving bottom E open. Tried DADGAD but the fingerings are awkward...
@everlongs874 жыл бұрын
is this standard tuning . i can never tell because everything you play sounds so beautiful

Hi Kris, your arrangement of this song on guitar is one of my favorite pieces to listen to. I would like to learn to play it for myself. I'm going to try to learn by ear, but would you be able to confirm the tuning that you're using for me? Thank you!
@KrisDreverGuitar8 жыл бұрын
It's standard but with a partial capo on that makes it EBEABE.
@drummerboy13907 жыл бұрын
Sorren Maclean explained this tuning to me during the meet and greet after a Roddy Woomble gig. I borrowed a pen and wrote everything he said down. I use it a lot now. Thanks Sorren. This is great. The voice, the guitar. Superb.

I am a Nic Jones fan, and when Nic was redundant for all those years, up popped this young guy from nowhere and was immediately reminded of the guitaring craft work of Nic Jones. I was so pleased to hear Chris and to me Blackwater is as finely a honed folk album as Nics Peguin Eggs and Noahs Ark Trap. I am also delighted to hear Chris's arrangement of the Isle Of France. I am five years to late for this little bit of a mention.....but there you go ! For the curious, here is the Nic Jones arrangement ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZbSgnxqqKijf6M

The isle of France Oh the sky was dark and the night advanced A convict came to the isle of France Around his leg there was a ring and a chain His country was of the shamrock green I’m of the shamrock the convict cried I have been tossed upon the ocean wide For being unruly I do declare I was doomed to transport for seven long years When six of them they were up and gone I was coming home to make up the one The stormy winds they did blow and roar They cast me here on this foreign shore Then the coastguard played a noble part With some brandy he cheered the convicts heart Although the night it is so far advanced You will find a friend in the isle of France A speedy letter went to the queen About the wreck of the shamrock green And his freedom came by a speedy post To the absent convict that they thought was lost God bless the coastguard the convict cried Who saved my life from the ocean wide I’ll raise his health all in a flowing glass Here’s success to the isle of France Cheers KX
