Kris Kristofferson is a singer, songwriter, and actor. He wrote "Me and Bobby McGee", immortalized by Janis Joplin. "Help Me Make It Through the Night" was his signature song in the seventies. He also wrote the songs "For the Good Times" and "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down". I used to listen to his debut album on the weekends sometimes back when I was in college. In the eighties he joined Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash in the country music supergroup, The Highwaymen. He is also known for his roles in the films, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), and A Star Is Born (1976). He also starred in the 1980 Western, Heaven's Gate, which did poorly at theaters while costing four times its budget to make. The failure of that film was a set back to his acting career although the fault lay elsewhere. His acting in that film is superb. The problem was the film was four hours long and the movie studio executives weren't sure what to do with it, so they edited it down to a mess of a movie that audiences rejected. A digitally restored Director's Cut was shown at the Venice Film Festival in 2012. I watched it on television over two nights some years later. It's actually two movies stitched together, part one and part two. Part one is a love story set in Montana in the 1890's. Part two is about a frontier battle between homesteaders and cattlemen in Montana in the 1890's. I guess the idea of breaking the movie into two parts was just too simple for studio executives to fathom back in 1980. Its an interesting movie -- both parts.

It's a beautiful, emotional song that even touches an agnostic like myself. There's a story behind it that is also incredibly impactful; Kris told it when he performed 'Why Me, Lord' on an early episode of 'Country's Family Reunion' that can be found on KZbin, as well.

A heartfelt song, the emotional emptiness that followed a period of hard living. Losing that ego, letting go and seeing things as they are, not in the fairy tale realm they surrounded themselves with. Becoming the toast of the town comes with a tradeoff.

@@soulvilleusa533 I have read the passage and I understand what it is saying prophetically about Jesus. But it doesn't change what other passages also say. It is possible for more than one thing to be true about Jesus at the same time. For example he can be both Savior and Judge. So see John 15: 11-17 and Matthew 9:11 and 11: 16-19. Also read Isaiah 53 to show what he did to be a friend to sinners, and even more than a friend to sinners. And this is ratified by the crucifixion and resurrection narratives of the Gospels, not to mention Paul's comments in places like 1st Corinthians 15: 1-4. If your point is that Jesus didn't come to buddy up and pal around with sinners in their sins and affirm then in their sins, then I totally agree with your point. But appealing to Isaiah 63 and then saying that Jesus is not our friend based on that and not explaining why you were saying so is what I was driving at with my original question. Especially in light of the fact that the song did not say that Jesus is our friend nor did anyone's comments in the comment thread, as far as I could tell.
