Kristin, this may be one of the best tutorials on squats I have ever seen. Very thorough and filled with positive information. You are an incredible athlete, beautiful woman, and great coach! Good luck in achieving your goals while you inspire others.

I'm currently a physical therapy student doing a rotation in women's health and I love that you are mentioning pelvic floor and TA utilization in lifts!! We see so many women with pelvic floor dysfunction after pregnancy and alot of women think that they can't get back to their strength training regiemes without having symptoms, but it is 100% possible!!
@Kris10Pope3 жыл бұрын
yes!! 100%!!! I talk to women pretty much every day in that scary time period of thinking they will never get back to it - but with the right exercises and proper pressure management it is totally doable!

Great instructions on bracing. I have a massive surgery scar to protect while lifting and those instructions are much better than being told to push my belly out.

Tx Kristin I’m a new 65 year old lifter. I’ve got a PT at my local gym but your video is really clear and explains particularly the breathing side which was a concern for me looking forward to the next two videos

Thank you for this video. I work in women's health, with pregnant, birthing, and postpartum women. I'm a new lifter, about three weeks in. This is the best technique description and video I have seen. I have a lot of corrections to do for my form, apparently! Thank you again!

This was an amazing technique video!!! I had no idea the postpartum brace should be different. I've been still doing the big breathe, fill the core and brace against the belt. Definitely going change that! Could you do a specific video on this technique? It's kinda hard to understand exactly how it should work/feel/look. Thank you!

As a survivor of five hernia operations, the last one involving being opened up from sternum to top of pubic bone with a bilateral component separation (separating the fascia between rectus abdominus and transverse abdominus) those bracing tips are especially helpful to me. I haven't really been game to tackle squats since my last op (sticking to deadlift) but I might give them a go now. The hernia is A1 after the last (hopefully final) op.

@@jessicaowens6552 I was confused and thought it was to push out to belt...... I have a L5 S1 bulge and think not bracing and not being in tune was a contributing factor.....

yes! I think I will try do get one of my pelvic PT friends to do a collab video with me on it.

@@carmelquarney157 If you have had a pregnancy, pushing out against the belt will stretch those tissues that have been previously stretched down the center of the abs (which worsens diastasis recti). Instead, focusing on lifting the pelvic floor and the transverse abdominis will help sinch that area together!

Is this 'in and up' bracing technique recommended for everyone, or only post-partum? I have two kids ages 11 and 10, so is it still relevant to me to brace in and up instead of out? The truth is that what you are describing for both bracing and breathing is much more intuitive to me, holding my breath doesn't seem to make any sense to me, especially on the way up. Controlled gradual exhaling gives me power on the way up. (In karate we always use controlled exhaling to guide our movement and give it slow or fast power).

Or just don't be a jerk because women don't deserve to have sexual comments directed at them uninvited in general... Her worth is that she is a person, and whether she is a mom has nothing to do with the fact she shouldn't be harassed.
