If we try to jump without swinging the arms it will be most effective because we generate the power only by legs. We love you kristin pope.

Best thing I ever did for explosivness was trying trying to be able to touch a 10 foot basketball ring at 5'8". Trying to reach something stretches and uses the whole body as you were saying. Was no where near it at first and thought I would never do it. Started with an 8 and a half high basketball hoop at home and played basketball nearly everyday for a few years at a local school after work and playing in competitions. After a couple of years was reaching 10 foot comfortably. Was jumping about as high as most 6'2" guys were playing basketball. Definitely my feet would be a lot higher of the ground which is how you can really tell how high someone can jump. Would say I could jump higher than 99% of people over 6 foot in general. Also the higher my jump got the faster my sprint got. Actually never played anyone faster than me, I'd say being able to jump as high as people much taller than me also means that I was much faster than them.

Thanks for giving this 70 year old man another weeks worth of exercise motivation. Older people often have trouble with keeping their balance; do you do anything to help with balance during lifts?
@hydra665 жыл бұрын
try working on static holds using a barbell- whilst it doesn't mean you're directly lifting any heavier, it works the stabilisation muscles of your core and helps with balance
@cuckoouncledave5 жыл бұрын
@@hydra66 Thanks for the tip. After almost 55 years away from weightlifting, it's a bit tricky to get it going again - and balance seems the most difficult thing to get back.

You could also play volleyball with your incredible legs explosiveness. If I'm not wrong you said you were a cross fitter in the past and actually these look like crossfitter exercises.
@kennethsteelhammer5 жыл бұрын
Or more likely crossfit is influenced by weightlifting, right?:)
@pile3335 жыл бұрын
@@kennethsteelhammer Yes, probably in some way it's right that. The way of performing the exercises reminds me of crossfit anyway.
@taoist325 жыл бұрын
pile333 The exercises are from Olympic Weightlifting. CrossFit uses them, but makes no claim they invented them. For some reason, people are more aware of CrossFit than they are with Olympic Weightlifting.

You'd be lucky to gain 1% explosiveness it's almost entirely generics, that's why you lift weights and not playing basketball or doing track and field.
@garyroberts30205 жыл бұрын
So what are u saying it's a waste of time...cause I believe ur comments are 1% of nothing...
@TheWatchman18935 жыл бұрын
@@garyroberts3020 explosiveness isn't a trainable muscle is it ? Your either good at the vertical jump or your not, you can't train to jump higher in a meaningful way, you either are, or are not explosive
@garyroberts30205 жыл бұрын
@@TheWatchman1893 I totally disagree obviously some people can jump higher than others but you can still train to get better just like sprinting... so just because I can't beat Usain bolt I shouldn't run sprints and try to get better times. And we have three types of muscles fibers fast slow and ones that can go either way depending on ur training..
@andrew-zr1pf5 жыл бұрын
I went from being slow and barely touching an 8'5" basketball ring at 5'8" to being able to touch a 10 foot basketball ring comfortably after a couple of years of being obsessed with being able to do it and never played against anyone faster than me which also transfered to touch Rugby League where I never played anyone faster than me. At the start I thought the same as you but after a few years that thought changed and think a lot differently and have to disagree with your comment. Actually really surprised me what happens if you get obsessed with doing something.
@walruslatte60805 жыл бұрын
@@TheWatchman1893 You're confusing two things: the vertical jump is used as a diagnostic to identify athletes with a lot of explosive potential. But that doesn't mean that explosivity can't be improved. If this were the case, the NFL would not have their athletes doing any kind of sprints or plyometrics. Why would they if their athletes were already as explosive as they are going to get?
