Modifying a Sony MPF920 E131 Floppy Drive for use in the Commodore Amiga.

Just bought an old Amiga 500, of course the floppy drive is dead. I salvaged an original Mitsumi from an external drive to repair the Amiga. Now the Sony from my spare parts will go into the external case. Thanx for the tutorial

Superb tutorial, massive thanks, FYI there is a slightly different MPF920-E E/131 circa 1997, the exact same chips etc but a slightly different PCB layout, you still use the lower pad on SH1 which is in a slightly different location, and you still go to pin 2 on the 2nd chip, however the JC 30 and 31 pads actually have a physical jumper on the pcb next to the stepper motor and needs no soldering, only manually changing the jumper position, the HD disk mod also works fine and the drive boots disks like a champ. many thanks foir the tut, I was able to adapt it to my 97 drive :-)

If no JC30/31 mod is done, then the drive appears as Amiga DF1? If the mod is done, or no mod & a physical jumper change then the drive is Amiga DF0?

Can two of those drives work together, or would this give a problem with the pin 34 ready signal which is coming directly from the motor driver?

Nice tuturial, i`ll try to get my hands on one of these and make this modification. Everywere i see people always modify the drives for DD 880k but i remember having a drive on my A1200 that did HD 1.76M. is there any drive that`s adaptable for this?

i have found one on ebay. It hace a PLA on it, for 1/2 reduced rotation speed for HD Floppys.

Hello, is this mod suitable for Atari 1040stfm? I have a Sony MPF920-E (E/131, SEP2001) and original Epson SMD-480L is probably faulty, because monitor doesn't show floppy and trash icons (it shows only Desk, File, View, Options menu). Thank you very much

great video, I just botched the head of my floppy.... do you know if i can just swap the head from my a1200 with a sony head?

Nice. How about E/1A1 (2010-2012)? I modded it but Amiga doesn't boot some demos, does boot others but seems to be failing to move the heads to a different track (the drive is silent and booted demo crashes).

I have two MFP920-E/131 drives, one dated MAR2003 and the other FEB2000. Both are totally different from yours!
