This is one of the saddest and yet most realistic and sobering interviews I've heard. 14 years later I'm just seeing this. Sorry for your loss Kris. If I recall correctly, I actually didn't really start listening to Nirvana that much until shortly after Kurt's death sadly. I think my older brother (3 years older than me) had some Nirvana albums before that, but I was only 11 years 6 month and 4 days old when Kurt Cobain died.

People does not talk about Krist much because he decided not to be around in the media like Dave did. But the truth is that Krist was in fact more ''important'' for Nirvana then Dave. I watched a documentary here on KZbin about the last 48 hours of Kurt's life. What struck me is how little good things people had to say about him among the documenters. I did get a sense that Love and Francis were innocent bystanders in Kurt's struggle with heroin. In the documentary Kurt's grandfather seemed ambivalent to his death, but he's probably numb to the constant questioning.

Later, he suffered a gunshot through the mouth, after years of talk about suicide, a professional diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and music that clearly displayed how he felt. He is quoted as saying that most of his songs are about things that piss him off. He told a childhood friend he would "be a rockstar and die in a flame of glory".

It was definitely obvious to _everyone_ that Cobain was the head honcho and linchpin of Nirvana. The group nearly disbanded in '92 when Cobain decided to reorganize Nirvana's songwriting royalties (which to this point had been split equally) so that they reflected the fact that *he* wrote most of the music. Grohl and Novoselic did not initially object to Cobain's request, but when he clarified that the agreement would be retroactive to the release of the blockbuster _Nevermind,_ the disagreements between the two sides came close to scuttling the band. After a week of tension, Cobain ended up receiving a retroactive share of 75% of the royalties, and sore feelings about the arrangement remained within the group afterward.
