Also, their ethics. Who tf says that someone is not "pretty enough" for acting? You could have been less direct AT LEAST
@jockturner15474 жыл бұрын
@@davidkonevky7372 That's simply the horrible nature of visual projects. I don't think the producer really meant she isn't pretty, she isn't, at least in the early 2000s, what you would consider conventionally pretty, as well know that Bell is both a great actor and is very pretty. While I agree there is far far better ways to approach that conversation. Such as saying, "you don't have the look we are wanting". Its not necessarily a personal attack as much as straight answer. When casting a character, unfortunately it doesn't just boil down to how good they act, a huge part of if is how they look. Does the actors look support the narrative? It sounds horrible but I've sat down going through actors who have applied and who we will reach out to audition in person for a role. Say we are casting our main lead, male or female doesn't matter, the legitimate conversations often go as follows: "they're too pretty", "hmm maybe a little too odd looking", "I like their look but they're facial features don't align with the script, perhaps we can audition them and see how they are." "Oh I love their look, we'll audition them." "Nah they just kind of look boring". It sounds terrible, but you need to remember that a film is a visual product and you need to use all the tools at your disposal to both sell the product and also support the narrative. As it's a visual medium then discussions around how their talent looks will have to happen. I was never a huge fan of how some people spoke about some actors, but it's extremely hard to avoid when you are considering casting someone.

"Not pretty enough to play the pretty girl" is a huge difference than just saying 'not pretty enough'. Directors/writers obviously have a vision of something when working on their movie, and if an actress doesn't fit that vision, "not pretty enough for playing the pretty girl" is one way to express it. Not a great way, but one way.
