I get so frustrated with people that criticize others for “thrifting and depriving the truly needy”. Non profits that typically run thrift stores benefit from the sales of the donated goods. They do NOT cater to selling to the needy. The money made from sales, funds programs that benefit the needy. You keep doing what you love and what works for your sweet family. I just LOVE your videos! Thank you for sharing your family with us ❤️
@johnmelissaziech62072 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Thrift stores need everyone to shop at them so they can finance their programs for those in need. Plus you are keeping things in use and out of the landfill.

Yes! I thrift because I enjoy it and when they ask me at the cash register if I want to round up my bill I always say yes and add a few more dollars to it. It's not for "needy people" only, the purpose is to make money of all these donated goods and use it for the good of others. No matter who the buyer of the donations is. Great video Kristen!

I grew up way below the poverty line. My single parent mom thrifted and made over clothing for us 5 girls. She bought good quality items that were adult sizes and would make one dress into two smaller sizes for us. We had very little in our home but it was always well kept. People thought we had more because we had nice clothing. There were even times she made us summer dresses out of thrifted table cloths. So sorry there are some who have to make comments that aren’t nice. Unhappy people try to bring others down. I’m 60 years old and really appreciate your channel. My husband and I understand what it’s like to make choices, not sacrifices, that allow me to be home. I’ve always thrifted for my home and clothing. People think we’re wealthy when we aren’t. For someone to assume there is wealth, that’s a compliment.

@@KristenHoffman Yes, there absolutely is! In my previous married life, we were wealthy, but I was horribly unhappy in that marriage. I found myself indulging in a LOT of retail therapy, it made me happy in the moment, but once all the bags were opened and the items put away, I was still miserable. I ended that marriage and several years later, God brought the most wonderful man in to my life. We aren’t wealthy by any means, but we make good choices (lots of thrifting) with our money and have all that we need and more. Money does not make a person happy.

When my husband & I first married we vowed to pay cash for everything we could and try to have only one car payment at a time. (Of course separate from carrying a mortgage) As we became more financially stable we continued this, if we couldn’t afford it we didn’t get it & to this day, 24 years later, it’s how we live our life. Just because we are way more comfortable now doesn’t mean it’s time to be frivolous with our finances. I love your “intentional living”.

I love your channel because I can see on your face and through your sweetness that you love Jesus and are a wonderful mother. I love when your children come to you when you are filming, love hearing their sweet voice. There was a time when people looked down on you if you bought at what they used to call in the South a second-hand store, but with inflation and the most recent recession you began to see people who did have more money shopping in them as well as "dollar stores" and my husband and I noticed that. We as a young couple struggled to make ends meet as well but have ended up with a beautiful life, raising two great children and owning a home we love and God has always provided. You always look beautiful and well dressed and I think it is great that you know how to do that on a budget instead of going into debt to buy name brand clothes. You are blessed beyond measure and I am so happy for you, as others should be as well. Kindness matters!

I have been a single mom most of their lives - so saving those extra dollars has saved me and taught my kids how to live inexpensively. You’re such a doll. You’re so humble and absolutely gorgeous. I’m 58 this Tuesday and I have 3 grown daughters. No grandchildren yet. I’m a staunch antique furniture lover. My house is 122 years old and modern furniture just doesn’t work in this sweet cottage. I was an interior designer for 31 years. People always think that if you’re an interior designer, you’re wealthy and a snob. I’m not a snob lol. I was originally a police officer and during my career working in a men’s prison, I got injured really bad and so I decided to go back to school and started a second career while I was still an officer. So I am blessed to have two pensions and that’s pretty much my main income, but I took in my 98-year-old neighbor Ruby who was 96 at the time but I’ve been taking care of her for almost 7 years to live with me. She will be 98 on my birthday. God has a funny way of putting strangers together. It’s a side hustle provided to me by God because he said to take care of the widows and the orphans. my house is a lot like yours with the abundance of attic space and basement space. Most of the basement is now a home gym instead of a garage as it’s a walkout basement. And the other half is all full of the original owners canning shelving. I have cabinets and canning shelving everywhere down there. And since I am a prepper I took advantage of this house when I found it and God blessed me with it. I love seeing what you’ve done to your home and your love for Jesus. Anyone who comes into my home knows immediately I love Him as I talk about Him with everyone. Love your change and how sweet you are. I’ve been asked to share my home with people on KZbin but being a peace officer I’m very concerned about privacy.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement today and much love to you and yours! ❤ Oh and I almost forgot to mention, I learned thrifting from my grandmother. She was a very successful realtor all the way up until she retired in her 60's and she only wore thrifted clothing and she looked good! Thrifting should be for anyone who wants to do it. We are supporting our local community and helping these thrift stores to help the truly needy. My favorite thrift store literally takes care of the homeless in my community. Not to mention it's good for the environment to thrift. Ignore the haters. I'm sorry you get those silly comments.

I just recently found you on here. I was so excited to hear you say your husbands family lives in Springfield MO. That’s my hometown!! I moved away to Texas 7 years ago but I miss it especially during the Fall months. 😊

Thanks for your Q and A video. You were so kind and honest in answering the questions. People can be so judgmental that I hope there is no criticism in any way. There is trauma in transparency, but I am sure there are many “kindred spirits” out there. I love thrifting too; it’s the hunt and saving money that makes it fun.🥰

There are so many wonderful people out there! The critical comments just come out as comical compared to all of the support!

I'm so sorry for your loss. In my 38 years of marriage, I have had 4 dogs pass on. The best thing I have found is to get another dog right away. You won't forget the one you lost but a new can help fill the void in your life. My Ginger was my baby. (First dog) It was hard to say goodbye because she had a personally like no other dog. I thank God, he put her in my life. Remember it was just an accident and nobody's fault. Take care and I will pray for your families healing! 🥰

True wealth is in the character and mind. Including how to manage money wisely instead of lavishly spend money. So, Yes, you are not look wealthy, but you have that wealth ❤..

It was so nice getting to know you more! I had to giggle at the first question because not everyone realizes how much church staff gets paid. However, you do have a good eye and have done an incredible job creating a beautiful life for your family! Your journey is an inspiration! ~Stephanie

I am new to your channel. I Have thifted most of my life and I think being wise with your money is so important. My husband has worked at a couple churches doing Tech work. WE did not make tons of money but you know God took care of us and also I cleaned houses on and off for 16 years while raising our kids and also when our kids were grown to bring in some extra money. You can find a lot of good bargins at thrift store and you can wash the clothes and just disinfect other items. There is so much in our world that is made retail wise and we do not need all that but yet it is produced and produced. So our country is wasteful in so many ways. So thrifing is a way of getting things cheaper if you look for your bargins and also not just buying constant new stuff that really does not need to be made all the time. I prefer a variety of fashion and I find it at thrift stores. God bless you and you enjoy your new home and raise your kids and go forward in this journey God has for you both.

As a 21 year old who got married really young I really appreciate your videos. We got married at 18 and then both lost our jobs during Covid. God provided for us and we now own our first home, but thrifting and meal prepping, saving money really got us through. More than that, we actually saved enough to buy a home at 20 years old! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your inspiring content❤️💕

Thanks for sharing~ Do you have a monthly budget for thrifting and of that how much of that do you use to resell and make money. I've noticed that when thrift, try to find an item that I can sell that covers the cost of the entire purchase.

Right?! Because thrifting is part of my business, I try to keep my budget to $100/month.

I will openly admit when I first found your channel and watched a video I assumed ‘oh here’s a beautiful young wealthy woman thrifting because it’s ‘in’ and I am so sorry for that mindset. I am so nonjudgmental and this was an eye opener for me because apparently I do assume things. Thank you for being so open and honest. I’ve enjoyed your channel and love when I hear you talk about being awkward and nerdy because I am too lol You have a gentle calming way about you and it’s relaxing and calming to watch.

Good for you guys to be fruitful! That's definitely the narrow path nowadays. People can't believe we live below the poverty line, I chalk it up to us being frugal too and the way you carry yourself also matters. How funny that you were a graphic designer, that's what my husband does! It was great to get to know you more, just confirms to me that I was right in following your channel and enjoying your content. You're a woman after my own heart. Love from Indiana!

Kristen, wonderful and down to earth. Love you and family....you gave a lot of info. We are all learning a lot. Keep doing what you do and know that you have a group of us followers that are not mothers, but love and do what you do. We adore our homes, family and most of all friends. No need to pay high prices when so many buy and donate almost new and sometimes brand new. See you on the next one

My husband and I have been thrifting for years. We were just talking about a cedar chest in our bedroom. I would love to get it out and put a bench at the end of our bed. We were trying to figure out how long we had the cedar chest. We figured it would have to be about thirty years. And it was an antique when he brought it home. And we haven’t stopped since then. The other place we used to buy from was a pawn shop downtown, where we used to live. I got some nice jewelry and probably half the price. It was great. Now the guy my husband was friends with is probably running the place. We haven’t been back for three years. Maybe some day we’ll just walk in there and see who works there now. Who knows.
